If you bought the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass but cannot find its content, work through Nintendo’s checks in this order: update the Switch 2 and Pokopia, restart, verify the purchase with the Nintendo Account that paid, load or redownload the DLC’s Virtual Game Card, then check the in-game DLC menu and story requirements. If you still cannot access the pass, use the reinstall procedure for your physical or digital copy and contact Nintendo Support.
What the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass includes
The Expansion Pass is paid downloadable content for Nintendo Switch 2. It is separate from the full Pokémon Pokopia game, so you must own the base game as well as the pass. Buying the pass does not transfer ownership to every user on the console: the purchase belongs to the Nintendo Account that bought it.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
The pass is sold digitally through Nintendo eShop and the Nintendo Store. There are no separate official Expansion Pass editions identified in Nintendo’s product information. If you do not own the required game, look for the full Pokémon Pokopia Nintendo Switch 2 game; buying a physical game-key-card copy does not include or replace the separately purchased pass.
Three different “missing DLC” situations
| What you cannot find | What it may mean | First check |
|---|---|---|
| Bubbly Basin | The pass or its Virtual Game Card is not available, or the story gate has not been cleared. | Verify the purchaser account, load the DLC card, then learn Dive and complete the required Bleak Beach request. |
| Dynamic Ditto print blocks or wallpaper recipe | This is a purchase bonus delivered through the game’s Downloadable Content menu, not the Bubbly Basin area. | Update Pokopia to version 1.1.0 or later and use Check Items. |
| Part 2 or Part 3 | The section may not have released in your market yet. | Check Nintendo’s current release information rather than treating unreleased content as a failed download. |
Identifying which of these you mean prevents unnecessary redownloading. The map, the bonus recipes and future pass parts use different checks, so a successful recipe claim does not prove that a story area is already unlocked.

- Shape the world and build a cozy new life with Pokémon as a Ditto transformed to look like a human.
- Use other Pokémon’s moves, like Bulbasaur’s Leafage, to revitalize and navigate the world around you.
- Meet and befriend more Pokémon as you help nature flourish.
- Gather materials to create items and furniture, till the fields to grow delicious crops, build homes for the Pokémon you meet, and more—there’s so much to do!
- Experience a world with varied weather, real-time days and nights, and other surprises.
1. Update Switch 2, update Pokopia, and restart
Nintendo’s troubleshooting sequence starts with software updates. An outdated system or game can prevent the console from recognizing newly purchased content. Complete both updates before changing account or installation settings.
- From HOME, open System Settings > System > System Update and install any available Switch 2 update.
- Connect the console to the internet. Highlight Pokémon Pokopia on HOME without launching it, press + or −, choose Software Update > Via the Internet, and let the update finish.
- Restart the console: hold the POWER button, choose Power Options, then Restart.
Start the game only after the restart has completed. Updating the system alone does not update Pokopia, and updating Pokopia alone does not establish that the DLC purchase is loaded on this console. If the console was offline, reconnect before using the update command; the update and license checks require an internet connection.
2. Confirm the purchase with the correct Nintendo Account
Open Nintendo eShop with the user who actually purchased the Expansion Pass. Search for the pass and inspect the purchase button.
- Purchased means the eShop recognizes the pass on that Nintendo Account.
- A displayed price means the account you opened may not own the DLC, or the purchase was never completed on that account.
Switch to the buying user before attempting another download. Nintendo’s Switch 2 purchase guidance says digital content is added to the Virtual Game Card belonging to the Nintendo Account used to launch eShop. Purchased digital content cannot be transferred to another user, even when both users share the same console.
This check also explains why a family member can launch the base game yet fail to see the pass. The game license and the add-on license are separate records. Use the purchaser account to verify ownership first; do not buy the pass again merely because a non-purchasing user sees a price.
If several Nintendo Accounts are saved on the Switch 2, write down which profile opened eShop for the original transaction. Checking a different profile can make a valid purchase look absent. Once the correct profile shows Purchased, continue with the Virtual Game Card steps instead of starting a second transaction.
3. Load or redownload the Expansion Pass Virtual Game Card
On Switch 2, the pass can be owned but unavailable to the console until its Virtual Game Card is loaded. From the pass’s eShop result, choose Virtual Game Cards, confirm, and make sure the Expansion Pass card is loaded on the system.

