Choose title by title, not by platform slogans. Pick a PS5 when the games you most want are listed for PS5 and you want a dedicated console. Pick a PC when those games have an official PC release and you would rather play on a computer. PlayStation’s PC and console versions are separate products, saves do not currently transfer between them, and neither the reviewed official pages nor a generic specification establish a universal price or performance winner.
The practical answer: start with your must-play games
There is no permanent master list of “PlayStation games” that automatically answers this comparison. PlayStation maintains a catalog for PS5 and a separate catalog of PlayStation Studios games available on PC. A title can be listed for one platform, both platforms, or have a PC release planned for a later date. Catalog entries, release plans, prices and stock can change, so the useful question is not “Which platform is better?” but “Where can I play each game I care about, under the conditions I want?”

How to check whether a specific game is really available
1. Search the PS5 catalog
Open the PS5 games catalog and search for the title. A PS5 listing tells you that PlayStation presents that game for its console lineup; it does not tell you that a PC edition exists or that a PC edition will arrive.

- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
2. Search the PC catalog separately
Open the PC catalog and look for the exact title and edition. A game’s absence from the PC page is not proof that it will never come to PC. Conversely, a future-release entry is not a promise that the game is available today. Treat the page as a current status check and confirm the game’s own official listing near the time you buy.
3. Check region, edition and date
The cited catalogs are PlayStation’s US pages. Confirm that the release date, edition, language support, age rating and store availability apply to your country. A title may have different dates or products in another region.
4. Record the result before choosing hardware
Make a simple list with three columns: title, PS5 status and PC status. Mark each game as available now, announced for a future release, or not listed. Buy the platform that covers the titles you actually intend to play, rather than assuming every PlayStation Studios game follows the same release path.

Console and PC versions are separate purchases
PlayStation’s official PC FAQ is explicit: “Yes, the PC and console versions of PlayStation Studios games are different products.” The FAQ explains that purchasing one version does not grant an entitlement to the other. If you own a PS4 or PS5 copy and later decide to play the PC edition, budget for the PC product separately. Likewise, purchasing the PC edition does not give you a console copy.
PlayStation identifies Steam and Epic Games as digital PC purchase destinations. The retailer, edition, currency and price are title- and region-specific, so use the current store listing rather than an old price or a generalized platform assumption.
What this means for your library
- Existing console owner: Keep the console copy for PS4/PS5 play and treat a PC edition as a new product.
- PC-first buyer: Buy the PC edition from the current retailer listing if the title is officially available for PC.
- Considering both platforms: Count each version you would actually purchase; do not count on a single purchase covering both.
Save files do not currently move between the versions
PlayStation’s PC FAQ says saves cannot currently be transferred between the PS4/PS5 and PC versions of a PlayStation Studios game. That means a progression file created on console should not be treated as portable to PC, and a PC save should not be assumed to resume on PS5.
Make this decision before starting a long campaign. If keeping one continuous progression file is essential, select one platform for that title and remain on it. If you are comfortable beginning again, the separate products may still fit your preferences, but the new start is a practical cost of switching.
Questions to answer before buying a second copy
- Would you replay the game from the beginning on the second platform?
- Are trophies, settings or downloadable content tied to the particular product or account?
- Will you still have access to the original console if you decide not to repurchase?
The reviewed official FAQ establishes the separate-purchase and no-save-transfer rules. It does not establish a universal cross-progression exception, so do not promise one for an individual title without checking that title’s current support information.
Input options: mouse, keyboard and controllers
PlayStation’s PC catalog says PlayStation Studios PC games support multiple input types, including mouse and keyboard and controllers. Support is not identical across every game, so verify the controls for the title you intend to play.

Mouse and keyboard
A PC version may be the natural choice if you specifically want mouse-and-keyboard controls. That preference is not enough by itself: the game must support the devices, and the supported functions can vary by title. Check the game’s PC listing or support page for required mappings and any limitations.
DualSense on PC
PlayStation confirms that a DualSense wireless controller works with PlayStation Studios PC games by wired connection. Wireless operation and DualSense-specific features depend on the individual game. Do not assume that every PC release provides the same haptics, adaptive triggers or wireless behavior as the PS5 version.
| Input question | What is established | What remains title-specific |
|---|---|---|
| Can I use mouse and keyboard? | PlayStation Studios PC games support mouse and keyboard among their possible inputs | The exact controls and feature coverage for each game |
| Can I use a controller? | Supported controllers are available for PC games | Which models, button prompts and functions work in a particular release |
| Will DualSense work? | Wired DualSense use is confirmed | Wireless connectivity and DualSense-specific features |
PlayStation Plus on PC is streaming, not automatic PC ownership
PlayStation Plus on PC is a separate way to access supported games by streaming them. It should not be treated as proof that every PS5 game has a local Windows release, nor as a substitute for checking the PC catalog. Streaming also introduces requirements and restrictions that do not apply in the same way to a locally installed game.
Requirements listed by PlayStation Support
- A PlayStation Network account that meets the service’s eligibility requirements.
- A PlayStation Plus subscription that includes the PC streaming benefit for your region.
- Broadband internet with a minimum stated speed of 5 Mbps.
- A compatible controller.
- A compatible Windows PC and the PlayStation Plus PC application or method specified by current PlayStation Support instructions.
The 5 Mbps figure is a minimum service requirement, not a guarantee of image quality or stable play. Your connection’s consistency, latency, network congestion and local setup can affect the experience. Check the current PlayStation Plus on PC support page for operating-system and service details before subscribing.
Streaming limitations to plan around
- Party Chat is not available while using PlayStation Plus on PC, according to PlayStation Support.
- DLC and add-ons are not available for streamed catalog games.
- Streaming a catalog game does not give you a transferable console or local PC ownership entitlement.
Use streaming when the convenience of playing a supported catalog title on a computer outweighs those restrictions. If you need local installation, a specific add-on or unrestricted voice features, investigate the game’s PC product instead.
Total cost: why there is no honest universal winner
A PS5 comparison and a PC comparison only become meaningful when the inputs are specified. The reviewed official pages do not provide a current, like-for-like total-cost calculation or a benchmark showing that one platform is always cheaper. Prices vary by country, retailer, console edition, PC components, game edition, sales and accessories.

