If your Google Pixel rings or otherwise responds while its screen stays black, the phone may still be running—but those signs do not identify the cause. Check charging and restart it first. If it rings after Google’s restart steps but the display remains blank, Google recommends contacting an authorized repair center.
Does the phone still respond?
A black screen can mean the Pixel is out of power or unresponsive, but it can also happen while the phone continues to run. Ringing, vibration, or audio suggests the device is responding; it does not prove which display component, if any, has failed. Start with checks that do not erase data.

Check charging and power safely
- Connect the Pixel to a known-working USB-C cable and power adapter, and check that the outlet and connections work.
- Remove the case or any attachment that could interfere with the charging connection.
- If the phone may be fully drained and was off for a long time, leave it connected. Google says it may take up to 25 minutes to show a charging icon, vibrate, or display any response.

- Hold the Power button for about 35 seconds.
- Wait about two minutes for the phone to restart.
- Call the phone or use Find Hub to make it ring, then check whether the display is still blank.
These are Google’s current general steps; follow the instructions on its support page if they differ for your device or region. If the Pixel rings but the screen remains blank, Google’s advice is to contact a local authorized repair center.

Choose the next step based on what happens

Do not reset the phone as a first screen fix
Google’s manual Fastboot reset is optional and erases all device data. A reset is not a sensible first step when you cannot use the display, especially if important data is not backed up. Back up first if you can, and review Google’s instructions and warnings before considering a reset. A destructive reset is not a guaranteed fix for a display fault.

Screen assemblies and repair options depend on the exact Pixel generation and location. Identify the model before ordering a replacement display or following model-specific repair instructions. Google’s Pixel Update and Software Repair tool supports particular software and update procedures; its existence does not establish that software can fix a hardware display fault. For a blank screen that persists while the phone responds, use Google’s repair route rather than assuming a software tool or replacement part will solve it.
