The four differences implied by this comparison depend on which flagship phone I own now, its software version, and what I mean by “can’t do quite like” my old Pixel 7. What can be established is the Pixel 7 context—and how to make this a fair, reproducible comparison rather than a list of unsupported claims.
What this comparison can—and can’t—establish
Google announced the Pixel 7 with Android 13 and its Tensor G2 chip in 2022. That launch context identifies the older phone, but it says nothing about the unnamed flagship on the other side of the comparison. Without that model, its software version, region, and the four specific tasks, there is no sound basis for saying which functions are missing or behave differently.

The phrase “can’t do quite like” also matters: a phone may offer a similar function through a different interface, an app, or extra steps. That is a difference in implementation, not necessarily a missing capability.

Google also grouped Direct My Call with Call Screen, Wait Times, and Hold For Me in its Pixel 7 calling and messaging announcement. These sources document launch-era features; they do not establish current availability everywhere or on every software version.

Google’s Pixel specifications page lists At a Glance and Now Playing among Pixel features and includes Pixel 7 specifications: Google Pixel phone specifications. That confirms Pixel feature context, not that an unnamed competing phone cannot provide comparable information or music recognition.

How to check four claimed differences fairly
For each task, compare what happens on the same two phones under stated conditions. Record the exact model and software version, since feature behavior can vary by model, update, country, and language.

- Name both devices and versions. Record the current flagship’s full model, Android version, and relevant app versions, alongside the Pixel 7’s software and app versions.
- Describe the task, not just the feature label. For example, specify whether the comparison is about viewing automated call-menu choices or about an image-editing result. Avoid calling a feature absent until you have checked the equivalent task.
- Run the same task on each phone. Note whether the function is built in or needs an app, how many steps it takes, and whether it works under the same network, language, and regional conditions.
- Separate unavailable from different. State whether the other phone lacks the capability, offers a different implementation, or simply takes more steps. If behavior depends on an account, connection, or setting, record that too.
- Attach evidence to the specific claim. Use the relevant manufacturer documentation for availability, and make clear when a point is an owner’s observation rather than a general fact about all phones of that model.
What a defensible four-point comparison needs
A useful personal comparison should identify the current phone and give each difference its own concrete example: what I tried, what the Pixel 7 did, what the newer phone did instead, and the conditions under which I tested it. Without those details, the four supposed differences cannot be verified or reliably reproduced.
