Before signing out or resetting local data, protect any work that exists only on your Mac.
Start with the quickest checks
- Check Postman’s service status. A service problem can affect sign-in, loading, or sync across clients. See the Postman Status page.
- Update and restart the desktop app. Install an available Postman update, fully quit the app, then open it again.
- Clear the app cache for loading errors. In Postman, choose Help > Clear Cache and Reload. This is an initial troubleshooting step for connection and data-fetching problems; it is not the same as deleting all local data.
- Test the web app. Sign in to Postman in a browser with the same account. Record whether it works before making account or data changes.

Use web-versus-desktop results to choose the next step

Check the network path when data will not load or sync
Postman says communication with its servers requires secure WebSockets. A Mac can have ordinary internet access while a firewall, proxy, VPN, or network policy still blocks the traffic Postman needs.
- Try a different network, such as a trusted home connection instead of a managed work network.
- If you use VPN or proxy software, check whether it is interfering with Postman; follow your organization’s policy before changing or disconnecting it.
- On a managed network, ask IT to allow secure WebSocket connections for Postman through the firewall.
Postman describes the WebSocket requirement in its guide to “Unable to load data” errors. If both web and desktop fail on the same network, tell your network administrator which clients and error messages are affected.

Handle “session expired” without risking local work
If it is a one-time expiration
Sign in again. Postman Desktop starts sign-in in a browser. If the browser does not open automatically, open it yourself or copy the URL shown in the app. Complete the browser flow within five minutes of starting it in Postman Desktop.
If sign-in keeps expiring or looping
Postman’s troubleshooting guidance recommends revoking active sessions and removing local data for a persistent session loop. Treat the local-data step carefully: use Postman’s linked official removal procedure rather than deleting a guessed macOS folder.

Protect work that is not in the cloud
Postman’s sync behavior depends on account state. When you are signed in and connected, cloud changes sync; when the client detects no connection, it displays an offline warning and does not sync. Signing out removes synced data from local storage, and signing back in restores cloud data. If you use Postman locally without signing in, Postman warns that signing out completely deletes that local data: export it first. See Postman’s sync documentation before signing out or resetting data.
Use the right sign-in route for organization SSO
If your organization uses single sign-on (SSO), use its configured Postman login route rather than assuming a personal-account flow applies. SSO availability is documented for Enterprise plans and Team plans with the Simple Security add-on; the organization’s configuration determines the exact process. Ask your Postman administrator or IT team to confirm the correct route and troubleshoot an organization-managed login. Check device limits and macOS compatibility
Postman’s current sync documentation allows up to three devices signed in to one account simultaneously. If you have reached that limit, review active sessions in your account before trying additional sign-in attempts. The documentation does not state a publication year for this limit, so check the current sync guidance if the account behavior differs.
Postman’s current desktop system requirements list macOS 11 (Big Sur) and later. Confirm the current system requirements if you are troubleshooting an older Mac or a newly released macOS version.

Try the macOS rendering workaround only for display glitches
If Postman opens but renders incorrectly, and its menu is usable, the app’s macOS Postman menu includes a hardware-acceleration setting. Disabling hardware acceleration and restarting may help with rendering problems, but Postman notes it can affect performance or CPU use. This is not a first-line fix for account or sync errors.
Collect logs before contacting support
- In Postman Desktop on macOS, choose View > Developer > View Logs in Finder.
- Capture a screenshot of the exact error, including wording such as “Unable to fetch data” or “session expired.”
- Note whether the web app works, whether you are on a work or personal network, and which steps you have already tried.
- Send the information to Postman Support. If a firewall or proxy may be involved, include that detail so the network path can be investigated.
Postman’s troubleshooting guide identifies logs and screenshots as useful diagnostic evidence.
