Project Afterfall is scheduled to leave Early Access and launch Version 1.0 on November 3, 2026. As of October 3, 2026, Steam still lists the PC game as Early Access. The developer also warns that existing saves will not carry over to the update.

What kind of game is Project Afterfall?
MuHa Games describes Project Afterfall as a dark, turn-based strategy-survival RPG in the world of Thea, mixing retro-futuristic urban fantasy with Slavic folklore. Steam places it a thousand years after Thea: The Awakening and Thea 2: The Shattering, in a different, urban age. The developer’s game page provides its overview: MuHa Games: Project Afterfall.

Players create a hero, recruit non-player characters, explore wastelands, gather resources and rebuild a colony. The game also features crafting, branching narrative, character progression and card-based tactical combat. Steam lists single-player and online co-op for PC; the available product information does not establish a console version.
What is changing for Version 1.0?
The developer describes Update 9 as the final Early Access update. Its announced changes include a rework of cards and decks, simpler mechanics, additional card effects and a larger card selection. Other Update 9 additions include 41 Steam achievements, Steam Cloud Saves, new graphics settings and improved quest tracking, along with fixes and quality-of-life improvements. These are the changes described in the announcement; they should not be treated as a guarantee that every planned improvement will be present in the launch build.
Separately, the developer says the Version 1.0 Gold build will add a refreshed tutorial, further quality-of-life improvements and final polish. The announcement does not provide a complete feature-by-feature comparison between the current Early Access build and the planned 1.0 release.

No. The developer’s announcement explicitly cautions: “Please Note: Old saves will break!” If you want to finish a run on the previous version, that announcement-era guidance says to right-click the game in Steam, open Properties → Betas, and select the top branch. Steam’s interface and branch availability can change, so check the current game properties before relying on that route.
Should you play before the full release?
The choice depends on whether you want to play the Early Access version now or prefer to wait for the planned 1.0 build, and whether you are comfortable with the announced save incompatibility. If the reworked cards, refreshed tutorial or co-op are important to you, compare the live Steam listing and developer updates near release rather than assuming every announced change is already in the game.
