Polymarket has started testing Protocol V2 on a limited set of live canary markets. The redesign changes how positions, collateral, trading, routing and market resolution are handled, but it is not a blanket migration of existing positions: Polymarket says current Conditional Tokens Framework (CTF) holdings will not be converted, and app and website users do not need to perform a technical migration.
What is Polymarket Protocol V2?
Protocol V2 is a rebuilt smart-contract architecture for Polymarket prediction markets. The Block reported on October 6, 2026, that a limited set of production canary markets was already running on it. The reported plan was to continue the canary through October 30, with a tentative November 2 switch for newly created markets. That is a target, not confirmation of a completed or final migration date.

The change concerns the infrastructure used by new markets. It does not mean all existing markets or positions move to the new system at once. Polymarket’s official Migrate to Polymarket Protocol V2 guide says existing CTF holdings are not converted.

Positions and collateral
The Block describes V2 as consolidating positions in an ERC-1155 contract and using pUSD collateral. The integration guide distinguishes V2 position IDs from legacy CTF token IDs, and says V2 balances are held in PositionManager. Developers therefore need to identify which protocol version a market uses rather than treating every position as a CTF token.

Polymarket’s help-center explanation of pUSD describes it as a standard Polygon ERC-20 backed one-to-one by USDC, with the backing enforced on-chain. That explanation was published for the April 28, 2026 exchange-stack upgrade, which moved from USDC.e and introduced the initial CTF Exchange V2. It is useful context for the collateral, but that April exchange upgrade is a separate event from the broader Protocol V2 rollout.
Trading, routing and market types
Protocol V2 brings exchange and routing paths intended to work across several market structures. The Block reported four initial types: Binary, Atomic Neg-risk, Incremental Neg-risk and Combinatorial. Polymarket’s integration guide specifies ExchangeV3 for V2 trading, a signing domain version of “3,” and new approval targets. Split, merge and redemption operations use Router.

Resolution and cross-chain design
A new OracleAggregator is intended to connect market resolution to UMA, Chainlink and other data sources. The reported architecture also provides for moving positions, collateral and resolutions across chains. That is a design provision, not an announced cross-chain service: the available rollout report did not specify launch timing or supported networks.
How does V2 differ from the existing CTF setup?
| Area | Existing CTF markets and holdings | Protocol V2 |
|---|---|---|
| Position representation | CTF token IDs; Polymarket says existing holdings are not converted. (Polymarket Documentation, “Migrate to Polymarket Protocol V2”) | V2 position IDs with balances in PositionManager. (Polymarket Documentation, “Migrate to Polymarket Protocol V2”) |
| Trading and operations | Existing CTF support must be retained by integrations. The cited migration guide does not specify the full legacy operation path. (Polymarket Documentation, “Migrate to Polymarket Protocol V2”) | ExchangeV3 for trading; Router for split, merge and redemption; new approval targets and signing domain version “3.” (Polymarket Documentation, “Migrate to Polymarket Protocol V2”) |
| Collateral | The April 2026 exchange upgrade was scoped to the earlier USDC.e-to-pUSD cutover; it carried active positions over. (Polymarket Help Center, pUSD upgrade article) | pUSD collateral, as described in The Block’s October 6, 2026 report. |
| Market structures | Not stated as a complete comparison in the cited Protocol V2 rollout report. | Binary, Atomic Neg-risk, Incremental Neg-risk and Combinatorial markets were reported as the initial V2 types. (The Block, October 6, 2026) |
| Resolution and chain support | Not stated as a complete comparison in the cited Protocol V2 rollout report. | OracleAggregator is intended to connect to UMA, Chainlink and other sources; cross-chain movement is a reported future provision without announced networks or timing. (The Block, October 6, 2026) |
Do existing users need to migrate?
App and website users
Polymarket’s documentation says: “App and website users: No technical migration is required. Complete any approval prompts shown in the app.” Existing CTF positions remain under the existing representation rather than being converted into V2 positions. Follow the approval prompts presented by the app if they appear.

Developers and integrators
Integrations have work to do even though regular users do not. The migration guide calls for version-aware handling: select V2 position IDs or CTF token IDs according to the market, use the V2 ExchangeV3 order flow and its signing domain, approve the new targets, and use PositionManager and Router for the specified balance and position operations. Integrators also need to retain CTF support for existing markets or holdings; switching entirely to V2 would leave legacy positions unsupported.
When will Polymarket switch new markets to V2?
The Block’s October 6 report said the production canary was expected to run through October 30 and gave November 2 as a tentative switch date for newly created markets. Polymarket’s official migration guide explains the technical migration but does not establish that this reported target is final. Treat the schedule as subject to change, and distinguish a planned switch for new markets from the status of existing CTF positions.

What is known about V2 security?
The Block reported that Protocol V2 code was audited by Cantina, Certora, Quantstamp, SigmaPrime, Zellic and Pashov; Certora also formally verified code. It reported a bug bounty of up to $5 million for critical findings. Polymarket’s official CTF Exchange V2 repository lists Quantstamp and Cantina audit reports and points to a Cantina bug bounty program. These reviews and disclosure incentives are useful evidence of security work, but they do not guarantee that smart contracts are free from vulnerabilities.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe official repository also describes operator-driven order matching, multiple settlement types, signature schemes and wrapped collateral, and lists Polygon deployments. Those repository details help developers verify the exchange implementation; they should not be confused with descriptions in the older, archived CTF Exchange repository, which points readers to the V2 repository.

What the rollout means in practice
- For ordinary Polymarket app and website users, no technical migration is required under the official guide.
- For developers, V2 adds a distinct integration path while requiring continued support for CTF positions.
- For market availability, canary markets are live, while the broad move of newly created markets to V2 remains tied to a tentative reported date.
- For cross-chain use, the architecture reportedly anticipates it, but no launch date or network list has been announced in the cited rollout report.
