The original Pixel Buds Pro is worth considering only if you can find it at a meaningfully lower current price and are content without those Pro 2 features. Google’s figures are estimates, and this is a specification-based comparison—not a verdict on which earbuds sound or fit better.
How the specifications compare
| Feature | Pixel Buds Pro | Pixel Buds Pro 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Battery with ANC on | Up to 7 hours per earbud; up to 20 hours total with the case | Up to 8 hours per earbud; up to 30 hours total with the case |
| Battery with ANC off | Up to 11 hours per earbud; up to 31 hours total with the case | Up to 12 hours per earbud; up to 48 hours total with the case |
| Noise control | Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), Transparency mode, and Conversation Detection | ANC with Silent Seal 2.0, Transparency mode, Adaptive mode, Dynamic ANC, and Conversation Detection |
| Bluetooth version listed by Google | Bluetooth 5.0 | Bluetooth 5.4 |
| Water resistance | Comparable rating not stated in the retrieved Google specifications | Earbuds: IP54; case: IPX4 |
| Sound and fit comparison | Not independently tested here | Not independently tested here |
Battery figures are Google’s “up to” estimates. Google says actual battery life varies with the device, enabled features, use, environment, and other factors. See Google’s Pixel Buds specifications for the published figures.

Battery life: Pro 2 has the higher published estimates
With ANC on, Google estimates up to 8 hours from Pro 2 earbuds and 30 hours total with the charging case; the original Pro is listed at up to 7 hours and 20 hours, respectively. With ANC off, the estimates are 12 hours per earbud and 48 hours total for Pro 2, versus 11 hours and 31 hours for the original.
Those are maximum manufacturer estimates, not a promise of runtime in every situation. If long stretches between charges matter to you, the Pro 2’s higher figures are a useful advantage on paper; your results depend on how you use the earbuds.
#1 Best Overall
- Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are designed to be the most comfortable earbuds yet, with a twist-to-adjust fit; they’re built for Gemini, with the Tensor chip that powers premium, immersive sound and cancels twice as much noise as before[1]
- Pixel Buds Pro 2 are made to stay put; use the twist-to-adjust stabilizer to lock your earbuds in during workouts, or adjust the other way for all-day comfort
- Active Noise Cancellation with Silent Seal 2.0 cancels up to twice as much noise as before[1]; Adaptive Audio lets you be aware of your surroundings while drowning out distractions in loud spaces for comfortable listening[10]
- Immerse yourself in clear, crisp audio; the 11 mm drivers and high-frequency chamber deliver powerful bass and smooth treble, and spatial audio with head tracking give you immersive surround sound[2]
- Go live with Gemini, your Google AI assistant; brainstorm ideas, make grocery lists, and schedule events, just by using your voice – with advanced audio processing, you can have clear conversations, even in noisy environments[2,11]
Noise control: what Pro 2 adds
Both models offer ANC and Transparency mode, which lets outside sound through. Both also support Conversation Detection. Pro 2 adds Adaptive mode and Dynamic ANC, features Google identifies as exclusive to that model. If you specifically want those newer noise-control options, the original Pro does not offer an equivalent feature set. Google’s feature availability guidance is on its ANC and Adaptive Audio support page.
Bluetooth pairing is not the same as full feature access
Google lists Bluetooth 5.0 for the original Pro and Bluetooth 5.4 for Pro 2. For Pro 2, Google says pairing is supported with Bluetooth 4.0 or newer devices, including iPhones, tablets, and laptops. But pairing does not guarantee access to every Google feature: full feature access requires a Google Account, an internet connection, and a companion Android phone running Android 6.0 or newer. Check Google’s Pro 2 specifications if you are weighing it for a non-Android device.
Rank #2
- Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are designed to be the most comfortable earbuds ever, with the most secure fit; and they’re built for Google AI, with the Tensor chip that powers premium, immersive sound
- Pixel Buds Pro 2 are small, light, and made to stay put; use the twist-to-adjust stabilizer to lock your earbuds in during workouts, or adjust the other way for all-day comfort
- The first Google Tensor chip in an earbud, the Tensor A1 chip powers twice the Active Noise Cancellation and delivers premium sound[1]
- Conversation Detection pauses your music and switches your earbuds to Transparency mode when you start talking, so you don’t have to take them out
- Pixel Buds Pro 2 have large 11mm drivers for powerful bass and a new high-frequency chamber for smooth treble
Water resistance: a Pro 2 rating is published
Google rates the Pro 2 earbuds IP54 and the charging case IPX4. The specifications reviewed do not establish a directly comparable rating for the original Pro, so these figures do not support a head-to-head claim that one model is more water-resistant.

The original Pro may be the better value if it is substantially cheaper and its feature set meets your needs. However, current stock and pricing for both models can change, and availability of the original Pro is not established here. Check the listings where you plan to buy before deciding.

No independent head-to-head listening or fit test is established by the sources used for this comparison. Sound preference, comfort, and how well ANC works for you are personal considerations; if any of those are decisive, seek an independent comparison or try the fit where possible.
