The Pixel 10a uses a much newer processor generation than the Pixel 6, but the available sources do not establish exactly how much faster it is in everyday use. Google lists Tensor G4 in the 10a and the original Tensor in the Pixel 6; both have 8 GB of RAM. There is no controlled, same-conditions benchmark comparison of these two phones here, so a precise speed advantage—or a claim that they perform about the same—would go beyond the evidence.
What the specifications say about performance
| Specification | Pixel 6 | Pixel 10a |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Google Tensor, the original generation (Google Pixel phone hardware tech specs) | Tensor G4 (Google Pixel phone hardware tech specs) |
| Memory | 8 GB LPDDR5 (Google Pixel 6 One Pager) | 8 GB (Google Pixel phone hardware tech specs) |
| Storage options | 128 GB or 256 GB UFS 3.1 (Google Pixel 6 One Pager) | 128 GB or 256 GB (Google Pixel phone hardware tech specs) |
| Display refresh rate | Up to 90 Hz (Google Pixel 6 One Pager) | 60–120 Hz (Google Pixel phone hardware tech specs) |
The newer Tensor generation is a meaningful hardware difference, but a processor name alone cannot tell you the size of an everyday speed gain. Equal RAM capacity also does not mean equal app performance or multitasking: software, processor design, graphics hardware, and workload all matter. The displays’ different refresh-rate ranges can affect how smooth scrolling looks, but they are not CPU or GPU benchmark results.
What the available benchmarks do—and do not—show
Android Central’s 2026 Pixel 10a review reports Geekbench 6 scores of 1,694 single-core and 4,501 multi-core. In that review, the Pixel 9a scores 1,707 and 4,512 respectively, leading the reviewer to describe the two newer phones as performing about the same in those benchmark tests. That is useful context for the 10a, but it is not a Pixel 6 comparison. (Android Central’s Pixel 10a review)
The same review reports a Pixel 10a Geekbench AI CPU quantized score of 3,109 and a 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Unlimited result of 2,667 points at 15.97 fps. These are additional results for the 10a, not matched results against the Pixel 6. (Android Central’s Pixel 10a review)

A separate Geekbench Browser submission for a Pixel 10a, uploaded July 28, 2026, reports 1,509 single-core and 3,152 multi-core in Geekbench 6.7.1 on Android 17 and identifies the Tensor G4. It is one submitted run, not a model average or a direct Pixel 6 test. Its difference from the review’s scores is a reminder that results from separate runs should not be treated as a stable, directly comparable measure. (Geekbench Browser result)
To establish a meaningful speed difference, both phones would need testing under comparable benchmark versions, software, temperatures, battery conditions, and settings. Without that head-to-head evidence, combining numbers from separate reviews or submissions to calculate a percentage uplift would be misleading.

Will the Pixel 10a feel faster in everyday use?
The sources establish newer silicon in the 10a, but they do not measure matched app launches, multitasking, gaming, or sustained performance under heat on both phones. They therefore cannot settle whether a particular user will notice a large difference, or whether the two phones feel equally responsive in daily use. Gaming and sustained workloads especially should not be inferred from a CPU score alone.
One specific capability caveat comes from Android Central’s reviewer: the Pixel 10a’s 8 GB RAM and Tensor G4 do not support mainline Gemini Nano models, which limits certain on-device AI features. The review distinguishes those from cloud-based features; this is the reviewer’s assessment of the 10a, not a direct comparison of all AI functions with the Pixel 6. How software support changes the upgrade decision
Performance is only one reason to replace a five-year-old phone. Google’s original Pixel 6 materials promised at least five years of security updates. Google’s current Pixel 10a specifications list seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates, measured from when the phone first became available on the Google Store in the US. This is a difference in stated support horizons; those figures alone do not establish an exact Pixel 6 support end date or guarantee how fast the 10a will feel over time. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Pixel 10a worth upgrading to for performance?
If your decision depends on a proven, substantial speed increase, the available evidence is not enough to promise one: there is no controlled Pixel 6-versus-10a benchmark here. The 10a is the newer hardware platform, and its longer listed support horizon may matter if you want a newer phone for the years ahead. For a performance-only decision, look for direct tests of both models under comparable conditions and prioritize the workload you care about—such as games, multitasking, or everyday app use—rather than relying on a processor-generation label alone.
