To make your account the “primary” account on a PS5, enable Console Sharing and Offline Play: sign in with your PlayStation account, then go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play and select Enable. Sony uses this name for the PS5 feature; “primary PS5” is informal shorthand.

Select Enable. Sony says the feature is automatically allowed on the first PS5 used to sign in with the account.

Sony allows this setting on one PS5 at a time for an account. If it is enabled on another PS5, disable it there before enabling it on the new one. PlayStation’s PS5 sharing guide has the official steps.
What other users can access
With the setting enabled, other users on that PS5 can play the account holder’s purchased and downloaded games and media, including when the console is offline. They can also use some PlayStation Plus benefits, but not every membership benefit is shared. Access depends on the membership and whether the relevant content or benefit remains eligible. Move sharing to another PS5
If you can use the old console

On the old PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play and select Disable.

Sign in to the account on the replacement PS5, open the same menu, and select Enable.

If the old console is inaccessible
Sign in to Account Management and remotely deactivate all devices. This applies to all devices associated with the account, not just the unavailable PS5, and Sony limits the remote action to once every six months. Use it as a fallback when local deactivation is not possible.
PS5 sharing is different from a primary PS4
On PS5, the setting is called Console Sharing and Offline Play. The PS4 procedure is separate: Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PlayStation 4. Do not use the PS4 menu path to configure a PS5. Sony’s PS4 instructions are in its primary PS4 activation guide. Sony’s activation guidance allows one PS5 and one PS4 to be active on the same account at the same time.

Troubleshoot sharing and locked games
You cannot enable the setting

Check whether Console Sharing and Offline Play is already enabled on another PS5; disable it there first if you can access that console.

Check PlayStation service status, install available system software updates, confirm the network connection, and restart the console.

Shared games or benefits are unavailable

Confirm that the account with sharing enabled purchased the game or media.

For subscription content or benefits, check that the membership is active and the content or benefit is still available and eligible.

A padlock on a game can indicate a license or network issue. To refresh licenses, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. Sony says restoring licenses does not affect data and may help with a padlocked game, missing content, or a game that crashes. It does not resolve access blocked by an expired PlayStation Plus membership. See PlayStation’s license restoration instructions.
