Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

PRISM’s Sync Offset setting can adjust a delayed audio device, but the official guidance does not establish that a fixed offset corrects accumulating drift. Check the signal path, network stability, and computer load, then test with representative audio and video for as long as it usually takes the problem to appear.
First identify what kind of sync problem you have
Compare the audio and video near the beginning of the stream with a later section or replay. A mismatch that stays about the same is a fixed offset; one that steadily grows is progressive drift. A sudden change is a third pattern. Note whether the mismatch is audible only in your local monitoring or also appears in the YouTube stream or replay.

- Fixed offset: The audio is consistently early or late. PRISM documents Sync Offset for adjusting an affected audio device.
- Progressive drift: The mismatch increases over time. The reviewed PRISM guidance does not identify a universal cause or say that a static Sync Offset will correct cumulative drift.
- Sudden change: Check whether a device, program, or connection condition changed around that point.
These comparisons are diagnostic steps, not a formal PRISM decision tree. They help distinguish a timing adjustment from a problem that needs investigation elsewhere in the chain.

- In PRISM Live Studio, open Settings > Audio.
- Confirm that the intended audio input, output, and monitoring device are selected.
- Open Advanced Audio Settings and locate Sync Offset for the audio device that is actually delayed.
- Adjust the offset in small increments and test again. PRISM gives milliseconds as the unit, but does not provide a universal correction value. For reference, 1,000 milliseconds equals one second.
PRISM’s FAQ gives general sample-rate guidance of 44.1 kHz for general use and 48 kHz for professional streams. Treat that as configuration guidance, not as a demonstrated fix for progressive drift.

Test the network and isolate external devices
Try a wired connection if the network is unstable
PRISM lists an unstable or poor network connection as one possible contributor to synchronization trouble. Its Windows guide recommends a wired network rather than Wi-Fi for this case. As PRISM puts it: “Case 1: Network connection is unstable or poor. We recommend using a wired network rather than a wireless (Wi-Fi) network.” This is a reasonable test when your computer and router support Ethernet, not a guaranteed cure for every kind of drift.
Check devices in the audio and video chain
PRISM also notes that adding external devices can introduce differences in data-transmission speed. If practical, simplify the setup temporarily: test with built-in devices, then reconnect external audio or video hardware one piece at a time. If the problem appears with a particular audio device, use Sync Offset for that device rather than applying an arbitrary value to the whole setup.

Check computer load and stream warnings
PRISM says synchronization can be affected when a computer does not have enough capacity for processing and transmission, and that PRISM may receive lower program priority when multiple programs are running. Close unnecessary programs as a diagnostic step, then see whether the issue changes. This does not prove that system load caused the drift.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Look for frame-drop or encoder warnings as well. If those symptoms are present, PRISM suggests reducing the number of sources, changing from 60 FPS to 30 FPS, lowering bitrate, or trying a different encoder. These are performance troubleshooting options, not universal audio-sync fixes. PRISM says its default encoder setting is optimized for lower performance requirements and recommends leaving defaults in place unless there is a reason to change them.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
For long, high-resolution broadcasts, PRISM’s FAQ notes that the computer may heat up. If you also observe performance problems, check for signs of overheating and consider whether the machine is under sustained load; the FAQ does not establish heat as the cause of any particular sync problem.
Run a representative test for the full problem window
- Use a test stream or recording with audio and visible movement similar to the planned broadcast. YouTube recommends testing with audio and video motion representative of the actual stream: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Compare synchronization near the beginning and again around the duration when the problem normally appears. This longer comparison is a practical way to detect accumulating drift; YouTube does not prescribe a specific test duration for progressive drift.
- Change one relevant setting at a time, then repeat the comparison. Record whether the change affected a fixed offset, progressive drift, local monitoring, or the YouTube output.
- If the issue remains, note the stream duration, PRISM version, devices, relevant settings, and whether the mismatch was fixed or progressive. Contact PRISM through its in-app Help/Contact Us route or the support email listed in its FAQ.
Common symptoms and what to try
| What you observe | Useful next step |
|---|---|
| Audio is delayed by roughly the same amount throughout | Check the selected devices and adjust Sync Offset for the affected audio device. |
| Audio is aligned initially but falls further out of sync | Do not assume a static offset will solve it. Test the full symptom window and check external devices, network stability, and performance conditions. |
| The mismatch appears only with external hardware connected | Isolate devices where practical, reconnect them one at a time, and adjust the offset of the affected audio device if needed. |
| Sync trouble coincides with frame drops or encoder warnings | Consider PRISM’s performance options, changing one setting at a time and retaining defaults unless a change is needed. |
| Local monitoring sounds aligned but the YouTube replay does not | Compare the YouTube output near the start and at the usual failure point; document the difference and the setup before contacting PRISM. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep an uploaded video or playlist streaming on YouTube continuously, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option rather than a repair for PRISM’s audio-sync behavior: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without leaving a computer, OBS, or your home connection on. Uploaded videos stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