- Console side: Record the current PS5 edition and price in your region, plus any controller or storage you actually need.
- PC side: Identify the exact computer or parts, operating system, storage, controller and display you would buy. “A gaming PC” is not one fixed specification.
- Game side: Compare the same game edition and account for the separate PC purchase if you already own the console copy.
- Service side: Add any subscription or streaming cost that is necessary for your chosen use case.
- Time horizon: Decide whether you are comparing an upfront purchase, one year of ownership or several years. A result can change with that choice.
Do not present a retailer sale, a one-time allowance or an old launch price as a permanent platform advantage. Recheck prices and stock immediately before purchase.
Performance: compare a named PC with a named PS5, not labels
“PC” describes a range of hardware, while “PS5” identifies a console platform. A fair performance comparison therefore needs a specific PC configuration, the same game, the same settings and a defined test. The reviewed official material contains no current benchmark that ranks the two platforms generally.
Questions for a useful performance comparison
- Which processor, graphics hardware, memory and storage does the PC use?
- Which resolution, frame-rate target and graphics settings are being compared?
- Is the test measuring the same game edition and the same scene or workload?
- Are drivers, patches and operating-system versions current?
- Is the goal a fixed console experience or the ability to adjust settings on a computer?
Without those details, statements such as “PC is faster” or “PS5 is cheaper for the same performance” are too broad to be reliable. Choose based on a real configuration and the games you will play.

Decision paths for different kinds of players
Choose PS5 when the console catalog is your priority
- Your must-play titles are currently listed for PS5 and are not available on PC in the form you want.
- You prefer a dedicated device rather than selecting or maintaining computer hardware.
- You want to stay on one console save for a title and do not intend to switch versions.
- You want to use the PS5 version’s controller and console features without checking a separate PC implementation.
Confirm the exact PS5 listing, edition, release timing and local availability before buying.

- Your chosen titles have current official PC releases.
- You prefer mouse-and-keyboard input or want to use a supported controller on a computer.
- You already own, or plan to buy, a computer that meets the game’s requirements.
- You accept that a PC copy is a separate product and that the console save will not currently transfer.
Check whether the title is sold through Steam, Epic Games or another retailer identified by its official listing, then verify the edition and requirements.
Choose streaming only when its limits fit
- The game is included in the supported streaming catalog in your region.
- Your broadband connection meets the stated minimum and is stable enough for your use.
- You have a compatible controller.
- You can live without Party Chat and without DLC or add-ons for streamed catalog games.
A five-minute pre-purchase checklist
- Write down the three games you are most likely to play in the next year.
- Check each title in both the PS5 and PC catalogs on PlayStation’s official pages.
- Label every title as available now, future release or not listed, and note the date checked.
- For any title you already own on console, assume a separate PC purchase unless the current official product page says otherwise.
- Plan as though saves will stay on their original platform; PlayStation’s current FAQ does not support transfer between the versions.
- Choose your preferred input and verify the game’s specific support, including wired DualSense requirements if relevant.
- If considering PlayStation Plus on PC, confirm the account, subscription, 5 Mbps minimum broadband, controller and stated restrictions.
- Compare current regional prices using a named PS5 edition and a named PC configuration.
- Recheck release dates, retailer listings, stock and service rules immediately before paying.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming every PlayStation title is a permanent console exclusive
The PC catalog changes, and the absence of a title today does not establish a permanent exclusion. Use current catalog information and the game’s official page rather than an old list.
Assuming one purchase unlocks both versions
The official FAQ identifies PC and console editions as different products. Budget and plan accordingly.
Assuming cloud or account data will follow you
PlayStation says saves cannot currently transfer between PS4/PS5 and PC versions of a PlayStation Studios title. Keep your primary progression on the platform you intend to use.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTreating streaming as a full PC release
PlayStation Plus on PC streams supported games and has its own requirements and restrictions. It does not establish that every streamed title is available as a locally installed PC product.
Using a generic cost or performance claim
Prices, hardware and games must be specified. Without a region, date, PC configuration and game, a universal ranking is not supported.
Bottom line for your platform choice
Make the decision around your actual game list. A PS5 is the straightforward choice when the titles you care about are on the current PS5 catalog and you want a dedicated console. A PC is the practical choice when those titles have official PC versions and you prefer computer hardware, mouse-and-keyboard input or supported controller options. Treat each PC edition as a separate purchase, keep in mind that saves do not currently transfer between console and PC versions, and use PlayStation Plus streaming only if its technical requirements and restrictions suit you.
Because catalogs, dates, prices, stock and service rules change, perform the same title-by-title check again when you are ready to buy.