Loading the card is different from merely seeing the product page. The eShop page confirms the account’s entitlement, while the Virtual Game Card controls which purchased software or add-on data is active on that console. If the card is assigned to another console, use the console’s Virtual Game Cards screen to load it here with the purchaser account.
Use Online License as an alternate route
If loading the card from the eShop page does not work, Nintendo provides an online-license route:
- Open the user profile’s Online License Settings and enable Use Online License.
- From HOME, open Virtual Game Cards.
- Choose the Nintendo Account that bought the pass.
- Select the Expansion Pass, choose Options > Download Data, and confirm the download on HOME.
Nintendo’s general Switch 2 instructions also allow a purchased download to be redownloaded by loading its Virtual Game Card from HOME. The eShop page is for verifying ownership; it is not the normal redownload route. Wait for the HOME download to finish before launching Pokopia, then restart the game so it can scan the newly installed add-on.
4. Check the DLC from inside Pokémon Pokopia
Launch Pokopia with the intended player user and press A at the title screen. Open the Pokédex with +, select Downloadable Content at the bottom right, and choose Check Items.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →This menu is where Nintendo directs players to retrieve the dynamic Ditto print blocks and wallpaper recipe that come with the purchase. Those items are a bonus; receiving them does not unlock Bubbly Basin by itself. If the menu does not show the items, verify that the game is updated to version 1.1.0, which Nintendo lists as required for the recipe bonus, and repeat the Virtual Game Card check.
Use the same player profile that owns or is permitted to use the game when checking the menu. If the title screen opens normally but Downloadable Content is missing, return to HOME, confirm the game update, and verify that the pass card is loaded. Do not expect a wallpaper recipe to appear as a new map marker; it is claimed from the item-check menu.
5. Clear Bubbly Basin’s progression gate
A working pass does not make every area immediately enterable. Nintendo states: “To access Bubbly Basin’s underwater gate, you must first learn Dive and complete the important request ‘Raise the environment level!’ in Bleak Beach.”
Rank #3
- Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass
- Play until your character learns Dive. Dive was added in a free Pokopia software update, so install the game update even if you purchased the pass recently.
- Travel to Bleak Beach and complete the important request Raise the environment level!.
- Return to Bubbly Basin’s underwater gate and try to enter again.
Both conditions matter. Learning Dive without completing the Bleak Beach request, or completing the request before Dive is available, does not satisfy the gate. If you have not completed both requirements, the gate is progression-locked rather than evidence that the Expansion Pass failed to install. Rechecking the eShop or reinstalling the game will not bypass this story condition.

6. Make sure you are not looking for unreleased content
Nintendo listed Part 1, Bubbly Basin, as released on August 4, 2026. The same 2026 product information scheduled Part 2 for late 2026 and Part 3 for 2027. Nintendo’s troubleshooting article said Parts 2 and 3 had not released when its instructions were prepared.
Release timing can change by market and over time. Before diagnosing Part 2 or Part 3 as missing, check the current Nintendo listing for your country and the latest in-game update. Do not expect an unreleased section to appear in the Downloadable Content menu simply because the Expansion Pass was purchased. A pass purchase grants the entitlement, but content still has to be released and delivered by Nintendo.
7. Reinstall the game and DLC without deleting save data
If ownership, Virtual Game Card status, updates, and progression are all correct, Nintendo separates the recovery path by game format. The key distinction is to delete software data, not your save data. Read each confirmation screen carefully before accepting it.
Physical game-key-card copy
- Close Pokopia and safely suspend your current game state.
- Remove the physical game card.
- Use the console’s Delete Software Data command for Pokopia. Do not choose an option that deletes save data.
- Reinsert the game card. The console should prompt you to redownload the game software.
- Install the game, update it through Software Update > Via the Internet, and redownload the Expansion Pass using the purchaser account and its Virtual Game Card.
The physical card provides the game license; it does not replace the separately purchased digital Expansion Pass. Reinstalling the game card software therefore must be followed by a DLC redownload. Removing and reinserting the card alone does not repair a missing add-on installation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDigital copy
- Close Pokopia.
- Delete the game’s software data while preserving save data.
- Redownload Pokopia from its digital library using the account that owns the game.
- Install the latest game update.
- Load or redownload the Expansion Pass Virtual Game Card with the account that purchased the pass.
Do not interpret “delete software data” as “delete the game and saves.” Nintendo’s recovery instructions specifically preserve save data while replacing the installed software and add-on files. If you are uncertain which menu item preserves saves, stop and ask Nintendo Support rather than confirming the deletion.
Check the game and DLC sales regions
Nintendo’s general Switch 2 software guidance recommends using software and add-on content from the same sales or distribution country. A different-country combination may not work and is outside Nintendo’s compatibility checks and after-sales service coverage.
Rank #4
- Pokémon Pokopia Bundle (Game + Expansion Pass)
This is general guidance, not a Pokopia-specific matrix proving that every cross-region combination fails. If your physical game, Nintendo Account, eShop and Expansion Pass come from different markets, record the country associated with each purchase and ask Nintendo whether that combination is supported. Avoid buying a second copy until the region issue is clear. A matching language or a console’s physical location does not by itself prove that the sales regions match.
What not to assume
- Do not assume a second console user owns a pass purchased by someone else. Ownership stays with the buying Nintendo Account.
- Do not assume a price on the eShop proves the DLC is broken. It usually indicates that the current user is not the purchaser or that the transaction was not completed.
- Do not assume Ditto print bonuses are the Bubbly Basin map. Retrieve them through Pokédex > Downloadable Content > Check Items.
- Do not assume an inaccessible underwater gate means the download failed. Learn Dive and complete the Bleak Beach request first.
- Do not assume a scheduled Part 2 or Part 3 is available before its release in your market.
- Do not attribute the problem to a broad Nintendo outage without current evidence. The Nintendo guidance does not identify a known widespread Pokopia access outage.
- Do not delete save data while trying to refresh installed files. Nintendo’s recovery path calls for software-data deletion only.
When to contact Nintendo Support
Contact Nintendo after completing the update, purchaser-account, Virtual Game Card, in-game, progression, region and reinstall checks. Include the Nintendo Account used for the purchase, whether the eShop says Purchased, whether the Expansion Pass card is loaded, your Pokopia version, whether your copy is physical or digital, and the exact message or missing item.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Keep your purchase receipt or transaction record available. If the support agent asks you to reinstall, state that your save data must be preserved and follow the software-data procedure for your copy type. Nintendo’s dedicated Unable to Access DLC (Pokémon Pokopia) guidance directs players to support when the published recovery steps do not restore access.
Bonus-code timing is separate from Expansion Pass access
Nintendo also describes a Pokémetal bonus code delivered through Mystery Gifts. That feature becomes available after approximately 30 minutes of play, according to Nintendo’s product information. This timing applies to the emailed bonus-code redemption feature; it is not a requirement for entering Bubbly Basin or loading the Expansion Pass. Waiting 30 minutes will not repair a missing Virtual Game Card or bypass the Bleak Beach progression gate.

