Project Infinity 0.1 is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1. For the least technical route, install it through a managed Minecraft host’s one-click modpack catalogue. For full control, download the matching CurseForge server pack, run it on Java 17 or 21, and give the JVM about 8 GB of memory or more. The exact client and server builds must match; their numbering is not always identical.
Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
The CurseForge listing summary reports 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 as the latest release on September 16, 2026, but that date and build should be checked against the live version list before you install. Project Infinity changes frequently, so make a complete backup before every update.

What Project Infinity 0.1 is
Project Infinity 0.1 is a Forge-based modpack built for Minecraft 1.20.1. “0.1” identifies the pack line; it is not the same thing as the current release number. The listing summary currently identifies a 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 client release, while a server archive has been indexed as Serverfiles_Project_Infinity_0_1_0.0.45.2. That difference is normal for this project, but it makes version matching essential.
A Minecraft client and a dedicated server need compatible mod files, configuration and datapacks. Installing the newest client against an older server can produce missing-mod errors, registry mismatches, crashes during login or a world that behaves differently from the one you intended to run. Always record the exact client build and select the server archive intended for that same build. If the project lists no server archive for the client version you want, wait rather than guessing.

Decide how you will host it
You have two practical choices. A managed host installs the pack in its control panel and runs the machine for you. Self-hosting means you supply the computer, Java installation, memory, network access and update procedure.
| Factor | Managed host | Self-hosted server |
|---|---|---|
| Initial setup | Select Project Infinity in the panel and click the install action offered by the provider. | Download and extract the server pack, install Java, configure the launch command and complete the first boot. |
| Control | Less control over the operating system and Java runtime, but common settings are exposed in the panel. | Full control of files, JVM flags, backups, operating-system settings and automation. |
| Cost | Recurring hosting charge. | No hosting subscription, but you provide hardware, electricity, bandwidth and maintenance. |
| Updates | The provider may offer an update button or managed image; you still need to verify world backups and build compatibility. | You download each new server pack, replace files deliberately and control the rollback process. |
| Java and memory | The host supplies or selects a runtime, although you should confirm it is Java 17 or 21 and that the plan has enough memory. | You install Java 17 or 21 and set heap limits yourself. |
Choose managed hosting if you want the server online without administering Linux or Windows. Choose self-hosting if you need file-level access, custom launch flags, local backups or the ability to diagnose mods directly.

- Minecraft: use the 1.20.1 instance required by Project Infinity.
- Loader: the pack uses Forge, not Fabric or NeoForge.
- Java: install Java 17 or Java 21. Java 8 is not compatible with this pack.
- Memory: plan for at least about 8 GB for a small server, with additional headroom as players and loaded chunks increase.
- Storage: leave room for the server pack, Forge libraries, logs, backups and world growth. Do not place the live world on a nearly full disk.
- Network: self-hosting requires a reachable Minecraft port and a firewall rule that permits the server process. A managed host normally handles the public address and port.
- Backups: prepare a separate backup location before creating the world. A backup on the same disk does not protect you from disk failure.
Install the client
Install the pack with a launcher that supports CurseForge modpacks. Select the Project Infinity 0.1 profile and confirm that the profile shows Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge. Let the launcher finish downloading every mod before starting the game.
- Create or select a dedicated Minecraft profile for Project Infinity rather than adding its mods to an unrelated instance.
- Check the profile’s displayed pack version against the server build you plan to run.
- Start the profile once from the launcher. This creates client-side configuration folders and confirms that Java can load the pack.
- If the launcher reports a missing dependency, do not download a random replacement from another pack. Reinstall the exact profile or obtain the dependency required by the published Project Infinity build.
Clients that connect to your server should use the same Project Infinity build, Minecraft version and Forge version. A vanilla 1.20.1 client is not a substitute for the modpack client.
Self-hosting: complete server setup
1. Obtain the matching server pack
Use the server-files download associated with the Project Infinity release you selected. The archive name may contain a different numeric sequence from the client release; that is why you should use the release’s compatibility information rather than matching only the first digits. Keep the original zip as an archive so you can recreate the installation if an update goes wrong.

