The PowerA Advantage Wired Controller for Nintendo Switch 2 is a feature-rich wired pad for docked play, with Hall Effect sticks, two mappable rear buttons and headset controls. Its limits are just as important: it works with Switch 2 only while docked and omits HD rumble, motion controls, IR camera functions and amiibo NFC. Independent reviewers also report loose-feeling sticks, so it looks better suited to casual play or as a spare than as a precision-focused main controller.
What the PowerA Advantage offers
PowerA lists the controller under SKU NSGP0526-01, and Nintendo’s product listing corroborates its name and principal features. It connects by cable and includes Hall Effect thumbstick modules, two mappable Advanced Gaming Buttons on the rear, a C Button for GameChat access, rear audio controls and a 3.5 mm stereo audio jack. The detachable USB-C cable is 10 feet long, and the sticks have anti-friction rings. PowerA also lists compatibility with the original Nintendo Switch and Switch OLED.

PowerA displayed a $39.99 price on its product page when accessed; price and availability can change, so check the current listing before buying. The listing describes the cable as 10 feet, but does not establish that the controller can be used wirelessly.
Switch 2 compatibility: docked play only
On Nintendo Switch 2, PowerA specifies that the controller is for use only while the console is docked. That makes it unsuitable for handheld play. PowerA also says it is not for Joy-Con-only games, so check a game’s controller requirements if you are buying it for a particular title.
#1 Best Overall
- Hall Effect Modules: Say goodbye to stick drift with contract-free magnetic sensors in the thumbsticks giving you smoother control, enhanced precision, and increased longevity
- Advanced Gaming Buttons: Get an edge over the competition with mappable Advanced Gaming Buttons you can program on-the-fly, mid-game—no system settings to configure
- C Button: Easily activate fun GameChat features
- On-board Audio Controls: Quickly adjust the volume of your headset, mute your mic and change the EQ mode for a more immersive gaming experience using the audio button on the back of the controller. EQ Modes: Standard, Bass Boost, Immersive.
- Wired Control: No batteries? No problem. The PowerA Advantage Wired Controller for Nintendo Switch 2 system includes a detachable 10 ft. USB-C cable, giving you plenty of space to get to your favorite spot in the room and play for hours
PowerA says the controller does not support HD rumble, motion controls, IR camera functions or amiibo NFC. Those omissions may rule it out if you want motion input, vibration feedback, amiibo scanning or a single controller that covers every Switch 2 game. The official PowerA product page sets out these compatibility restrictions.
Audio, buttons and setup
The 3.5 mm jack lets you connect a wired headset, while the rear controls cover headset volume, microphone mute and three EQ modes: Standard, Bass Boost and Immersive, according to PowerA’s manual. A headset is not listed as included. The C Button provides GameChat access, and the two rear Advanced Gaming Buttons can be mapped for additional inputs.
Rank #2
PowerA’s manual recommends installing the latest Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 system update for optimal compatibility. The product’s offset sticks and rear AGL/AGR buttons are also noted by Nintendo Life. Several navigation and system buttons sit beneath the D-pad and right stick, a layout worth considering if you prefer those controls close to the face buttons.

Feature lists do not settle whether a controller feels right in hand. TechRadar, whose reviewer tested the pad for more than two weeks, found the thumbsticks loose-feeling and reported difficulty with fine control in precision-focused play. The reviewer also found the textured stick tops uncomfortable over longer sessions. TechRadar’s assessment points more toward casual use or a spare-player role than a primary pad for precision play; those are that reviewer’s impressions, not a guarantee of how every player will find it.
Rank #3
- Works with Nintendo Switch 2. C button not available
- Wireless controller with Bluetooth 5.0 technology
- Rechargeable lithium-ion battery: Up to 30 hours per charge
- Two mappable Advanced Gaming Buttons and immersive motion control
- Embedded anti-friction rings for smooth thumbstick control
GamesRadar+ reported that wired responsiveness and button mapping worked during its testing, but likewise described the sticks as loose. It found the D-pad and face buttons heavier than those on the Switch 2 Pro Controller. These subjective comparisons help explain the trade-off: the PowerA adds Hall Effect sticks and onboard audio controls, while reviewers noted feel concerns and PowerA’s specifications confirm that wireless play, rumble and motion controls are absent.
Who should buy it?
- Consider it as a docked spare if you want another wired controller for casual multiplayer and value rear buttons or headset controls.
- Consider it if audio controls matter and you already have a compatible wired headset with a 3.5 mm plug.
- Look elsewhere for handheld use, since PowerA specifies docked-only use with Switch 2.
- Look elsewhere for motion, rumble or amiibo, because those functions are not supported.
- Try the feel before relying on it for precision play if loose sticks or firm buttons would bother you; the cited reviews flag those qualities, but they are reviewer observations.
How it compares with the Switch 2 Pro Controller
The available reviews make the useful comparison a question of use rather than a simple feature-count win. The PowerA is wired and adds Hall Effect sticks, two mappable rear buttons, audio controls and a headset jack. It gives up wireless connection, HD rumble and motion controls, and reviewers describe its sticks or buttons as less satisfying than the Pro Controller in particular ways. Current prices can change; compare live listings before deciding which trade-off is worthwhile.
