It fits a bedroom, kitchen, study or other secondary room where built-in streaming apps and voice control matter more than fine detail. It is not a 4K television, and the performance claims available for it come from the manufacturer’s specifications and user ratings rather than independent measurements.
What the set is
Philips Australia sells the 32PHT6529/79 in its 6500 series as a Smart LED TV that runs Google TV. The official specification sheet lists a 16:9 LED HD panel with 1366 x 768 pixels, and the product is marketed as an 80 cm, or 32-inch class, screen. Be aware that the CHOICE listing calls the same screen a “31-inch TV.” Both labels describe one screen size: 80 cm is roughly 31.5 inches measured diagonally.

The model number ends in /79, which identifies the Australian variant. Check that suffix when comparing listings, because retailers sometimes list similar Philips model numbers with different panel sizes or regional features.
Picture: what HD means on a 32-inch screen
The 1366 x 768 panel contains about 1.05 million pixels. A 4K panel contains about 8.3 million, so this set has roughly one-eighth of the pixel count of a 4K television. Spread across a 32-inch diagonal, that works out to roughly 50 pixels per inch, a figure calculated from the screen size and resolution rather than measured by Philips or CHOICE.
#1 Best Overall
- QLED FULL HD DISPLAY: Experience deeper blacks, brighter whites, and vibrant colors with advanced quantum dot technology on the 32-inch screen.
- ROKU SMART TV: Access 500+ free live TV channels including news, weather, sports, and entertainment right out of the box.
- WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY: Built-in 802.11 Wireless LAN lets you stream your favorite content seamlessly without extra cables.
- PERSONALIZED SMART HOMESCREEN: Enjoy an intuitive interface with tailored recommendations to help you discover your next favorite show or movie.
- PMR 120 MOTION RATE: Smooth, fluid motion handling ensures fast-moving scenes in sports and action content look sharp and clear.
At that density, the picture is clean from a typical couch distance in a small room. Text in on-screen menus, fine foliage, and small captions are where lower resolution is most noticeable, and they are more visible when you sit close to the screen. If the set will be used at arm’s length, as a kitchen or desk display often is, expect a softer image than a 4K panel of the same size would give.
The product specification lists HDR10 and HLG among the picture formats. These are signal formats the set is listed as supporting. They do not add resolution, and the panel is still HD. Picture modes listed are Movie, Natural, Standard, Vivid, Sport, and User, along with the HDR10 and HLG entries. No independent measurement of brightness, contrast, colour accuracy, or HDR impact was found for this model.
Smart features and apps
The set runs Google TV, with built-in Google Assistant and a voice remote that has a microphone. Philips’ product listing names YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Google Search, YouTube Music, Netflix, and Google Play Movies. Philips’ own description of the platform reads: “Google TV brings together movies, shows, and more from across your apps and subscriptions, and organises them just for you.” That is manufacturer copy, not an independent assessment.
App availability varies by country and by model. Subscription services such as Netflix and Prime Video require their own paid accounts. Before buying, confirm that the apps you use are offered in Australia on this model through the Google TV store on the set.
Broadcast reception
The regional specification lists a DVB-T/T2 tuner, MPEG2 and MPEG4 decoding, HEVC support, and 1000-page hypertext teletext. A set-top antenna connects through an IEC75 socket. The sources do not describe how the tuner performs in weak-signal areas, so the broadcast listing confirms features but not reception quality.
Connections
The rear and side connections are the most practical part of the specification for a secondary room. Philips lists the following:
| Connection | What the specification states |
|---|---|
| HDMI | Two ports. HDMI 1 supports eARC. HDMI-CEC features are listed. |
| USB | Two ports (CHOICE lists both as rear USB inputs). |
| Headphone output | One 3.5 mm headphone output. |
| Optical digital audio out | One, for a soundbar or amplifier. |
| Ethernet LAN | One wired network port. |
| Antenna | IEC75 connection. |
| Composite input | Mini AV plus left/right audio input. |