2. Install Java 17 or Java 21
Use a 64-bit Java runtime. The recommended range is Java 17 or Java 21; Java 8 will not run this pack. Java 21 is suggested where you can choose it because it can provide better garbage-collection behavior, but Java 17 remains within the recommended range.

java -version
The output should identify version 17 or 21. If the command still reports Java 8, fix the system path or call the full path to the intended Java executable in your start script.
3. Extract the files to a dedicated folder
Extract the server zip into a new folder used only for this world. Avoid placing it inside your client instance; client and server configuration files serve different purposes. Preserve the directory structure from the archive, including the Forge libraries and any supplied start script.
4. Set the JVM heap
Heap size is controlled by the Java launch command, not by server.properties. Use the pack’s supplied start script when one is included. If you need to create a command yourself, the structure is:

java -Xms4G -Xmx10G -jar forge-server.jar nogui
Here, -Xms4G gives the JVM a 4 GB initial heap and -Xmx10G permits up to 10 GB. Replace the jar argument with the Forge server jar supplied in your extracted folder; do not rename a jar unless the accompanying script expects that name. Set the maximum heap to the RAM available after reserving roughly 1–2 GB for the operating system and other services. Giving the JVM every gigabyte can make the host swap or become unresponsive.
5. Complete the first boot
Run the start script or launch command from the server directory. Forge may spend several minutes unpacking libraries and generating configuration. Watch the console for a clear startup-complete message and for the listening port. A first start that remains hung for more than about 20 minutes is usually a memory problem according to the setup guidance: stop it, check that Java is 64-bit, increase the available RAM if possible and review the newest log rather than repeatedly clicking start.
If the distribution creates an EULA file, follow its displayed procedure before starting again. Do not delete generated configuration files unless you are intentionally resetting the installation.
6. Configure the world before anyone joins
Set the seed, world options and any starting-island choice before the world is generated. The starting-island setup cannot be changed after generation, so changing a setting later generally requires a new world rather than a server-property edit. Cheats were advised during world creation for this pack’s setup process; enable them if you need the documented setup actions, then decide whether to leave them enabled for your group.