Use this short order when you want the fastest diagnosis:
- If the eShop shows a price, change to the Nintendo Account that paid and confirm the transaction.
- If it shows Purchased, load the Expansion Pass Virtual Game Card or enable Online License and choose Options > Download Data.
- If the missing item is a recipe, update to version 1.1.0 or later and run Check Items.
- If the missing item is Bubbly Basin, learn Dive and finish Raise the environment level! in Bleak Beach.
- If you are waiting for Part 2 or Part 3, verify its release date for your market.
- Only after those checks, reinstall the software while preserving save data and then contact Nintendo if access is still unavailable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Nintendo eShop show a price instead of Purchased?
You may be viewing the pass with a Nintendo Account that did not buy it, or the original transaction may not have completed. Open eShop with the purchasing account. Nintendo says digital purchases belong to that account and cannot be transferred to another user.
How do I redownload the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass?
Verify that the purchaser account sees Purchased, open Virtual Game Cards, load the Expansion Pass card, and confirm the download. Alternatively enable Use Online License, choose the purchaser account in Virtual Game Cards, select the pass, then choose Options > Download Data. Nintendo does not use the product page itself as the normal redownload route.

Why can’t I enter Bubbly Basin?
The underwater gate has a story requirement. Learn Dive and complete the important request Raise the environment level! in Bleak Beach, then return to the gate. If either task is incomplete, the restriction is a progression gate rather than a failed DLC installation.
Where are the Ditto print blocks and wallpaper recipe?
They are purchase bonuses, not the Bubbly Basin area. Launch Pokopia, press A at the title screen, open the Pokédex with +, select Downloadable Content, and choose Check Items. Version 1.1.0 or later is required for the recipe bonus.
Will the Expansion Pass work for another user on my Switch 2?
The purchase belongs to the Nintendo Account that bought it. Other users may be able to use content according to Nintendo’s console licensing rules, but they cannot claim ownership or redownload it as the purchaser. Verify the pass and Virtual Game Card with the buying account first.
Recommended Free Tools
What happens if I own a physical game-key-card copy?
Remove the card, delete Pokopia software data without deleting save data, reinsert the card to redownload the game, update it, and then redownload the separately purchased pass. The physical card does not include or replace the digital Expansion Pass.
Could a region mismatch cause missing DLC?
Nintendo recommends pairing software and add-on content from the same sales or distribution country. A different-country pairing may not work and is outside Nintendo’s compatibility checks. Because there is no Pokopia-specific matrix confirming every combination, ask Nintendo about your exact game, account and pass regions.
When are Part 2 and Part 3 available?
Nintendo listed Part 1, Bubbly Basin, for August 4, 2026, Part 2 for late 2026 and Part 3 for 2027. Release timing can change by market, so check the current Nintendo listing before treating either later part as missing.
Does the 30-minute Mystery Gifts wait unlock the Expansion Pass?
No. Approximately 30 minutes of play applies to availability of the emailed Pokémetal bonus-code feature. It does not load the Expansion Pass, unlock Bubbly Basin or replace the account and Virtual Game Card checks.

Nintendo’s recovery instructions call for deleting software data while preserving save data. Follow the physical or digital procedure carefully and do not select a save-data deletion command. If a menu is unclear, contact Nintendo before confirming it.
The Bottom Line
For a missing Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass, verify the buying Nintendo Account, load or redownload its Virtual Game Card, update and restart the Switch 2, then check the in-game DLC menu and Bubbly Basin’s Dive and Bleak Beach requirements. Confirm that later pass parts have actually released and that your game and add-on use compatible sales regions. If the issue remains, reinstall software data without deleting saves and contact Nintendo Support.
