Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIn desktop PowerPoint for Windows, go to File > Options > Advanced, find Maximum number of undos, and enter the number of actions you want available in the undo history. Microsoft says Office’s default maximum is 100 actions; a larger history uses more RAM and may affect performance.
Change the undo limit in desktop PowerPoint
- Open PowerPoint Options: Select File > Options.
- Open Advanced settings: Choose Advanced in the Options window.
- Set the limit: Find Maximum number of undos, enter your preferred number, and confirm the change. Microsoft describes this field as the number of times you can use Undo to reverse presentation changes. Microsoft’s PowerPoint Options (Advanced) documentation
This is the PowerPoint-specific setting to try first. The exact interface can differ between Office releases, so use the options available in your installed desktop version.

What the undo limit means
Microsoft states that Office programs have a default maximum of 100 undo/redo actions. That is the default maximum, not a guarantee that every edit can be reversed: some actions are not undoable. Microsoft gives saving and choosing commands on the File tab as examples. You can press Ctrl+Z or select Undo repeatedly; if an action cannot be undone, Undo may become unavailable. Microsoft’s undo, redo, or repeat guidance
Should you change the setting in the Windows registry?
Microsoft also documents a registry method for changing Office’s undo history. Its instructions use Excel as the example and say the same procedure can be used for Word or PowerPoint. The example key is HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice16.0ExcelOptions, where the instructions create a DWORD named UndoHistory. That is an Excel example—not a PowerPoint-specific registry path—and the article does not provide a PowerPoint key. Use the in-app PowerPoint setting when it is available rather than assuming the Excel path applies unchanged.
#1 Best Overall
Editing the Windows registry requires care: an incorrect change can affect your system or Office configuration. If you use this alternative, follow Microsoft’s instructions and do not substitute an assumed PowerPoint path. Microsoft also warns that a larger undo history consumes more RAM and can affect performance, so avoid increasing the limit without a practical reason.

Microsoft describes undo and redo in Office for the web as basic and says advanced options are available in desktop versions. Its documentation does not establish that PowerPoint for the web offers the same Maximum number of undos control. Use desktop PowerPoint for the documented setting.
