On paper, the POCO X8 Pro has the stronger performance-focused hardware package: it lists a newer Dimensity 8500-Ultra platform, LPDDR5X memory, UFS 4.1 storage and 100 W charging. The OnePlus Nord 5 is the better fit if you want a larger, higher-refresh-rate screen and Snapdragon-based gaming features. Neither phone is established as the sustained-gaming winner: the available claims are not from a controlled, same-game comparison.
At a glance: which phone suits your priorities?
| Priority | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Newer stated chipset and faster storage specification | POCO X8 Pro | POCO lists Dimensity 8500-Ultra, LPDDR5X and UFS 4.1. The storage specification is not proof of faster app or game loading in a matched test. |
| Larger gaming and video screen | OnePlus Nord 5 | Its 6.83-inch display is larger than the POCO’s 6.59-inch panel. |
| Higher refresh-rate ceiling | OnePlus Nord 5 | It supports up to 144 Hz, compared with up to 120 Hz on the POCO. Individual games must support the rates to benefit. |
| Higher advertised wired charging rate | POCO X8 Pro | POCO lists 100 W HyperCharge; OnePlus lists 80 W charging. Confirm the local charger and phone variant before buying. |
| Largest listed battery capacity | OnePlus Nord 5 | OnePlus lists 6800 mAh; POCO lists 6500 mAh typical. Capacity alone does not establish longer battery life. |
| Proven sustained-gaming advantage | Not established | No cited test compares both phones in the same game, settings and temperature conditions. |
What the performance specifications actually tell you
POCO X8 Pro: newer stated platform and fast storage
POCO specifies a MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra chipset, LPDDR5X memory, UFS 4.1 storage and a 5300 mm² IceLoop cooling system on its official X8 Pro specifications page. These make the POCO the stronger package by the listed hardware specifications. They do not, by themselves, show how the phone performs after a long gaming session or prove a particular difference in loading times.

POCO reports an AnTuTu V11.0.8 score of 2,283,558 from POCO Internal Labs, tested at approximately 25°C. The company cautions that results vary with testing conditions. Treat the number as POCO’s own benchmark result, not as a direct win over the Nord 5: it is not a shared-condition comparison.

OnePlus identifies the Nord 5’s platform as Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Its Nord 5 product page advertises 144 FPS support in selected games under specified settings. The headline rate needs context: OnePlus says the BGMI and Free Fire claims use adaptive frame boosting or interpolation. That is not the same as saying every game is natively rendered at 144 frames per second.

OnePlus’s steady-144-FPS claim is tied to its stated test setup, which includes a 12 GB phone variant, specified game modes and graphics settings, screen brightness, audio level and ambient temperature. It is a manufacturer claim, not evidence that the Nord 5 outperforms the POCO in an identical test.
Why a chipset or benchmark does not settle the gaming question
Game performance depends on more than the chipset name: the game, graphics settings, software, temperature and how the phone manages heat over time all matter. POCO’s cooling specification and OnePlus’s gaming features are relevant design claims, but the cited evidence does not compare their sustained results directly.

91mobiles’ specification comparison also notes that hands-on testing would give a better view of gaming differences. Separately, Tom’s Guide’s Nord 5 review describes smooth play in Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus, but that is an observation about the Nord alone—not a head-to-head result.
Screen: Nord 5 is bigger and has the higher refresh ceiling
The POCO X8 Pro has a 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with refresh rates up to 120 Hz, according to POCO. OnePlus lists a 6.83-inch, 144 Hz display for the Nord 5; the specifications are also reported in the 91mobiles comparison.

The Nord’s larger panel offers more screen area for games and video, while its 144 Hz ceiling can make supported content look smoother. Refresh rate is not the same as game frame rate: a title must support a high frame rate, and performance can vary with its settings. POCO also advertises 3500 nits peak brightness over 25% of the screen area; because that figure is tied to a specified area rather than a common independent test, it should not be treated as directly comparable to measurements made under different conditions.

POCO lists a 6500 mAh typical battery and 100 W HyperCharge. OnePlus lists a 6800 mAh battery and 80 W charging. The Nord has the larger stated capacity; the POCO has the higher advertised charging rate. Neither capacity alone nor the charging wattage tells you which will last longer in your own use.

POCO says the X8 Pro reached a full charge in 48 minutes in its lab using the in-box 100 W charger, with the screen off, Top speed mode enabled and an ambient temperature of about 25°C. That is a result under POCO’s stated conditions, not a guaranteed everyday charge time. POCO advises buyers to check charger availability with their local seller, so verify what comes in the box for your market.
OnePlus also advertises up to 9.5 hours of BGMI play as a OnePlus Test Lab claim. The product page says actual results vary with environment and use; it should not be read as a promise of that runtime for every player or as a comparison with the POCO.
Software and update commitments
The 91mobiles comparison reports the POCO X8 Pro with Android 16-based HyperOS 3.0 and four major OS upgrades plus six years of security updates. It reports the Nord 5 as launching with Android 15-based OxygenOS 15. OnePlus’s current product page states a commitment of four Android versions and six years of security updates. Software versions and regional rollout timing can change, so check the firmware offered for the specific phone in your market rather than relying solely on launch software.
Quick Recap
Which one should you buy?
Choose the POCO X8 Pro if
- You want the stronger listed hardware combination, led by its Dimensity 8500-Ultra, LPDDR5X and UFS 4.1 specifications.
- You value the higher advertised charging rate and are able to confirm compatible charger availability locally.
- You prefer a more compact display than the Nord 5’s 6.83-inch panel.
Choose the OnePlus Nord 5 if
- You want a larger screen and the higher 144 Hz refresh-rate ceiling.
- You value OnePlus’s Snapdragon-based gaming features, while recognizing that some named-game frame-rate claims use interpolation.
- The larger listed battery capacity matters more to you than the POCO’s higher charging wattage.
Check before ordering
- Compare the exact RAM and storage configuration, local price, seller, warranty and availability; these can differ by region.
- Confirm current software version and local update rollout for the handset you will receive.
- Check the box contents and charger compatibility rather than assuming a charger is included or that any USB-C charger will deliver the advertised maximum rate.
