1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteChoose the standard PS5 if you want a disc drive included; choose the Digital Edition if you buy games digitally and want the lower-priced option; choose PS5 Pro if you value its larger built-in SSD and enhanced presentation in games that support it. Sony lists 1 TB of storage for the standard PS5, 825 GB for Digital Edition, and 2 TB for Pro. The right choice depends on your disc library, storage needs, and the current price where you live.

Which model fits how you play?
Choose the standard PS5 for discs and Blu-ray movies
The standard PS5 is the straightforward pick if you already own PS5 or PS4 games on disc, want to buy physical copies, or need Blu-ray playback without purchasing an extra accessory. Its listed 1 TB capacity is also greater than the Digital Edition’s 825 GB, though less than Pro’s 2 TB.

Choose Digital Edition if your library is digital
Digital Edition suits buyers who download games and do not need a disc drive. Its lower U.S. listed price makes it the least expensive entry among these three, but its built-in storage is the smallest. Consider how much of your library you expect to keep installed and compare the model’s total cost if you may later want disc playback.

- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
Choose PS5 Pro for supported-game enhancements and more storage
Pro is aimed at players who want enhanced ray tracing, image clarity, and higher frame rates where a game offers PS5 Pro enhancements. Sony says these benefits vary by game; they are not a guaranteed uplift in every title. Its 2 TB SSD is the largest of the three built-in capacities. These recommendations reflect Sony’s published specifications and positioning, not independent performance testing.
What to know about adding a disc drive
Sony sells a separate drive for PS5 Pro and for Digital Edition consoles in the CFI-2000 and CFI-2100 model groups (slim). Sony says the drive reads 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD discs. Pairing the drive with the console during setup requires internet access. Before relying on this route, verify your console’s model number and Sony’s current disc-drive compatibility and setup instructions, then compare the console-plus-drive total with the disc-capable PS5 price.

Sony’s buying page states that from January 2028, newly released PlayStation games will be available for purchase on PlayStation Store and at retailers in digital format only, while discs for games released before January 2028 can continue to be played on the console. This is Sony’s stated policy on that page; it should not be read as a guarantee about physical retail availability in every region. Sony also notes that design and specifications can change.
Storage: account for capacity and expansion
The listed capacities are the installed SSD sizes, not a promise that all of that space will be free for games and media after setup. The standard PS5 and PS5 Pro manuals list an M.2 SSD expansion connector, providing an optional path if your installed library outgrows the built-in storage. Check Sony’s current capacity, speed, and compatibility requirements before selecting an expansion drive; no specific SSD model is established here.

A practical buying checklist
- List the discs you actually use. Include PS4/PS5 game discs and movie discs; a digital-only purchase cannot play them without a compatible optional drive.
- Estimate your installed library. Compare 825 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB, and decide whether you are willing to manage downloads or investigate compatible M.2 expansion.
- Check the games you care about. For Pro, verify whether each important title supports PS5 Pro enhancements rather than assuming every game gains the same visual or frame-rate benefit.
- Compare the complete local cost. Use current checkout pricing in your country; for a digital console that may need disc playback, include the separately sold drive and confirm compatibility.
