That is the manufacturer’s design rationale, not proof that it cools better than a conventional mesh case. The most important practical checks are GPU thickness at your motherboard’s first PCIe slot, the 72 mm CPU-cooler height limit, and which cooling hardware comes with the EX5 version you choose.
How the EX5’s airflow layout is meant to work
Phanteks introduced the EX5 as the first announced model family in its EX Series on September 8, 2026. Its compartmentalized design separates component areas and is intended to direct fresh air toward them. Phanteks describes the layout as: “A unique compartmentalized design provides direct fresh air intake.” That is the company’s description of the design, not an independently verified thermal result. A pre-installed 120 mm fan behind the motherboard directs air toward the VRMs and memory, according to Phanteks. The company also identifies the CPU socket area and M.2 SSDs as targets for focused motherboard airflow, and says the arrangement helps move GPU heat away from nearby components. These are intended airflow paths; the effect in a particular PC depends on its components and setup.

Does the Phanteks EX5 cool a GPU better?
That has not been established by the sources available here. Igor’s Lab describes the separation of GPU, CPU, motherboard, and power-supply areas, but characterizes “Air Curtain” as Phanteks’ marketing term and notes that results depend on installed parts, fan speeds, ambient temperature, and installation conditions. - BUILT-IN 6’’ LCD AIO COOLER: Fully integrated 360 AIO with 6’’ LCD & 120 chassis fan included, no additional fans needed
- MOTHERBOARD COMPATIBILITY: Compatible with ATX and Micro-ATX (mATX) form factors.
- MASSIVE GPU CLEARANCE: Accommodates graphics cards based on primary PCIe placement—up to 4.6 slots (Slot 1 entry ATX and mATX boards), 3.6 slots (Standard Slot 2 ATX), or 2.6 slots (Slot 3).
- INTERIOR FEATURES: Integrated ARGB lighting, 40mm cable clearance, Velcro cable ties and server-style GPU mounting bracket
Igor’s Lab reports Phanteks-provided temperature ranges of 54–68 °C for processors and 57–76 °C for graphics cards during 20-minute gaming sessions; the year for the figures is not stated. They are manufacturer data, not Igor’s Lab’s independent measurements. The cited materials do not specify ambient temperature, fan speeds, power limits, firmware, or the games used, and do not provide a direct comparison case. Igor’s Lab also notes inconsistent processor names in the materials. These ranges therefore cannot predict temperatures in a reader’s build or show that the EX5 outperforms another case.
TechTimes reported on September 10, 2026, that reviewers had not yet answered whether the EX5 cools better than a good mesh-front case with well-placed fans. That describes the review state reported on that date; it is not a claim about all later coverage. No independent comparative thermal result is established in the cited sources. TechTimes coverage

What comes with the EX5, EX5 Plus, and EX5 Max?
| Version | Included cooling | Display |
|---|---|---|
| EX5 | Pre-installed 120 mm fan behind the motherboard; the builder chooses CPU cooling. | Not stated for this configuration in the cited release. |
| EX5 Plus | Glacier One 360S25-SE AIO with concealed tubing; Phanteks says it uses a single-frame S25 ARGB fan assembly with one cable for the fan frame. | Not stated for this configuration in the cited release. |
| EX5 Max | Plus configuration, including the Glacier One 360S25-SE AIO and single-frame S25 ARGB fan assembly. | 6-inch display. |
The base EX5 supports a side-mounted radiator up to 360 mm. Confirm the current listing for your region before buying: included equipment and availability can depend on the specific listing. Phanteks EX5 release Igor’s Lab technical coverage

Will your graphics card and other components fit?
The official product page lists model number PH-EX526_DBK01 and dimensions of 449 × 234 × 474 mm (17.67 × 9.21 × 18.66 in). It supports ATX, Micro-ATX, and Mini-ITX motherboards. Check the full fit limits below against the exact parts and layout you plan to install; GPU length alone is not enough. Phanteks EX5 product page

- Seamless Glass Design: Create a picture-perfect PC with a seamless glass design that showcases your build
- Rear-Connect Mainboard Support: Support for the new Rear-Connect Mainboards for a zero-cable build with clean aesthetics
- Increased Chassis Width: Increased chassis width to support wider GPUs and PCIe cables for modern graphics cards
- Premium Build Quality: Premium build quality throughout the strong and reinforced outer frame for durability
- High Airflow Performance: High Airflow Performance with fine mesh, dust filter and 8x 120mm fan positions for optimal cooling
| Component or feature | Listed limit or support |
|---|---|
| Graphics-card length | Up to 358 mm. |
| Graphics-card thickness | Up to 93 mm (4.6 slots) from PCIe slot 1; 73 mm (3.6 slots) from slot 2; or 53 mm (2.6 slots) from slot 3. |
| CPU cooler height | Up to 72 mm. |
| Side radiator | Up to 360 mm; Igor’s Lab lists a maximum radiator envelope of 413 × 134 × 60 mm. |
| Power supply length | Up to 210 mm. |
| Storage positions | One 3.5-inch HDD and one 2.5-inch SSD. |
| Front I/O | Two USB 3.0 ports, one USB-C 3.2 Gen 2×2 port, combined microphone/headphone jack, power and reset buttons. |
The GPU thickness allowance changes with the position of the motherboard’s first PCIe slot, so do not treat 73 mm as a universal clearance. Phanteks says vertical GPU installation is not supported. The 72 mm CPU-cooler limit is restrictive for many tower air coolers; compare the manufacturer’s cooler dimensions with the case limit before choosing one. What to check before choosing a version
- Measure your graphics card, then check its thickness against the EX5 limit for the motherboard’s first PCIe slot position.
- Check the CPU cooler’s actual height against the 72 mm limit, or confirm that the radiator and installation dimensions work for your chosen configuration.
- Decide whether you want to supply your own CPU cooling, get the included 360 mm AIO in the Plus, or choose the Max for its display.
- Verify the exact regional listing for included hardware and current availability before ordering.
