How do I get my photography mojo back?
Start with a prompt that gives you direction without turning photography into another large obligation. Adobe recommends using a theme to shape a project; a series or story can give the pictures a sense of connection. Try one place, one person, a color, a daily walk, changing light, or a small local subject. The examples are starting points, not rules: the useful prompt is one you can return to and notice something new in.

Keep the commitment realistic. A project can be a handful of images rather than a daily challenge or a complete record of a subject. If you are unsure what to photograph, look for a repeatable detail—how a familiar street changes through the day, for example—and let the theme narrow your choices.

How do I manage all the pictures from a photo project?
1. Gather the candidates before trying to perfect the archive
Create one broad album or folder for the project and bring likely images together. If the pictures are already scattered across devices or folders, gather a workable group first rather than attempting to redesign your entire photo library. Library of Congress archivists recommend broad initial groupings and caution against getting bogged down by individual items too early. As senior archivist Laura Kells puts it, “You’ll scare yourself if you think, ‘I have two hundred things.’ The project will seem bigger.”
2. Choose the strongest images and label only what helps
Review the candidates and mark the images that best fit the prompt. Use a project name, dates, a few useful keywords, flags, or ratings—whichever tools your photo app supports and you will actually use. A combination can help: the project album keeps the set together, while dates or a small number of keywords can make individual pictures easier to retrieve later. You do not need elaborate tags for every file.

There is no single organization system that suits every photographer. Adobe’s guidance describes options including dates, subjects, events, places, albums, folders, ratings, flags, and metadata. Choose a small number of consistent methods rather than adding categories you will not maintain. 3. Keep the project files together
Use meaningful names and a simple folder structure so the project makes sense when you return to it. If your software uses linked project components, move them through the application rather than relocating pieces in a file manager. Adobe warns that moving Photoshop Elements project components outside Organizer can break their links; its Photoshop Elements project basics explains the application-specific approach. Where should I store the project photos?
The choice is not simply “local or cloud”: decide where the originals live, how you will access them, and what counts as a separate recoverable copy. Local, cloud-centric, and hybrid workflows can all work. Check the actual service or application behavior—especially what is synced, what happens after deletion or changes, and how recovery works—before relying on it as a backup.

How do I make sure the pictures are recoverable?
Keep another copy of the project, not just the working set. The Library of Congress recommends backups on two different storage media and in two different physical places. For example, a local working library plus an external hard drive stored separately can be part of a plan; a cloud copy may also help, but verify whether it is independent of the files and account you rely on. No particular drive, capacity, or service is prescribed by this guidance.

What should I do with the finished series?
Give the project an endpoint that suits the pictures. You might sequence a small gallery, share a selection, or turn it into a photo book, greeting card, calendar, or collage. Those are possible formats, not obligations. The point is to make the work visible to you—or to other people—so the project feels complete and gives you a reason to start another.
What if the project includes prints or negatives?
For physical photographs, the Library of Congress recommends polyethylene or polypropylene sleeves and photo corners rather than adhesive. Valuable originals may need suitable storage and handling; consult its photographs frequently asked questions for preservation guidance. This is care for physical originals, separate from organizing digital project files.
