The POCO M8 5G is the stronger fit if you want a sharper AMOLED screen and a lighter phone; the Xiaomi REDMI 17 5G is the larger handset with a higher listed battery capacity. Both publish support for up to 120Hz refresh rates and 45W charging. There is no reliable price gap to quote without prices for both phones in the same market and storage configuration.

POCO lists an AMOLED panel with 2392 × 1080 resolution, while REDMI lists a larger 6.9-inch screen at 1600 × 720. That makes the POCO the specification-led choice for resolution and panel type; REDMI offers more screen area by diagonal measurement. Both manufacturers list refresh rates up to 120Hz. Those published details do not establish which display looks better in every condition, such as brightness outdoors or color accuracy.

Battery capacity, charging and performance
Battery and charging
REDMI’s listed typical capacity is 7500mAh, compared with 5520mAh for POCO. Capacity alone does not prove longer real-world runtime: usage, network conditions, screen settings and software all affect how long a phone lasts. Both list 45W charging. REDMI specifies wired reverse charging up to 22.5W, versus POCO’s up to 18W.
Chipsets
POCO specifies Snapdragon 6 Gen 3; REDMI specifies Snapdragon 4 Gen 5. These chipset names identify the published hardware, but the available specifications do not provide comparable benchmark results or establish how the phones perform in particular games or workloads.

Cameras, storage and carrying comfort
POCO lists a 50MP main camera with a 2MP depth camera and rear video recording up to 4K at 30fps. REDMI lists a 50MP main camera with an auxiliary lens and rear video up to 1080p at 30fps. Camera resolution and recording limits alone do not determine photo quality.
Both use a hybrid SIM/microSD arrangement, so adding a memory card may affect use of the second SIM slot. POCO lists support for cards up to 1TB; REDMI lists up to 2TB and says the card is sold separately. Their listed weights differ substantially: 178g for POCO and 232g for REDMI.

What is the price difference?
A dependable price difference cannot be calculated from the available official listings because they do not establish current prices for both phones in the same market and storage configuration. Xiaomi Germany listed the REDMI 17 5G at €229.90, against a recommended price of €249.90, on a listing dated September 1, 2026. That is a market- and date-specific REDMI listing, not a like-for-like comparison with POCO. Prices, discounts and stock can change. Check Xiaomi Germany’s REDMI 17 5G listing; compare it with the POCO price offered locally before deciding.
Which should you choose?
- Choose POCO M8 5G if the published AMOLED panel, higher resolution, lighter listed weight or 4K/30fps rear video recording matter most to you.
- Choose REDMI 17 5G if you prefer the larger screen, higher listed battery capacity, higher maximum wired reverse-charging rating or greater stated microSD capacity.
- Compare local listings before buying if price is decisive. Match country, storage configuration, included accessories and current discount rather than comparing a price from one market with an unverified price from another.
Check regional details before purchase
Both manufacturers note that availability or configurations can vary by region. Network bands and NFC availability may also differ, so confirm the exact local model supports your carrier and payment needs. Xiaomi’s global REDMI specifications say a power adapter is not included; package contents may vary by country, so check the box contents for the specific listing. POCO identifies January 8, 2026 as the M8 5G launch date in its official support FAQ.
