Pixel Weather is no longer just a planned feature: it includes notifications, a six-hour precipitation Weather Map, and an AI Weather Report. The app is available on Pixel 6 and later phones and Pixel Tablet, but the map and AI report have narrower country, device, and language limits.
These features were first found in a pre-release app build in August 2024, so they were not guaranteed at the time. Google later launched the redesigned app with the Pixel 9 series and now documents its availability and setup.
What was announced and what shipped?
An August 2024 report found notification prompts, a precipitation alert, an evening forecast notification, a Weather Map, AI Weather Summaries, and other interface options by inspecting and sideloading a pre-release app. Those findings showed features in development, not a Google product announcement or a promise that every feature would ship. 9to5Google’s original report noted that APK findings can be incomplete or misinterpreted.
Google announced the redesigned Pixel Weather app with the Pixel 9 family on August 13, 2024, describing a custom AI weather report generated with Gemini Nano. The app and the features covered here subsequently shipped. Google’s Pixel 9 announcement provides the original launch context.

Which devices can use Pixel Weather?
Google lists Pixel 6 and later phones, as well as Pixel Tablet, as compatible with Pixel Weather. That is compatibility with the app, not a guarantee that every feature works on every supported device. In particular, the AI Weather Report has stricter device and language requirements.

Turn on Pixel Weather notifications
Google’s documented setup is in Android Settings. To receive precipitation notifications, Google says to enable all Pixel Weather notification categories; the exact categories offered can vary.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then select Pixel Weather.
- Tap Notifications.
- Enable the Pixel Weather notification categories you want. Enable all Pixel Weather notifications if you want precipitation notifications.
The original pre-release build included a planned alert for expected rain or snow and an evening forecast for the following day. The current Google Play listing also advertises severe-weather warnings and weather-forecast alarms. Do not assume every alert type appears identically on every device or in every market.

If you receive duplicate weather notifications, check both Pixel Weather and the Google app under Settings → Apps → Notifications. On some older Pixel phones, Google app weather forecasts may overlap with Pixel Weather alerts. The category names can vary; rollout reporting identified the Google app’s “Weather forecasts” notification as a possible duplicate source.
What the Weather Map shows
The Weather Map is a precipitation-focused forecast, not a promise of a full professional radar tool. Google describes it as a six-hour precipitation forecast powered by the same model used for Google nowcasting. You can pan around and use the timeline at the bottom to see how precipitation is expected to change.
Google documents availability in the United States, the United Kingdom, most European countries, and parts of Canada, with country-specific exceptions. The support page specifically excludes Italy and Luxembourg from its broad availability description and lists the current supported markets. Check that list rather than assuming the map is available worldwide.
- Open Pixel Weather and look for the Weather Map in the app.
- Pan to the area you want to check.
- Use the timeline at the bottom to review the precipitation forecast across the available six-hour period.
If the map is missing, check Google’s supported-country list, update Pixel Weather through Google Play, confirm you have an internet connection and location access, and reopen the app. Availability can depend on market or rollout; the map should not be treated as a complete radar replacement.

The AI Weather Report summarizes the forecast for a selected location. Google documents it for Pixel 9 and later in English, German, and Japanese, and for Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 9a in English. Owning a compatible Pixel Weather app device, such as a Pixel 6 or Pixel 7, does not by itself mean the AI report is supported.
Google says the AI report may disappear when an extreme or dangerous weather alert is present; the alert takes priority. Treat the report as a convenience summary, not a replacement for emergency alerts or local weather authorities.
Turn off the AI Weather Report
- Open Pixel Weather and go to Saved locations.
- Tap the profile icon.
- Tap AI Weather Report.
- Choose the option to turn it off. Wording may vary by language or software version.
Personal weather insights are a separate feature
Pixel Weather’s standard AI Weather Report is different from Magic Cue’s personal weather insights. Google describes those insights as weather information connected to upcoming events and locations, using relevant information from apps such as Calendar and Gmail.
Google documents personal weather insights for Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL, with availability limited to the United States in English and Japan in Japanese. Users must be over 18 and enable the relevant Magic Cue permissions. The feature generally concerns events within the next 10 days. These requirements do not apply to the standard AI Weather Report.

Other Pixel Weather features
Google’s Play listing also describes multiple saved locations, precipitation forecasts, severe-weather warnings, customizable weather cards, AI-generated weather backgrounds, forecast alarms, and personal weather insights. Google warns that feature availability varies by device, region, and language. The support page also documents a 10-day forecast, air quality, humidity, pollen count, rearrangeable weather blocks, and temperature and weather-unit controls.
Immersive weather animations and vibrations are available on Pixel 8 and later, but Google says they are unavailable in Battery Saver mode. This affects those presentation features, not the core forecast.

Pixel Weather is a practical first-party option if you have a supported Pixel and want saved locations, precipitation alerts, and a quick view of the coming precipitation. Its features are not uniform across devices or countries.
If you need professional-grade radar, storm-cell analysis, lightning data, or highly configurable alert thresholds, a dedicated weather app may be a better fit. The Weather Map is a six-hour precipitation forecast, not a substitute for every specialist weather tool.

Why is the Weather Map missing from Pixel Weather?
The map is limited to supported markets, and availability can also depend on app rollout or a temporary service issue. Check the country list on Google’s support page, update the app, and confirm your connection before assuming the feature is unsupported.
Why don’t I see the AI Weather Report?
Check your Pixel model and language against Google’s documented limits. The report may also be absent while an extreme or dangerous-weather alert takes precedence. App compatibility on Pixel 6 and later does not mean the AI report is supported on every model.
How do I get precipitation notifications?
