Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is broader across Xbox consoles, Windows PC and supported devices, with a 500+ game library, day-one releases and bundled EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics benefits. Both include online multiplayer and changing game libraries, so neither is permanent ownership.
The better fit depends on your hardware, the games you actually play, whether classic PlayStation titles or day-one releases matter more, and whether cloud gaming works in your region. Check the live catalog before subscribing because titles, availability and terms can change.

What PlayStation Plus Premium includes
Online play and the lower-tier benefits
Premium includes everything Sony lists for the lower PlayStation Plus tiers. That means online multiplayer for games that require a membership, monthly games, exclusive discounts, exclusive content, cloud storage for saved data and Share Play. Monthly games require an active membership to keep playing them, and the membership continues until canceled under Sony’s subscription terms.

The Game Catalog
The Game Catalog is Sony’s main current-game library for Premium. Sony describes it as hundreds of games. You can download or stream eligible titles while they are included, but catalog membership is not a purchase of the individual games. Sony can change the catalog and can publish an end date for a particular title. If a game leaves, your Premium entitlement no longer provides access to it.
The Classics Catalog
Premium adds a Classics Catalog for older PlayStation generations. It is the clearest reason to choose Premium over a plan that offers only a contemporary rotating library. Sony identifies PS3 Classics as streaming-only; they cannot be downloaded to play locally. Other classic titles can have different download or streaming options, so check the individual game page rather than assuming every classic works the same way.
Game trials
Premium members receive timed game trials. A trial lets you evaluate a supported game for the permitted period before deciding whether to buy it. Trial availability and duration are title-specific, so Premium does not mean every new release has a trial.
Cloud streaming and compatible hardware
Sony lists Premium cloud streaming on PS4 and PS5 consoles and on PC. Selected games can also stream to PS5 and PlayStation Portal. Streaming is not available for every title, and Sony specifically notes that some games cannot be streamed. A compatible game, supported region and suitable account are all required.
Sony’s stated connection requirements are a minimum of 5 Mbps for cloud streaming and 15 Mbps for 1080p. Those figures describe the connection threshold, not a guarantee of image quality or latency; Wi-Fi congestion, distance from the service and other traffic can still affect play.

Included entertainment and account features
Sony lists Ubisoft+ Classics and a Sony Pictures Catalog among Premium benefits. The plan also includes cloud storage, Share Play, discounts and exclusive content. Availability of catalogues, content and promotions can vary by country and account, so the benefits page for your region controls what you can actually use.
US pricing
On the US membership page accessed October 13, 2026, Sony lists Premium at $19.99 for one month, $54.99 for three months and $159.99 for 12 months. These are US prices and may not match another country, a tax-inclusive checkout or a promotional offer. The subscription renews until you cancel it.

What Xbox Game Pass Ultimate includes
A 500-plus-game library
Xbox’s current US product page describes Ultimate as including a library of more than 500 games across Xbox console, PC and supported devices. The figure is Xbox’s own current catalog description, not an independently audited count. The number and the individual titles can change over time, by region, by platform and by plan.
Day-one games
Ultimate lists new games on day one. That is a stronger published new-release promise than the Premium benefits reviewed, but it is not a guarantee that every release appears everywhere: Xbox’s plan comparison notes exceptions, and platform, region and title availability still apply. Confirm the specific game’s listing before relying on day-one access.
Console, PC and supported-device access
The plan is designed for people who use more than one part of the Xbox ecosystem. Eligible games can be played on an Xbox console or Windows PC, while cloud play extends access to supported devices. A title may be available on one platform and absent on another, so inspect the platform labels for each game.

Cloud gaming
Xbox says cloud gaming requires a Game Pass subscription and a supported device. It is also subject to supported regions and plan conditions. Games that are playable in the cloud but are outside the Game Pass library must be purchased separately. Cloud play therefore expands where you can run an entitlement; it does not turn every cloud-playable game into an included game.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor devices without native Xbox controls, Xbox’s comparison information requires a supported controller and says it is sold separately. Check controller compatibility before treating a phone, tablet, smart TV or browser as a complete replacement for a console or PC.
Online console multiplayer
Ultimate includes online console multiplayer. Xbox separately states that multiplayer for free-to-play games is open to every Xbox player, so those games do not require Ultimate merely to access their online modes. Paid games with membership-required multiplayer still depend on the applicable Xbox online entitlement.
Bundled partner benefits
Xbox lists EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics with Ultimate, along with in-game benefits, rewards and discounts. These are bundled benefits as described by Xbox; their included content, redemption rules and regional availability can change. Read each benefit’s terms if a particular add-on is the reason you are considering Ultimate.
Xbox pricing and renewal
The official Xbox product view used for this comparison displayed the benefits but did not provide a standard US Ultimate price. Do not substitute an older announcement, a third-party listing or a different region’s checkout. Open the current Xbox purchase page while signed into the relevant account and compare the recurring price, taxes, promotional period and renewal terms shown there.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

