Pokémon Adventure Modpack Guide: Install COBBLEVERSE and Set Up a Server

A complete guide to identifying the right Pokemon Adventure project, installing COBBLEVERSE on Fabric 1.21.1, hosting it on Linux or Windows, choosing managed hosting, and keeping the separate 1.10.2 Forge pack straight.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There are two unrelated Minecraft projects called “Pokemon Adventure.” The current one most players mean is COBBLEVERSE – Pokemon Adventure [Cobblemon], built for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 with Fabric. The older GWSheridan pack uses Minecraft 1.10.2 with Forge. Confirm which pack you have before installing anything: their launchers, files, and server commands are not interchangeable.

Identify the right Pokemon Adventure project first

Short-name searches are the main source of failed installations. Use the project name, Minecraft version, and mod loader together when downloading files.

The current COBBLEVERSE listing is the one built around catching, training, and battling Pokémon in an adventure world with gyms, badges, starter content, custom structures, music, and shaders. Its Modrinth description advertises all 1,025 Pokémon, while its CurseForge description advertises 93 Mega Evolutions. Those are release-description claims and can change as the pack is updated; they are not a permanent specification.

What you need for COBBLEVERSE

Required edition and loader

  • Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1; Bedrock Edition is not the target platform.
  • The Fabric loader, not Forge or NeoForge.
  • The same COBBLEVERSE pack build on every client and on the server.
  • A launcher that can install a Fabric modpack, such as the Modrinth App or another launcher that supports the project files.

The CurseForge listing showed build 1.7.42 for 1.21.1 Fabric on July 22, 2026. Pack files are volatile, so treat that number as a reference, not a promise that it is still the newest build on October 15, 2026. Select one current release and keep all players and the server on it.

Memory planning

Use case Starting allocation What can increase the requirement
Single-player client At least 4 GB for smooth play, according to the project guidance High view distance, shaders, texture packs, background applications, and large exploration areas
Multiplayer client or server Plan for 6 GB or more as a starting point More players, rapid world generation, many loaded entities, higher simulation distance, and simultaneous client shaders

These are practical starting recommendations from the project pages, not a universal benchmark. Increasing memory cannot compensate for a weak CPU, a slow disk, an overloaded host, or a mismatched mod set. Allocate only what the machine can spare for the operating system and other services.

Install the current pack on a client

Use the official project distribution

  1. Open the current COBBLEVERSE project listing on the official Modrinth or CurseForge distribution. Do not select an older project merely because its short name also contains “Pokemon Adventure.”
  2. Choose a file for Minecraft 1.21.1 and Fabric. If the listing shows a newer build than 1.7.42, use the newer build consistently for everyone.
  3. Install or open the Modrinth App, then use its create-instance or install-from-project workflow to add COBBLEVERSE. The app should create the Fabric instance and download the pack’s dependencies.
  4. If you use GDLauncher, create a new Fabric instance and select the supported Minecraft and pack versions. Let the launcher install the loader and dependencies rather than adding random jar files manually.
  5. Open the instance’s memory settings and assign at least 4 GB for a normal single-player test. Leave enough RAM for the operating system.
  6. Launch once before joining a server. Allow the pack to finish downloading, then reach the title screen and create a temporary world. This confirms that the instance itself works before networking is introduced.

Check the installation before inviting friends

  • In the launcher, verify the instance says Minecraft 1.21.1 and Fabric.
  • Confirm every player selected the same COBBLEVERSE release, not merely the same Minecraft version.
  • Do not add performance, map, or content mods until the unmodified pack launches. Extra mods can change dependencies and make support difficult.
  • If a launcher reports a missing dependency, remove the partially created instance and reinstall the project through its distribution page instead of downloading individual files from unrelated sites.

Build a self-hosted COBBLEVERSE server

The maintained COBBLEVERSE server-pack repository supplies a ready-made Fabric server structure, configuration files, datapacks, and startup guidance for Linux and Windows. It specifies Minecraft 1.21.1 and Fabric Loader 0.16.14. Download the server pack that matches the client release you selected; do not assemble a server by copying only the client’s mods folder.

