Player Location Check is a location-verification helper used by some online lottery, sportsbook and casino services. It helps a participating operator check whether you are physically in a place where its service is permitted. It is not a built-in Windows gaming feature, and whether you need it depends on the operator and your jurisdiction.
What Player Location Check does
When an operator requires a location check, its website may ask you to install or run a GeoComply plug-in on your Windows PC. The service uses the check to determine whether your location meets its rules. For example, the Georgia Lottery says computer users need Player Location Check software to make online lottery purchases, while DraftKings describes its own GeoComply PC plug-in.

The location estimate is not necessarily based on Windows GPS. PartyCasino describes using an IP address and Wi-Fi triangulation to estimate coordinates. The precise process and requirements can vary by operator.

You only need Player Location Check if the lottery or gaming service you are using requires it. Start from that operator’s official support page or the prompt on its website; do not seek out an installer from an unrelated download site. Check the operator’s rules for your location before troubleshooting, since availability and verification requirements differ.

For DraftKings, the help center says the plug-in should download automatically when required, though users may need to add, remove or restart it while troubleshooting. Use the operator’s current instructions for the supported installation and removal steps; the available guidance does not establish a universal Windows version number or a complete compatibility list.
Why location verification may fail
A failure does not identify one universal cause. Check the parts of your setup that can affect the operator’s location check:

- Windows location access: Confirm Location Services are enabled in Windows.
- Browser permission: Check that your browser allows the operator’s website to access location.
- Wi-Fi: Turn on Wi-Fi if the operator’s method relies on nearby wireless signals, even if the PC uses a wired internet connection.
- VPN, proxy or remote session: These conditions can interfere with location checks. Georgia Lottery’s FAQ notes that corporate proxy settings may require an administrator’s help; Microsoft troubleshooting discussions also raise VPN and remote-session conditions.
- Operator installation state: Follow the operator’s directions to install, restart or remove its helper.
- Recent network change: If the problem began after changing internet providers or connections, tell the operator’s support team. A reported case after an ISP change does not establish that changing providers is generally the cause.
These are sensible checks, not guaranteed fixes; the exact cause depends on your operator and setup. A Microsoft Q&A user reported the message “Your location cannot be determined due to insufficient data. Please verify that your device’s Location Services and Wi-Fi are enabled”; that is a user-reported error, not a universal official message.

Not every desktop needs Wi-Fi hardware, but a location check that uses nearby wireless signals may work poorly if the PC cannot detect them. PartyCasino says a Wi-Fi USB adapter may help an older desktop that lacks wireless capability or cannot detect nearby signals. It is a conditional option, not a requirement or a guaranteed fix; check your operator’s instructions first.

How to restart Player Location Check on DraftKings
DraftKings provides this restart route for its PC plug-in:
- Open Windows Task Manager.
- Find the Player Location Check task and end it.
- Return to DraftKings and let the plug-in reopen when prompted or required.
For another operator, use that service’s own restart instructions rather than assuming the DraftKings steps apply.

What to send operator support
If the checks above do not resolve the problem, contact the operator—not a generic PC repair service—with enough detail to narrow down what changed:

- The exact error text or a screenshot.
- Your Windows version, browser and the operator’s name.
- Whether Wi-Fi is enabled and whether you are using a VPN, proxy or remote session.
- Any recent network or ISP change, and whether verification behaves differently on another connection.
