Its main qualifications are equally important: PIA’s privacy claims are company statements supported by an audit report about its architecture, not a promise of anonymity; performance and streaming access are not independently established here; and the lowest advertised price renews at a higher amount.

What PIA’s privacy claims mean
PIA markets a no-logs policy, but “no logs” should not be read as “the company holds no information about a subscriber.” Its privacy page says it retains the signup email, payment details, and a US ZIP code for tax purposes. It also says some anonymized usage data is collected and users can opt out. PIA distinguishes these account and billing details from VPN traffic and activity data, which it says it does not log. PIA’s download page and its no-logs page describe those claims.

What the audit report supports
A 2024 audit report hosted by PIA and attributed to Deloitte Audit Romania states: “In short, our architecture is designed so that PIA cannot be compelled to provide information on its users’ VPN activity because that information does not exist.” This is the report’s conclusion about the described architecture. It does not guarantee anonymity in every circumstance or cover activity outside the VPN tunnel. The report is available from PIA’s audit-report page.

What a VPN can and cannot protect
A VPN routes eligible device traffic through an encrypted connection to a VPN server, which can reduce what a local network or internet provider can see about that traffic. It does not make a person anonymous to every website, stop all tracking, or protect activity that does not pass through the VPN. PIA describes AES-256 encryption and related security features on its encryption page. Treat those as product descriptions, not proof that every privacy risk disappears.

Which controls and features does PIA offer?
PIA lists WireGuard and OpenVPN protocols, open-source apps, kill-switch controls, and automatic connection behavior. These features are aimed at different practical needs: protocol choice gives users a way to select how the VPN tunnel is established; a kill switch is intended to block traffic if the VPN connection drops; and automation can connect under chosen conditions. MACE and DNS-level blocking
PIA describes MACE as DNS-level blocking for ads, trackers, and malicious domains. It can be a useful extra filter, but DNS blocking is not a full security suite: it cannot ensure every ad or tracker is blocked, detect every malicious file, or prevent all forms of exposure. Network size and server locations
PIA’s download page listed a network spanning 104 countries and 170 locations when retrieved on October 7, 2026. PIA’s server page notes that its location table may omit locations during network updates, and that some locations are virtual. The figures are therefore the company’s published network claims, not a count of independently verified physical server sites. See the download page and the server-location page.
Does PIA support streaming and torrenting?
Torrenting and other P2P traffic
PIA says P2P traffic is supported on all servers, so users are not limited to a special subset of locations for that purpose. That is a statement about service support; it is not a guarantee of any particular speed, availability, or legal status for the content being shared. PIA lists this capability on its features page.

Streaming
PIA advertises streaming-optimized locations, but the available product pages do not establish reliable access to any particular streaming service or show how performance varies by location, account, or time. Do not treat “streaming optimized” as a guarantee that a platform will work whenever you connect. PIA’s server page describes its streaming and location claims at this URL.
Speed claims and what is not established
PIA promotes 10-Gbps servers and WireGuard. Those specifications and marketing claims do not tell a reader what throughput, latency, or connection stability to expect in their home, on their device, or from a particular server. The sources cited here do not include independent speed testing, so no measured performance conclusion is warranted.

How many devices can use one PIA subscription?
PIA says one subscription supports unlimited simultaneous device connections. The company’s support article dated August 21, 2026 also lists monthly, annual, and three-year website subscriptions, plus optional dedicated IP and antivirus add-ons. A router configured to use PIA can extend VPN coverage to devices connected through that router, according to PIA, but compatibility depends on the router and setup; no specific model is established here. Its privacy explanation is more useful when read precisely: PIA says it does not log VPN activity, while acknowledging that it retains some account and billing information and collects opt-out anonymized usage data.
It is a less evidence-backed choice if your decision depends on independently demonstrated speeds, consistent access to a particular streaming platform, or an assurance of complete anonymity. The cited material does not establish those outcomes. If router-wide coverage matters, check that a prospective router supports VPN client configuration and meets PIA’s setup requirements before buying; no exact model or compatibility result is established here.
