The power button on a Philips Smart TV can be on the side, underneath the lower edge, or on the back. Its exact location and function depend on the model. Check those areas for a small button or joystick marked with a power symbol, then confirm the control in the manual for your TV’s model number.
Where to look for the power button
Inspect the TV’s side edges, the underside of the bottom edge, and the rear panel. Philips manuals for different sets show controls in different positions, including the right side, bottom, back, and, on some diagrams, the left side or lower-left rear edge. There is no single location that applies to every Philips Smart TV. Philips user manuals show the control for the specific model.

What the TV-body control does
On some models, the physical control is a joystick that can switch the TV off and navigate or select items in the on-screen menu. Its operation varies: one Philips manual describes pressing the joystick to switch the TV off, while another directs users to the joystick at the bottom of the TV. The remote’s power key and the TV-body control may not perform identical actions. For example, a manual describes the remote power key as putting that TV into standby and the joystick as switching it off while it remains connected to mains power. These instructions are model-specific.
If the TV will not turn on
- Try the physical control. Use the button or joystick identified in your model’s manual. If the TV responds to the body control but not the remote, Philips suggests checking the remote batteries and pointing the remote toward the TV from nearby. Philips TV power and remote troubleshooting
- Check the power connection. Philips support gives outlet and surge-protector checks for a specific model; these are sensible checks when applicable, but they do not diagnose every set. Make sure the TV’s plug and outlet are connected properly, and try the outlet directly if you use a surge protector.
- Use indicator lights only as model-specific clues. Philips support describes a red standby LED and a green on-state LED for certain older models. On one model family, the support page says the remote will not operate the TV while it is off with no front LED; pressing the TV’s side power control changes its state, after which the remote can turn it on when the LED is red. - Check remote compatibility if it needs replacement. Philips says remote-key functions are listed in the TV’s user manual. The TV model is needed to check that a replacement remote is compatible; no one remote is established as suitable for every Philips TV. Philips remote-control guidance
Standby, switch-off, and unplugging are different
A Philips manual distinguishes standby from switching off with the TV’s joystick and from disconnecting the set from power. In the cited manual, the remote power key puts the TV in standby; using the joystick switches it off while it remains connected to mains power. The manual’s instruction for complete disconnection is: “To switch off the TV completely, disconnect the power plug.” Follow the safety guidance in your own model’s manual. Philips user manuals
