What ARMSX3’s CHD support does
ARMSX3 v1.0.6 added support for playing PS3 disc images in CHD format. According to the ARMSX3 v1.0.6 release notes, CHD images work in the library and through the Launch Game and Change Disc workflows, much like ISO images.

The project says images created with chdman’s createdvd and createcd commands are supported. For encrypted images, a .dkey file can be used in the same manner as with an ISO. The release notes establish that ARMSX3 can load supported CHD images; they do not promise a particular reduction in size or performance outcome.

The release notes give two game-specific examples. They are project-published figures, not an independent benchmark or a guarantee for other titles.

The examples vary: Demon’s Souls is about 29% smaller by the stated sizes, while Bleach Soul Resurrection is about 55% smaller using the approximate ISO figure. Actual results depend on the specific game image, so check the resulting CHD file rather than budgeting storage based on a blanket “half the size” claim.
Replacing an ISO in your game library
ARMSX3’s v1.0.6 notes say the library rescans when a known folder changes and hides a game when its file has been removed. That behavior matters if you delete or move an ISO while switching to a CHD copy. Keep the new image in a folder ARMSX3 scans, then let the library rescan or launch the CHD directly using the app’s supported workflow.

Where to store game images
The ARMSX3 setup documentation supports game folders on internal storage, an SD card, or external storage. You must grant the app access to the parent folder, and removable or external storage depends on what your Android device supports. A microSD card is optional storage capacity—not a requirement for CHD support and not a way to compress files.
Keep the source files legitimate
ARMSX3’s game-dumping documentation says to dump games you own. The project does not provide games, keys, or firmware. CHD support changes how a compatible image can be stored and loaded; it does not supply game content.

Which version should you look for?
The project’s releases page lists ARMSX3 v1.0.6.1, dated September 30, 2026, as the follow-up to v1.0.6, which introduced CHD support. Check the ARMSX3 releases page for the current build and its notes. The available release information establishes the feature’s arrival in v1.0.6, but does not provide a universal compatibility or compression guarantee for every game.
