Its cameras and software polish are less convincing, and it is only a modest upgrade over the POCO X6. It makes the most sense at a competitive local price for someone moving up from an older phone—not for someone expecting flagship gaming or camera performance.

What the POCO X7 does well
A strong screen for the price class
The 6.67-inch AMOLED panel is the phone’s standout feature: it combines a high 1220 × 2712 resolution with 120Hz refresh and HDR support. GSMArena measured a peak of 1,111 nits in its automatic-brightness test; that is a result from its review unit under test conditions, not a guaranteed reading for every phone. GSMArena also reports that still images drop to 60Hz and that some apps, games, streaming content and camera use may not reach the maximum refresh rate.

The Dimensity 7300 Ultra handles typical day-to-day tasks capably. GSMArena calls the performance adequate for the class, and other reviews similarly find the phone responsive for ordinary use. That is a more useful expectation than treating it as a gaming flagship: the X7 is the standard model, not the more powerful POCO X7 Pro.

Battery life and practical protection
Reviewers generally describe battery life as good or adequate. Keep the regional battery difference in mind when comparing reports: GSMArena’s global review unit has 5,110mAh, while its review notes the Indian model’s 5,500mAh capacity.
IP68 dust and water resistance is another meaningful advantage in this range. It adds reassurance against everyday exposure, though it is not a reason to deliberately submerge or mistreat the phone.

Where the POCO X7 falls short
Camera results are mixed
The 50MP main camera has optical image stabilization, but the other rear cameras are less substantial: an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro. Review assessments vary in emphasis. Notebookcheck finds daylight photos decent but points to weak zoom and low-light results; Tech Advisor describes the cameras as inconsistent. GSMArena criticizes the lack of useful lossless zoom compared with the X6. Taken together, this is a serviceable camera setup rather than a reason to buy the phone.
Charging is slower than on the X6, and the adapter may be absent
The X7 supports 45W charging, down from the POCO X6’s 67W. In GSMArena’s lab test of its review unit, the phone reached 35% in 15 minutes, 62% in 30 minutes and a full charge in 65 minutes; actual results can vary with conditions and equipment. GSMArena’s global review unit came with a 45W adapter, while Notebookcheck says the EU/UK versions it covered do not include one. Check the exact local package rather than assuming a charger is in the box.

Software polish is not a strength
Reviewers have criticized the software experience for ads and duplicated apps. GSMArena reported Android 14 and HyperOS 1.04 at review time, alongside Xiaomi’s commitment to at least three major Android-version updates and four years of security updates. Notebookcheck’s February 17, 2025 review reported updates until 2029. These are review-time reports, not a substitute for checking the current support information for the specific regional model you plan to buy.
POCO X7 vs. POCO X6: is upgrading worthwhile?
The X7 is a restrained generational change, not an automatic upgrade. It brings IP68 protection and a newer design, but it also reduces rated charging speed from the X6’s 67W to 45W. GSMArena says the X7 also loses the X6’s useful lossless zoom behavior. If you already own an X6 that is working well, the improvements may not justify replacing it; if you are upgrading from a substantially older phone, the display, protection and overall package are more compelling.

Who should buy the POCO X7?
- Consider it if you want a bright, high-resolution AMOLED display, smooth scrolling, capable everyday performance and water resistance in a mid-range phone.
- Look elsewhere if zoom or low-light photography is a priority, you want the fastest charging, or you expect a clean and especially polished software experience.
- Skip the upgrade if you already have a POCO X6 and are considering the X7 only for a major performance or camera leap.
Alternatives worth comparing
Reviews identify the Motorola Edge 50 Neo, Samsung Galaxy A55, Redmi Note 13 Pro+, Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G, Galaxy A25 5G and CMF Phone 1 as alternatives in different markets and price contexts. There is no single best substitute without knowing local pricing and configurations. Compare the options on these points before choosing:

- Camera needs: pay particular attention to zoom and low-light results, not just the main-camera megapixel count.
- Support: compare the length and clarity of each maker’s software and security-update commitments.
- Charging: check both charging speed and whether an adapter is included.
- Hardware and software preferences: weigh screen quality, water resistance, Android interface and preferred ecosystem.
GSMArena notes that the Indian POCO X7 and Indian Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G are effectively twins, while the global Redmi version differs. Do not assume that comparison applies unchanged outside India.

Verdict
The POCO X7 is a well-rounded mid-range phone, led by its display, everyday performance, battery life and IP68 protection. Its camera system, software experience and slower charging keep it from being an obvious all-round winner. Buy it when the local price is attractive and the regional version suits your needs; for X6 owners, the upgrade case is comparatively weak.
