For the 98th Oscars, the Academy lists a free local ABC broadcast, live streaming on Hulu, and live-TV services including Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV. Prime Video’s announced Emmy role begins with the 2027 ceremony; it is not the home of the 2026 Emmys.
Before subscribing, check the ceremony’s official viewing page and verify that a live-TV service carries the required local station in your ZIP code. A service may offer live access on one plan and only delayed on-demand access on another.

Prime Video vs. live TV streaming: the practical difference
Prime Video is not a general replacement for live-TV streaming when it comes to award shows. Its confirmed upcoming distinction is the Emmys: Amazon and the Television Academy announced a six-year exclusive global home on Prime Video beginning with the 2027 ceremony. The stream is announced as live and free, without a Prime Video subscription, in more than 240 countries and territories. That announcement does not establish that Prime Video carries other award shows, or the 2026 Emmys. Amazon and Television Academy announcement

How to choose the right service for a ceremony
- Find the official viewing page for the exact ceremony and year. Rights can change from one event to the next, and a future rights deal should not be mistaken for current access. The Academy’s Oscars page is specific to the 98th ceremony; the Emmy agreement begins in 2027. Emmy announcement · Oscars viewing information
- Confirm that the option is live, not delayed. Check the precise service tier and event listing. For example, the official 2025 Golden Globes announcement said the ceremony would air live on CBS and Paramount+ for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, while Paramount+ Essential subscribers received next-day on-demand access. Those details are an example of tier differences, not a statement about later Golden Globes rights. 2025 Golden Globes viewing announcement
- Check local station access by ZIP code. A live-TV service’s national channel list does not guarantee it carries your local ABC, CBS, NBC, or FOX station. Use the provider’s local lineup checker and the event organizer’s viewing page. Free over-the-air viewing also depends on local broadcast availability and reception.
- Compare the cost with how often you will use the service. For a single ceremony, a paid monthly subscription may not be worthwhile if a free local broadcast or another eligible stream is available. If you also want the service’s other channels, compare its current price, any offer end date, and cancellation terms before signing up.
- Check recording and replay options if you cannot watch live. Confirm whether the event can be recorded and how long the recording or on-demand replay remains available. Hulu advertises live-TV DVR recordings stored for up to nine months; this is a provider-stated service feature, not a guarantee about every event’s replay availability. Hulu + Live TV
What the current options offer
| Option | What is established | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Prime Video | Exclusive global home for the Emmys for six years starting with the 2027 ceremony; the announced stream is live and free without a Prime Video subscription in more than 240 countries and territories. Amazon and Television Academy announcement | For other awards and for ceremonies before 2027, check the event’s official viewing details. The announcement does not establish a broader award-show catalog. |
| Hulu + Live TV | Hulu advertises more than 100 live channels, including ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC, and lists the Oscars, Emmys, and Grammys among its events. It advertises unlimited DVR storage for up to nine months. Hulu + Live TV | Verify that your local station is included and that the ceremony is available live on your plan. Hulu’s live content plays with ads. |
| YouTube TV | YouTube TV describes access to local and national networks, including ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC. It says local network coverage is available in over 98% of U.S. TV households. YouTube TV | Local network availability depends on ZIP code. Check your lineup and the current price before subscribing. |
| Free local broadcast | For the 98th Oscars, the Academy lists a free local ABC broadcast. Academy: How to Watch the Oscars | Confirm local availability and whether your home can receive the station. An indoor HDTV antenna may be an option where reception is adequate, but no antenna’s suitability can be assumed for a particular home. |
Prices and promotions: check the current offer
Provider prices and promotions can change. On October 7, 2026, Hulu’s page displayed a limited-time offer of $49.99 for one month followed by $99.99 per month, with the offer ending October 26, 2026. This is a dated page display, not a lasting price or guaranteed offer. Hulu offer details
YouTube TV’s page displayed $82.99 per month on October 7, 2026. Treat that as a page price on that date, not a guarantee of the price when you sign up. YouTube TV

Which option is best for different viewers?
- You want the Emmys in 2027: Prime Video is the announced exclusive global home, with a live stream planned to be free without a Prime Video subscription. Check the official event information as the ceremony approaches for any updated access details.
- You want the 98th Oscars: The Academy lists free local ABC viewing, Hulu, Hulu + Live TV, and YouTube TV. Choose based on your local station, the access you already have, and whether you need a live-TV subscription for other viewing.
- You want several network-carried events across the year: Hulu + Live TV or YouTube TV may be more useful than subscribing for one ceremony, provided the relevant local channels are available in your market and the current cost makes sense for your viewing.
- You cannot watch at airtime: Look for confirmed replay or DVR details for that specific event. A provider’s general DVR feature does not by itself guarantee that a ceremony will remain available for a particular period.
- You only need a free local broadcast: Check the organizer’s instructions and local station availability first. For the Oscars, an antenna can help only if the ABC signal is receivable at your location.