How access, catalog changes and ownership work
Membership access is conditional
Neither subscription is a permanent game collection. Sony says an active membership is needed for monthly games and that catalog games can have end dates. Xbox says access ends when the membership expires or when a game leaves the library. Downloading a game does not convert it into an owned copy.
Catalogs differ by region and platform
A title can be listed for one country, console generation or PC storefront and not another. Streaming eligibility can also differ from download eligibility. Before subscribing for one specific game, check its current store page for your country, the exact platform you use and the membership badge that indicates inclusion.
Why a headline game can disappear
Publisher agreements, licensing windows and platform support can change. A game may rotate out even if it was advertised when you joined. If you are midway through a long game, note any published removal date and allow time to finish, buy the game separately or move to another included title.

What is available now
PlayStation’s published requirement is at least 5 Mbps for cloud streaming and 15 Mbps for 1080p, with some games excluded from streaming. Xbox cloud play requires a supported device, supported region and an eligible Game Pass subscription; cloud-playable games outside the library are sold separately. In both ecosystems, network stability matters as much as the advertised speed.

As of October 13, 2026, those limits are an announced upcoming policy, not an active cap. Which subscription fits different readers?
Choose Premium for a PlayStation-focused household
Premium is the natural starting point if your main hardware is a PS4 or PS5 and the games you want are in Sony’s Game Catalog. It is also the more targeted choice when older PlayStation software, timed trials or Sony’s own cloud-streaming options are central to your decision. The Classics Catalog and PS3 streaming distinction are especially relevant to retro-focused players.
Choose Ultimate for Xbox-and-PC flexibility
Ultimate fits someone who moves between an Xbox console and Windows PC, wants the broadest stated cross-device library, or values the published day-one release benefit. EA Play, Fortnite Crew, Ubisoft+ Classics and in-game benefits can add value when you already use those services, but verify the current terms before assigning them a monetary value.
Choose based on one must-play game
If one game is driving the purchase, search that game first. Confirm its inclusion, platform, download or cloud status, region and expected departure date. A cheaper annual commitment is poor value if the title you care about is unavailable or leaves before you finish it.
Choose streaming only after checking your setup
For Premium, test whether your connection meets Sony’s stated threshold and whether your target games support streaming. For Xbox, check device, region, controller and game eligibility. Streaming can save storage and let you play away from a console, but it is unsuitable if your connection is unstable or your preferred titles are download-only.
A practical decision checklist
- List your hardware: write down the exact PlayStation, Xbox, PC or other supported device you intend to use.
- List five target games: check each service’s live catalog, platform label and removal information for those titles.
- Mark your priorities: classify each as day-one access, classics, trials, online multiplayer, PC play, cloud streaming or bundled benefits.
- Verify regional terms: confirm the catalog, streaming support, partner benefits and price for your country, not a search result from another market.
- Compare the checkout total: use Sony’s displayed US Premium rates where applicable and the live Xbox checkout for Ultimate; include taxes, renewal price and any promotion end date.
- Decide how long you will play: use a monthly plan when your target games are short-term interests, and consider a longer term only after confirming continued catalog access.
- Check cloud prerequisites: verify connection speed, supported device, controller and whether your chosen games can stream.
- Set a cancellation reminder: both services are recurring subscriptions, and access changes when the membership ends.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Treating “500+ games” or “hundreds of games” as a permanent count: both figures describe changing catalogs.
- Assuming day-one means every release: Xbox lists exceptions and platform or regional restrictions still apply.
- Assuming every PlayStation classic downloads: Sony says PS3 Classics are streaming-only.
- Comparing an old Xbox price with today’s Sony price: the current Xbox standard US price must come from the live official checkout.
- Calling the November 2026 Xbox cloud allowance current: the 15-hour Ultimate allowance is scheduled to begin in November 2026, with further purchase details pending as of October 13.
- Forgetting free-to-play multiplayer rules: Xbox says free-to-play multiplayer is open to all Xbox players, while paid games can still require the relevant online benefit.
- Buying for a partner bundle without checking terms: EA Play, Fortnite Crew, Ubisoft+ Classics and other extras can vary by region, plan and time.
Bottom line
Premium is differentiated by PlayStation Classics, timed trials and Sony’s PlayStation-oriented streaming options. Ultimate is differentiated by cross-console-and-PC reach, a company-reported 500-plus-game library, day-one releases and its listed EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics benefits. Neither is a permanent library, and the right choice is the one that includes your actual games on your actual devices at the current regional price. Check those details immediately before subscribing.
