Relapse’s project repository claims support for PS5 system software from 7.00 through 13.60—not 14.00 or later. Sony’s US update page lists 14.00 and 14.10 after 13.60, so owners face a trade-off: keeping compatible firmware may preserve access to the exploit, while some newer games or updates may call for newer software. Relapse can enable homebrew payloads, but a reported Switch-emulator demonstration is an early, separate use case—not a promise that Switch games run broadly or reliably.
Which PS5 firmware does Relapse support?
The Relapse-Exploit repository states: “Supported firmware: 7.00 through 13.60.” That is the project’s own compatibility claim, not an independent certification. Sony’s US system-software page lists 26.05-13.60.00, followed by 26.06-14.00.00 and 26.06-14.10.00. On the versions listed there, 14.00 and 14.10 are beyond Relapse’s stated ceiling.

What does Relapse do?
The project describes a WebKit-based browser stage, followed by a kernel stage that establishes kernel read/write access. An ELF loader can then load payloads. In practical terms, this is an exploit path for running unofficial code—not a built-in Sony feature or a ready-made library of games and applications.

The project README warns that the browser stage can stall and that the kernel exploit may hang or cause a console panic. Compatibility therefore does not mean every attempt will work smoothly. A console owner should also be prepared for troubleshooting and the possibility of instability.
What can a jailbroken PS5 run?
Homebrew and emulators
Ars Technica describes emulators and unofficial modifications to legacy PS4 games as examples of possible uses for a jailbroken PS5. These are examples of homebrew activity, not guarantees that every application works on every supported firmware or with Relapse.

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Relapse’s exploit and loader provide a way to run payloads; they do not, by themselves, make a particular emulator or modification available or compatible. Each application has its own requirements.

Switch emulation is a separate, early demonstration
Tom’s Hardware reported an early-alpha Switch-emulator demonstration on a jailbroken PS5. That report does not establish that Switch emulation is bundled with Relapse, is a stable Relapse feature, or can run Switch games comprehensively. Treat it as an early example of what homebrew developers have attempted, not a dependable reason to expect a particular game to work.

Why can newer games push owners past the 13.60 ceiling?
A game or update may require system software newer than the version supported by an exploit. That creates a direct conflict for someone who wants both the latest game updates and a console kept within Relapse’s stated range.
Tom’s Hardware reported player claims that a Wolverine disc version and its update had different firmware requirements from the digital version and update. Those claims are not proof of one universal requirement for every copy, region, or release. Check the requirement for the specific edition and update you intend to use rather than assuming physical and digital versions match.

- Ultra Customizable Controls
- Mappable Back Buttons
- DualSense Wireless Controller Features Built In
- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
A game’s requirement and Sony’s current firmware listings can change the practical choice: staying on compatible software may preserve exploit access, while updating can be necessary for a particular game or update. There is no single answer that applies to every PS5 owner.
Should you keep compatible firmware or update?
Decide based on the console’s installed version, the specific game and update you want, and how much you value homebrew relative to official software access. Use these checks before changing system software:
Best Value
- Enjoy precise, comfortable control over 10,000+ supported Steam games.
- Easily pair the controller directly to your Windows PC via Bluetooth or play as you charge with the included USB Type-C cable
- Stay paired with up to four different Bluetooth devices, making it easy to enjoy the controller across Windows PC, Mac, PS5 consoles and smartphones. Discover more connection tips and tricks at playstation.com/pair-dualsense
- Access the latest available controller firmware directly from your PC with the free-todownload PlayStation Accessories app
- Play games streamed from your PS5 or PS4 console to your PC via the PS Remote Play App
- Compare the installed version with Relapse’s stated range. A version above 13.60 is outside the repository’s current claim.
- Verify the game requirement for your exact edition and update. Treat unconfirmed player reports as leads, not universal rules.
- Consider exploit reliability. The project documents stalls, hangs, and possible kernel panics.
- Weigh homebrew against newer-game access. Updating may resolve a game’s software requirement but can move the console beyond the stated exploit range.
Because the relevant versions and game requirements differ, neither “never update” nor “always update” is a sound blanket recommendation. Decide with the specific software you intend to use in mind.