| Wireless | Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi. |
The Bluetooth entry confirms the version but not which audio profiles or headphone models pair with the set. Test your own headphones before relying on them for watching at night. A headphone socket is also listed, so wired headphones remain a reliable option.
Sound
Philips lists two speakers rated at 10 W each. That is the manufacturer’s rating, not a measured output, and no independent sound test for this model was found. For a small room, the built-in audio is adequate for news and dialogue. For films or music, the optical output or HDMI eARC on HDMI 1 is the practical upgrade path to an external soundbar or receiver.
Rank #2
- Sharp 720p HD resolution delivers clear, detailed everyday viewing.
- Perfect Motion Rate 120 provides smooth motion during fast-moving scenes.
- Roku TV offers a simple home screen with popular streaming channels and free entertainment.
- Three HDMI inputs, two USB ports, Wi-Fi, optical audio output, antenna input, and headphone output.
- Works with Apple AirPlay and voice control through Siri or Google Assistant.
Size, stand, and wall mounting
The manufacturer lists these dimensions and weights:
| Configuration | Width x height x depth | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Without stand | 717 x 430 x 82 mm | 3.9 kg |
| With table-top stand | 717 x 459 x 242 mm | 4.2 kg |
Philips lists a wall-mount dimension of 200 x 200 mm. Confirm that a bracket you plan to use matches this pattern and that it carries the weight of the set without the stand. Also check cable clearance behind the set, since the rear ports sit close to the panel. The sources did not identify a tested mount, so do not assume a specific bracket is compatible.
Power is 100 to 240 V at 50 or 60 Hz. Philips specifies standby consumption below 0.5 W. These figures come from the manufacturer’s specification and were not independently measured.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What independent evidence exists
Three sources cover this model, and each has limits:
- Manufacturer specifications. Philips publishes the specification sheet and the product page. These describe features and ratings, not test results.
- CHOICE listing. The CHOICE page confirms the screen size, resolution, two HDMI inputs, two rear USB inputs, and Bluetooth 5. Its recommendation, reliability, satisfaction, warranty and detailed test results are restricted to members on the page as surfaced, so no CHOICE verdict on picture or sound can be cited.
- Philips user ratings. A search result for the Philips Australia page showed a 3.8 out of 5 rating from 29 reviews. These are user-submitted and uncontrolled. Some visible excerpts on the same page refer to related 40-inch, 43-inch, or other 6500-series models, so the rating should not be read as a verdict on the 32-inch set alone.
No named expert, regulator, or standards-body evaluation of this exact television was found.
Price and availability
The CHOICE page lists the set at $299.00. That is a listing observation only. The date of the listing and current stock at Australian retailers were not established, so check the price at the point of purchase. Philips does not list a price on the sources reviewed here.

Who should buy it, and who should look elsewhere
- A good fit: a bedroom, kitchen, study or caravan where the screen is watched from a short-to-medium distance, and where you want Google TV, voice control and wired and wireless connections in one compact unit.
- A good fit: a buyer who will connect a soundbar through optical or HDMI eARC and does not expect the built-in speakers to carry a room.
- Look elsewhere: anyone who needs a 4K panel, a larger main-room screen, or a set with independently measured picture and sound performance. Compare the listed HD resolution and absence of any cited HDMI 2.1 or high-refresh gaming specification against your requirements before buying. The sources do not state gaming latency or refresh-rate performance.
- Before you buy: compare current prices and warranty terms across Australian retailers, confirm the /79 model suffix, and check that your streaming apps are available on the Google TV store for this model.

The Bottom Line
The Philips 32PHT6529/79 is a practical, inexpensive small-room Google TV with a clear HD limit. Buy it for a secondary room where you want built-in apps, voice control and a good set of ports. If the screen will be a main-room display or picture detail matters to you, choose a higher-resolution set instead.
