To make useful Pixel tools easier to remember, surface the ones that match a routine you already have: recording spoken notes, checking digital habits, or keeping key information visible. The five picks below include two standalone apps, one Settings feature, and two built-in Pixel features—not five apps you can all pin in the same way.
Choose what to surface, not just what to install
Pixel’s useful software is spread across apps, Settings, and home- or lock-screen features. Before adding anything, decide what you want to remember to do. A shortcut helps when it removes a step from a real routine; a feature that works in the background may not need a separate icon.

Recorder: make spoken notes searchable
Recorder is the clearest choice if you often capture meetings, interviews, or ideas aloud and later need to find a detail. Google’s June 1, 2020 announcement described starting, stopping, and searching recordings, and said transcripts could be saved to Google Docs. That announcement is historical documentation, not a guarantee that every function, language, or interface is available on every current Pixel.
If you already use Recorder, placing its app icon where you can reach it quickly can reduce the friction of starting a recording. Check the app on your own phone for current transcription and export options before relying on them for an important workflow. Personal Safety: prepare tools before you need them
Personal Safety is worth making easy to reach if you want to set up or use supported options such as Safety Check, Emergency Sharing, or Emergency SOS-related features. The practical value comes from configuring what is available on your device in advance, rather than assuming an app icon alone provides protection.
Google cautions that emergency features can depend on connectivity and other factors, may not be available in every area, and may not reliably communicate in an emergency. Digital Wellbeing: put usage controls within reach
Digital Wellbeing lives in Settings, but Google documents an option to show its icon in the app list. Its tools include app-usage information, app timers, Focus mode, and Heads Up. This is a good candidate if you intend to check your usage or actively use one of those controls, rather than merely hoping that seeing an icon will change a habit.

Now Playing: notice music without opening a music app
Now Playing is a Pixel feature, not a standalone app to pin. It can identify music playing nearby and show song information on the home screen. If you often hear a song you want to identify, knowing where that information appears—and whether a history view is available on your phone—may make the feature more useful than adding another icon.
Check the current Now Playing settings and interface on your Pixel, since the available controls can depend on the device and software. Google describes the feature in its Pixel privacy and security information.

Pick the one you will actually use
- Choose Recorder if you routinely capture spoken information and later need to search it.
- Choose Personal Safety if you want to configure supported safety options in advance, while understanding their limitations.
- Choose Digital Wellbeing if you will check usage or use a specific control and want its icon visible in the app list.
- Take advantage of Now Playing if identifying nearby music is a recurring need; it is a feature, not a pin-able app.
- Configure At a Glance if selected updates on the home or lock screen would help; it is already part of the screen experience, not a separate app.
Start with one change tied to a recognizable moment in your day. The aim is not to fill the home screen, but to make the right tool easier to reach when its use naturally comes up.