Prepare the machine

  • Use a machine that can reserve at least 6 GB for multiplayer while retaining memory for the operating system.
  • Prefer a fast local drive and a stable wired connection if the machine will generate new terrain for several players.
  • Keep the server directory separate from personal files so backups and permissions are easy to manage.
  • Record the pack build, loader version, Java runtime used, and configuration changes in a small text file. That record makes upgrades and rollback much safer.

Linux installation

  1. Extract the server archive into a dedicated directory and enter it in a terminal.
  2. Read the supplied files before changing anything. Keep the included mods, configs, datapacks, and Fabric launcher together.
  3. Accept Minecraft’s EULA by creating eula.txt containing exactly eula=true on its own line.
  4. Start the server with the supplied Fabric launcher. The repository gives this example for 1.21.1 and Loader 0.16.14:
    java -Xmx8G -Xms4G -jar fabric-server-mc.1.21.1-loader.0.16.14-launcher.1.1.0.jar nogui
  5. Watch the console until generation completes and the server reports that it is ready. Stop it cleanly from the console before editing files.

-Xms4G sets the initial heap and -Xmx8G caps it at 8 GB in the example. Adjust both values to the memory you actually reserved; copying an 8 GB maximum onto a small machine can cause swapping or an operating-system kill.

Windows installation

  1. Extract the archive with 7-Zip, WinRAR, or an equivalent tool. Avoid running the server from inside the compressed archive.
  2. Open Command Prompt in the extracted server folder, or create a batch file in that folder.
  3. Accept the EULA by creating eula.txt with eula=true.
  4. Run the same launcher command, changing the memory values to suit the computer:
    java -Xmx8G -Xms4G -jar fabric-server-mc.1.21.1-loader.0.16.14-launcher.1.1.0.jar nogui
  5. Keep the command window available while testing. Its log will identify missing files, loader errors, and datapack failures.

Configure the world and server identity

  1. Stop the server after its first successful start.
  2. Open server.properties and set the server name or MOTD and the listening port you intend to use.
  3. Enable command blocks before generating maps, as the server-pack guidance requires. Existing worlds may not gain the intended scripted behavior if required settings were disabled during creation.
  4. Start the server again and create or load the world. Let initial generation finish before several players travel in different directions.
  5. Back up the world folder, server.properties, the configs, and datapacks before changing the pack build, Fabric loader, or world-generation settings.

Let friends connect

Players on the same home network can test with the host machine’s local address. For internet play, the server operator must expose the configured port through the router or firewall and give friends the correct public address. Router menus differ, so document the exact port you selected and restrict administration to trusted users. If the server works locally but not from outside, test firewall and port-forwarding rules before reinstalling the modpack.

  • COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.

Every connecting player still needs the matching Java version, Fabric loader, COBBLEVERSE build, and required client-side files. A reachable port does not make incompatible clients compatible.

Choose between self-hosting and managed hosting

A managed Minecraft host can install a supported pack through a control panel and keep the machine online without requiring you to maintain a home server. The project pages describe one-click installation and recommend at least 6 GB of RAM for a strong multiplayer experience. Those statements are the project’s recommendations and experience reports, not independent performance tests.

Decision factor Self-hosting Managed hosting
Version and loader matching You select and maintain Minecraft 1.21.1, Fabric, the pack build, and the server files yourself. The panel may automate installation, but you still must verify its offered pack build and loader.
RAM and CPU headroom Limited by your existing hardware; reserve 6 GB or more for multiplayer and account for world generation. Choose a plan with at least the project’s 6 GB starting guidance and check CPU, storage, and player limits.
Configs, datapacks, and backups Full file access and complete responsibility for scheduled backups and rollback. Usually easier through a panel, but backup retention, restore fees, and file access vary by provider.
Installation and support Manual extraction, EULA acceptance, Java commands, firewall work, and troubleshooting. One-click installation and provider support can reduce setup work; support response and modpack coverage vary.
Network exposure You configure port forwarding, firewall rules, and home-network security. The provider supplies the public endpoint, while you still secure accounts and operator permissions.
Cost No recurring hosting bill if suitable hardware is already available, but electricity and maintenance remain your costs. A recurring fee buys an always-on machine and support; current prices and limits depend on the plan.

Before paying, verify the exact COBBLEVERSE version offered, Fabric support, modpack import method, allocated RAM, CPU model or limits, storage, backup policy, player cap, cancellation terms, and whether support will troubleshoot third-party datapacks. A plan advertised as “Minecraft hosting” is not automatically compatible with this pack.

