Sony’s PS5 FAQ (dated November 9, 2020) asks “Does PS5 feature a web browser?” and answers: “No, the PS5 system doesn’t include a dedicated web browser app.” If a link fails, work out where it appears. Then rule out the three causes Sony’s guidance covers: connection, outdated system software and a PlayStation service problem.
Why a PS5 link may not open like it does on a phone or PC
Because there is no browser app, you can’t launch a browser, type an address and browse. A link inside a game, a PlayStation screen or a message is handled by whatever feature displays it. Opening it is not the same as running a full browser. The official sources I could draw on don’t document a universal procedure for opening links, and they don’t name a hidden-browser trick as a supported fix. I don’t recommend unofficial workarounds as solutions.

Step 1: Note where the link is and what happens
The right fix depends on the symptom, so record these first:

- What happens when you select it: nothing, a blank page, or an error message with a code or wording.
- Whether other online features, such as downloads, game servers or the PlayStation Store, work at the same time.
If everything online fails, the problem is connectivity. If only one link fails and everything else works, it is more likely specific to that link or the app that supplies it.

Step 2: Check the internet connection
Open the connection setup on the console: Settings > Network > Settings > Set up Internet Connection. This is PlayStation’s official path for configuring a PS5 connection. Treat it as a connectivity check. It won’t necessarily change how links are handled, but a console that isn’t properly online can’t load linked content.
Step 3: Update the system software
Go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. If an update is available, select Update System Software. Sony’s guidance puts this alongside connection setup as a standard step.

Step 4: Check whether PlayStation’s services are down
If the failure looks like a general connection problem, use PlayStation Support’s connection troubleshooting and Repairs resources. Support also provides a way to check service status. That status changes, so check the live page while the problem is happening instead of relying on an old report.

- Replacing the console or a controller.
- Browser workarounds found in forums.
If the first three checks don’t help and only one link fails, contact PlayStation Support or the support channel of the app showing the link. Give them the link’s location and the exact error text.