7. Connect a test client
Use a client running the exact matching Project Infinity build. Connect from the same machine first if possible, then test from another network. Confirm that the player can join, the starting island is correct, blocks and recipes load, and the server remains responsive while new chunks generate. Keep the console visible during this test; a missing mod or registry mismatch is much easier to diagnose at the first connection attempt than after several players report symptoms.
How much RAM does Project Infinity need?
Published host guidance is not a hard technical minimum, and providers quote different thresholds. One provider lists 5,000 MB, another lists 8 GB, while the detailed player table below recommends 8 GB for one or two players. Treat 8 GB as the practical floor for a stable self-hosted installation rather than sizing a new server to the smallest advertised plan.
| Concurrent players | Listed allocation | Planning interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | 8 GB | Baseline allocation; leave additional physical memory for the operating system. |
| 3–5 | 10 GB | Useful when several players explore different chunks or run automation at once. |
| 6–10 | 12 GB | More appropriate for a busy shared world, provided the machine has still more total RAM. |
The same guidance describes “recommended” allocations that are 2–4 GB higher than those figures. That extra capacity helps with chunk generation, modded inventories, entities and temporary startup spikes. It does not make an undersized or slow CPU faster, and it cannot compensate for an incorrect Java version.
Remember the difference between physical RAM and JVM heap. On a computer with 16 GB total memory, an -Xmx12G setting leaves roughly 4 GB for the operating system and background services; on a 12 GB computer, that same setting is unsafe. Monitor actual memory use after players have explored several areas instead of assuming the maximum heap is always consumed.
Performance and troubleshooting
Long or failed first start
- Verify Java with
java -version; Java 8 is not supported. - Confirm that the process is using a 64-bit JVM and the intended Java installation.
- Check that the host or computer can supply at least about 8 GB to the server without exhausting system memory.
- Read the latest log for a mod-loading error. Repeated restarts do not fix a missing dependency or a corrupted download.
Low TPS or stuttering
Ticks-per-second (TPS) below 15 is considered a problem in the setup guidance. First determine whether the issue occurs during world generation, after a particular machine or dimension is loaded, or continuously. Check CPU and memory pressure, then inspect the server log for repeated errors. Do not increase -Xmx blindly: excessive heap can lengthen garbage-collection pauses.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
The pack’s performance guidance suggests using G1 garbage collection flags for modded servers. Apply the flags supplied by your chosen Java distribution or the pack’s own start script, and change one setting at a time so you can identify whether it helped. Keep a copy of the original launch command for rollback.
Client cannot join
- Incompatible mod list: reinstall the client profile and verify the server archive corresponds to the same build.
- Wrong Minecraft or Forge version: confirm both sides show Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge before troubleshooting network settings.
- Connection refused: make sure the server completed startup, the address and port are correct, and the firewall allows the Java process.
- Disconnect during login: compare the server log and client latest log for a registry, datapack or configuration mismatch.
World or starting-island mistake
If the wrong island or seed was used, stop the server, preserve the existing world as a backup, correct the options and generate a new world. The starting-island selection is not a setting that can be safely changed after generation. Never delete the only copy of the original world while testing a replacement.
Managed-host installation
Managed panels generally reduce the process to selecting Project Infinity from the modpack catalogue and clicking the provider’s install action. After the files are deployed:
- Open the panel’s Java or runtime setting and select Java 17 or Java 21 if the panel exposes that choice.
- Check the plan’s memory allocation. A plan advertised at 5,000 MB is below the 8 GB practical floor suggested for this pack; choose a larger plan for a reliable small server.
- Confirm the installed pack build and compare it with the client profile each player will use.
- Set the world seed, options and starting-island selection before the first world generation.
- Start once, wait for the console to report readiness, then create a downloadable backup before inviting players.
One-click installation removes much of the file and Java work, but it does not remove compatibility decisions. Ask the host which Project Infinity build is installed, where backups are stored and how to roll back an update before you make the world permanent.
Updating without destroying the world
Project Infinity receives frequent changes and hotfixes. Treat every update as a migration, not as a routine button press.
- Stop the server cleanly and wait for the process to exit.
- Make a complete copy of the world,
config, mods, scripts and server properties. Include the current server archive or record its exact version. - Read the target release notes and verify that a matching server pack exists for every client build you intend to use.
- Install the new files in a separate staging folder, or retain the old folder so rollback is immediate.
- Start the updated server with no players connected. Watch for migration errors, missing registries and unusually long startup.
- Join with a test client and inspect the starting area, inventories, machines and dimensions before opening the server to the group.
- If anything is wrong, stop the new instance and restore the complete pre-update copy rather than mixing old world files with new configuration.
Never assume that a hotfix is world-neutral. Keep at least one known-good backup from before each update and label it with the client and server build numbers.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteOperational checklist
- Record the exact Project Infinity client and server build in a shared note.
- Use Java 17 or 21 and confirm the active version after every host migration.
- Allocate about 8 GB or more, scaling toward 10–12 GB as the concurrent player count grows.
- Leave 1–2 GB of physical RAM for the operating system when setting
-Xmx. - Set the seed and starting-island options before world generation.
- Keep the first successful world as a dated backup.
- Monitor TPS, memory, CPU and logs during the first exploration session.
- Back up before every modpack, Forge or Java change.
The Bottom Line
For a dependable Project Infinity 0.1 server, use the matching Forge server pack for Minecraft 1.20.1, run Java 17 or 21, allocate at least about 8 GB while leaving system headroom, and back up before every update. Managed hosting is simpler; self-hosting gives you control, provided you handle the Java, memory, world and version details yourself.