Operate the server safely after installation

Backups and upgrades

  • Stop the server cleanly before copying the world or changing datapacks.
  • Keep at least one backup away from the server machine. Name backups with the date, pack build, and loader version.
  • Test restoring a copy rather than assuming a backup is usable.
  • Upgrade one component at a time. Back up first, change the pack or loader, start the server, and inspect the log before allowing players to join.
  • Do not delete a world because a new build fails. Restore the prior server files and backup, then investigate the log.

Control load during play

World generation and entity load are usually more demanding than simply having a server running. Keep view and simulation distances reasonable while exploring, avoid sending many players in different directions during the first generation pass, and ask clients using shaders to lower their own settings if their frame rate suffers. More client RAM does not remove server-side CPU or disk limits.

  • discover community creations in the new in-game store
  • access new mini games and game modes through servers

Keep administration separate from gameplay

Use a strong operator password, grant operator status only to people who need it, and avoid downloading “fix” mods from unverified sources. Record every datapack and configuration change. When a problem begins, the change log and server console are more useful than repeatedly reinstalling the client.

Troubleshoot the problems players hit most often

Symptom Likely cause Action
Launcher refuses to start the instance Wrong Minecraft version, Forge selected instead of Fabric, or an incomplete download Create a clean 1.21.1 Fabric instance and install the current COBBLEVERSE release through the project distribution.
“Incompatible mod” or handshake error when joining Client and server use different pack builds, loaders, or mod files Compare the complete version labels and reinstall the same server and client build.
Server exits during startup Insufficient available memory, missing Java/runtime component, damaged extraction, or a changed file Read the first error in the console, restore the supplied server files, and lower the heap only if the machine cannot spare the configured maximum.
World loads but scripted features or structures do not work Command blocks were disabled before map generation, or datapacks were altered Check the command-block setting and datapack list. Restore a pre-change backup before attempting a repair on an important world.
Players on the internet cannot connect, but the host can Firewall, router forwarding, wrong public address, or a port mismatch Confirm the port in server.properties, allow it through the host firewall, verify the router rule, and test from a different network.
Severe lag appears as more players explore CPU, disk, or memory pressure from simultaneous chunk generation and entities Reduce view or simulation distance, pre-generate cautiously if your tools support it, limit unnecessary entities, and move to hardware with more CPU and RAM headroom.

If you meant the legacy Pokemon Adventure pack

The GWSheridan project is not an earlier release of COBBLEVERSE; it is a separate Forge pack for Minecraft 1.10.2. Use its listed legacy server pack and Forge files, and do not reuse the Fabric 1.21.1 launcher command or COBBLEVERSE server directory.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Install Minecraft 1.10.2 with the Forge profile specified by that project.
  • Download the matching legacy client and server files from the same project listing.
  • Keep the legacy world and configuration in a separate directory from any 1.21.1 installation.
  • Use the legacy pack’s own startup instructions; Fabric Loader 0.16.14 and the 1.21.1 jar name belong only to COBBLEVERSE.

Third-party host pages commonly describe 4 GB as a starting point and 6 GB or more for additional headroom for this old pack. Those are host recommendations, not a universal requirement. The legacy CurseForge page listed 1,000,241 downloads and its last update as January 12, 2018, so old guides may assume files or launcher behavior that no longer matches current software.

Final setup checklist

  • Project identity confirmed: COBBLEVERSE (1.21.1 Fabric) or GWSheridan (1.10.2 Forge).
  • All clients and the server use the same Minecraft version, loader, and pack build.
  • Client memory starts at 4 GB; multiplayer planning starts at 6 GB or more, subject to actual hardware and settings.
  • The server archive was extracted intact, the EULA was accepted, and the supplied Fabric launcher starts successfully.
  • server.properties contains the intended MOTD and port, and command blocks were enabled before map generation.
  • Worlds, configs, and datapacks are backed up before upgrades.
  • Firewall, router, and operator permissions are configured before sharing the address.

For most new players, the reliable path is to install the current COBBLEVERSE release in a Fabric 1.21.1 client, test it locally, then use the maintained server pack or a managed host that explicitly supports that exact build. Treat the 1.10.2 Forge project as a different installation, not as an alternate server version.
