NSE has announced that Polycab India’s stock will leave the futures and options (F&O) segment under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) framework. Existing October, November and December 2026 contracts remain available until their respective expiries, but no Polycab F&O contracts will be available from December 30, 2026. The circular changes derivatives access; it does not say that Polycab’s equity shares are cancelled or delisted, and it does not establish that the announcement caused a particular share-price move.
What NSE announced and when
NSE circular NSE/SURV/76858, dated October 12, 2026, lists POLYCAB as shortlisted under the IBC framework. The exchange says it will stop issuing contracts for new expiry months after the October 2026 contracts expire. Existing October, November and December contracts may continue to trade until their respective expiry dates. The circular states that no Polycab futures and options contracts will be available from December 30, 2026 onward. Read the circular copy.

The dates and requirements above are the circular’s terms. The margin provision should not be read as a calculation of the exact amount required for every account or position; that depends on the relevant contract and broker implementation.

What this means for F&O users
Open contracts
The circular allows existing contracts to remain available through their stated expiries. Traders with positions should check their broker’s contract details, margin notices and expiry calendar, and consider how they intend to manage positions before the applicable expiry. The circular does not guarantee that a particular broker will offer every permitted facility or that liquidity will remain unchanged.

New positions and later trading
Because new expiry months stop being issued after October contracts expire, the available set of Polycab derivatives contracts will narrow as existing expiries pass. From December 30, 2026, the circular says no Polycab F&O contracts will be available. The additional price-band and gross-settlement measures are specified from January 1, 2027, after the existing contracts expire.
F&O exclusion is not an equity delisting
This announcement concerns derivatives contracts and surveillance. It does not state that Polycab equity shares will be removed from the stock exchange, that shareholders lose ownership, or that the company’s equity listing is cancelled. Shareholders should distinguish an exchange’s action on derivatives availability from the status of the underlying listed shares.

Why the circular cites the IBC framework
NSE’s circular gives shortlisting under the IBC framework as the basis for this action. It should not be presented as proof that Polycab failed the exchange’s ordinary liquidity or market-size tests.
NSE’s general equity-derivatives criteria describe rolling assessments involving market capitalization and traded-value rankings, quarter-sigma order size, market-wide position limit and average daily deliverable value. For ordinary eligibility exits, the criteria page describes specified tests being unmet for three consecutive months, with at least six months since a stock’s introduction; existing unexpired contracts can continue until expiry. It also says continued eligibility on any exchange preserves F&O eligibility across exchanges, and describes conditions for possible reintroduction, including a one-year period before an excluded stock is considered and six consecutive months meeting criteria, subject to exchange action and SEBI approval. Those general rules are context, not the stated reason for Polycab’s circular. NSE’s equity-derivatives selection criteria.

What is known about the insolvency proceeding
Polycab’s October 8, 2026 disclosure, reproduced by BazaarWatch, says the NCLT Ahmedabad Bench admitted a Section 9 IBC petition on October 7. The petition was filed by Asier Metals Private Limited and concerns alleged operational debt of ₹2.79 crore; that amount is an allegation described in the disclosure, not a finding that the debt is owed. An October 12 Economic Times report says the NCLAT stayed and kept in abeyance the NCLT admission order pending further orders. The appellate order itself is not cited here, so its exact scope and legal consequences should not be inferred from the report alone. Economic Times report.

Can the exclusion move Polycab’s share price?
Investors may respond to news about a company’s derivatives eligibility or insolvency proceedings, but the cited circular and reports do not establish that the exclusion caused any particular move in Polycab’s equity price. A price change observed around the announcement is a temporal association, not proof of cause. Assessing a market reaction requires dated share-price and volume data, alongside other relevant news and market conditions.
