If the glitch continues, check whether it is limited to one app, appears while charging, affects touch in one spot, or began after damage. Those clues help choose a safe next step, but they do not identify a failed component.
First, identify what the screen is doing
“Glitching” can mean several different symptoms: the image flickers or flashes; the display jumps or shows artifacts; or touch input fails, jumps, or acts on its own. Note when it happens: only in one app, while charging, across the whole interface, or after a drop or liquid exposure. This context can help narrow the next check without serving as a diagnosis.

Try the safe checks that apply to any phone
- Remove anything covering the display. Take off the case and screen protector, and remove gloves or stickers covering the screen or sensors. Check for cracks or chips. Google recommends these checks for Android screens, and Apple recommends removing cases and protectors when troubleshooting an iPhone or iPad. Google’s Android screen guidance and Apple’s screen guidance provide device-specific advice.
- Clean and dry the display. Wipe away debris and make sure the screen is free of water. If the device has been exposed to liquid, do not assume a software change will resolve the problem.
- Disconnect accessories and restart. Unplug connected accessories, then restart the phone. If disconnecting an accessory changes the behavior while charging, Apple suggests trying a different outlet, cable, or charger. Use equipment appropriate for your device.
- Install available updates. Check for system and app updates using the phone maker’s instructions. Menus and labels vary by model and software version. Samsung lists temporary system errors, outdated software, app compatibility, display settings, and physical damage among possible factors in abnormal display behavior; its guidance is specific to Galaxy devices.
On Android, check whether an app is involved
Safe mode temporarily disables downloaded apps, though the way to enter it varies by manufacturer. Follow the instructions for your exact phone model. If the screen works normally in safe mode, Google says an app is most likely causing the issue. Restart normally, then uninstall recently added apps one at a time, testing the screen after each removal. If the symptom remains in safe mode, that does not by itself prove a hardware fault.

Check whether touch failure repeats in one area
If touch input is the problem, Google describes a simple triage check: drag from the top-left toward the bottom-right without lifting your finger. If the notification shade releases at the same location when you repeat the motion, contact the device manufacturer. A repeatable failure point is useful information for support, not a definitive diagnosis of a particular component.
Use the symptom to choose the next step

When to reset—and when to get service
Factory reset is a later option
A factory reset erases local data and installed apps. Back up the phone first and make sure you understand how to restore it. Consider a reset only after simpler checks; it may not fix a physical display fault. Google and ASUS both describe reset and escalation guidance, including the data-loss risk: Google Android Help and ASUS support.

Arrange an assessment for persistent or damage-related symptoms
Seek manufacturer or suitable authorized service if the display remains unreliable after basic checks, the same area repeatedly fails to register touch, or the issue followed physical damage. Apple says service may be needed if its troubleshooting does not resolve screen touch problems; Google directs unresolved issues to the manufacturer or carrier, and Samsung warns that impact damage can prevent normal operation. Use the service route appropriate to your exact model and location: Apple, Google Android Help, and Samsung.

Charging-linked flicker is a specific context, not a general explanation for every glitch. Xiaomi’s advice about flashing after charging to 80% discusses overheating, battery health, chargers, safe mode, updates, and escalation, but does not establish a universal cause: Xiaomi’s charging-specific guidance.
