Start by identifying when and how the problem happens
Note whether the game fails before the intro, exits during play, runs slowly throughout, stutters only in cutscenes, or has a display or input issue. Record the exact error text and what changed recently, such as a game update, graphics-driver update, new controller, or overlay. These details help distinguish a launch failure from a performance or configuration problem.

Steam lists ATLUS as the developer and SEGA as the publisher. Its PC listing specifies DirectX 11, 14 GB of storage, 2 GB of minimum memory, and 4 GB recommended. It lists Windows 8.1 as the minimum operating system and Windows 10 as recommended. Separately, Steam says its client has required Windows 10 or later since January 1, 2024; that client requirement is not the same as the game’s listed operating-system requirement. If the game fails to launch or closes immediately
- Capture the failure. Write down the exact message and whether the game exits before or after the intro.
- Test without overlays. Temporarily close overlays and monitoring tools, including RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS), and try again. PCGamingWiki lists RTSS as a possible association with immediate closure, but marks the cause as citation needed; this is a diagnostic check, not a confirmed universal fix. - Compare the error with the listed requirements. Check the game requirements on Steam if the message mentions setup or minimum requirements. PCGamingWiki also reports removing or renaming DirectX-related DLL files as a workaround, but marks that entry citation needed. Do not delete DLLs casually: preserve a backup or use Steam’s file verification and restore route if you make a change and the game stops working. The report alone does not establish that those files are the cause on your PC.
- Escalate with useful details. If the issue persists, use SEGA support or Steam’s support and community routes from the game listing. Include your error text, Windows version, hardware, and the steps already tried.
If resolution or Windows scaling looks wrong
PCGamingWiki describes several display workarounds. They are reported steps, not guaranteed fixes, and the page does not establish that every display issue has the same cause.

- Open the game executable’s Properties, go to Compatibility, then Change high DPI settings. Try the high-DPI scaling override set to Application.
- In Windows display settings, try 100% scaling as a test. Note the original setting so you can restore it.
- If resolution options are missing, switch the game to Windowed mode, exit, and reopen it. The PCGamingWiki instructions say to select the desired resolution after reopening; Borderless or Fullscreen can then be selected.
If those steps do not help, note Windows scaling, desktop resolution, game resolution, and whether the game is running Windowed, Borderless, or Fullscreen before trying another change.
If the frame rate is low or cutscenes stutter
First decide whether performance is poor throughout gameplay, intermittently uneven, or only troublesome during video and cutscenes. Low average FPS and cutscene-only stutter are different symptoms, and the available sources do not verify a current, general fix for either form of stutter.

Very low FPS throughout gameplay
If your PC has integrated graphics and a discrete NVIDIA GPU, check whether P4G.exe is assigned to the high-performance NVIDIA processor. PCGamingWiki lists this as a possible fix for very low FPS, while marking the underlying claim citation needed. Treat it as a reversible graphics-assignment check rather than proof that the integrated GPU is responsible.

Do not assume a single setting will fix it. Community discussion includes a user report about lagging cutscenes, but an individual discussion does not show that one cause or remedy applies across current PCs. Gather the game version, Windows version, CPU and GPU models, graphics-driver version, whether the PC is a laptop, overlay or recording software in use, and whether the symptom began after an update or driver change.

If a controller is not detected or the wrong prompts appear
Persona 4 Golden’s PC information records controller support, full controller support, XInput-compatible controller support, and remapping. Start with the connection and software configuration rather than replacing a working device.
- Confirm Windows detects the controller, then review the game’s controller configuration in Steam Input.
- Change one input setting at a time. Avoid stacking multiple remapping layers while diagnosing the issue, so you can tell which change mattered.
- If the game detects the controller but shows unexpected prompts, check the Steam Input layout and in-game remapping before testing another device.
A Steam Community thread describes a case in which a controller with voice-chat functionality was detected by Windows as a headset and changed the active audio device. That report may be relevant if your audio output changes when the controller is connected; it does not establish a general defect. See the Steam Community controller and audio discussion.

An XInput-compatible PC controller is an optional replacement only if your existing controller is faulty or unsuitable. Buying one is not a routine solution to a Steam Input or remapping configuration problem.

- The failure stage: does the game fail to launch, close during play, or misbehave only in a particular scene?
- The performance symptom: low FPS throughout, intermittent stutter, or cutscene-only slowdown?
- Your game version, Windows version, CPU and GPU models, graphics-driver version, and whether it is a laptop.
- Overlays, recording tools, and monitoring utilities currently running.
- For controller problems: the device model, whether Windows detects it, Steam Input configuration, in-game remapping, and any audio-device change.
- For display problems: Windows scaling, desktop and game resolution, and screen mode.
Steam’s game listing links to its support and community options, and SEGA has a support section. The community-maintained troubleshooting page is useful for specific reported workarounds, but entries marked citation needed should not be treated as confirmed causes.
