Yes. Upload the PowerPoint file to Google Drive, then open it with Google Slides. You can edit it while keeping it in PowerPoint format, or convert it into a separate Google Slides file. Choose based on whether you need Google-specific Slides features or want to preserve the Office file.
Open a PowerPoint file in Google Slides on a computer
- Open Google Drive and select New → File upload.
- Choose the PPT or PPTX file on your computer and wait for the upload to finish.
- Find the uploaded file in Drive, right-click it, and select Open with → Google Slides.
- If Drive first shows a preview, select Open with Google Slides from the preview.
Google’s switching instructions say edits made by opening the Office file this way are saved to the original Microsoft Office file. The deck therefore remains a PowerPoint file rather than becoming a native Slides file. See Google’s instructions for switching from PowerPoint to Google Slides.

Choose between editing the PowerPoint and converting it

To convert, open the presentation in Slides and use the conversion option offered in the editor. Google’s Workspace Learning Center says that converting a file from another program creates a copy in Docs, Sheets, or Slides format. Google also describes editing Office files and converting them as separate options in its Office-file help.

Check the presentation after opening or converting
Google’s guidance confirms that PowerPoint files can be opened and edited, but does not promise that every element will look or behave identically. Review important slides before presenting or sharing the deck, paying particular attention to complex layouts, branded fonts, charts, embedded media, animations, and transitions. This is a precaution, not a claim that any specific element will fail.
