If a Playwright full-page screenshot is too short, first check whether the document itself is short or whether the screenshot output differs from the page’s CSS-pixel height. Capture explicitly with fullPage: true and scale: 'css', then compare the document’s scroll height with the saved image dimensions. That separates missing or late-rendered page content from capture-option and pixel-scale issues.
Start with an explicit full-page capture
Playwright’s fullPage option defaults to false, which captures the visible viewport. Set it to true to request the full scrollable page. The scale option defaults to 'device'; setting it to 'css' makes the image use one pixel per CSS pixel, which makes height comparisons easier. See the Playwright Page API.

});Check that no clip rectangle is constraining the output to a fixed region. A clipped screenshot, a viewport screenshot, and a full-page screenshot are different capture goals.
Compare document height with the screenshot height
Measure the page immediately before capture. The document element and body can report different scroll heights, so inspect both rather than assuming one value represents every layout.

With CSS scale, its height should be comparable to the CSS-pixel document height, though page layout and browser rendering still determine what content exists to capture.
- If both DOM heights are already too small, investigate what the application rendered and whether content is ready.
- If DOM heights look correct but the file is unexpectedly short, isolate screenshot options, especially
fullPage,scale, andclip. - If the image is roughly a device-pixel multiple of the expected CSS height, check whether the default device scale is affecting the comparison.
Make sure the content exists before measuring
Do not treat an arbitrary delay as proof that a page is ready. Wait for the application state or element that signals the content you need. On a page that loads sections as the visitor scrolls, scroll through the document before measuring and capturing, then verify that the newly revealed content appeared.

Lazy loading and delayed rendering are page-specific possibilities, not universal Playwright defects. If scrolling does not reveal the missing content, inspect the application’s own loading conditions and rendered DOM.

A scrollable panel can have its own content and scroll position, separate from the document’s scrollable extent. Decide whether the intended result is the whole page or the panel. Playwright’s screenshot API documentation notes that a screenshot of a scrollable element shows only its currently scrolled content. An element screenshot does not automatically mean “capture every item inside this panel.”

- For a deliberately bounded rectangle, use
clip.
Keep the reproduction consistent
Set the intended viewport before navigation and keep it fixed while comparing runs. Playwright device emulation configures viewport-related parameters, and viewport settings can be overridden; see Playwright emulation. Rendering can also vary with the host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode, as Playwright explains in its visual comparison guidance. For a useful comparison, keep the browser and execution environment consistent with the baseline where possible.

- Only the visible screen was captured: pass
