What Perplexity Email Assistant does
The clearest current scope comes from Perplexity’s Help Center article, last updated August 14, 2026, which lists Email as “write only” for Assistant. That wording indicates a constrained email action, not unrestricted access to read and manage an entire mailbox.

Perplexity’s September 25, 2025 launch announcement described a broader set of functions. The company said Email Assistant could draft replies using a person’s voice, tone and inbox context, automatically label inbox messages, and arrange meetings by adding [email protected] to an email thread. These were vendor descriptions at launch, not independent test results or confirmation of the current Assistant interface. The announcement also said Max subscribers could save “an hour a day”; that is a promotional claim, not a verified typical outcome. Perplexity changelog, September 25, 2025.
Do not assume the assistant sends every drafted reply automatically. The launch notice described drafts as send-ready; the current Help Center’s “write only” label does not by itself spell out whether or how a user reviews or sends a message.

Does it work with Gmail, Outlook and calendars?
In a separate announcement dated September 18, 2025, Perplexity said Pro and Max subscribers could connect Gmail, Google Calendar and Outlook to search email and calendar events. It said Gmail and Google Calendar could also send emails and create calendar invites from Perplexity. This is a dated description of connector capabilities, not a guarantee of current support for every account, region or Assistant workflow. Perplexity changelog, September 18, 2025.

These connector claims and the later “Email (write only)” Assistant listing describe different product surfaces and dates. Treat them as related but not interchangeable: connector search capabilities do not prove that the current Assistant can read a mailbox, and the Help Center listing does not confirm that every connector action remains offered.

Who can use it, and is the 14-day trial still available?
Perplexity’s October 24, 2025 changelog said Pro subscribers could try Email Assistant for 14 days. That is historical access information; it does not confirm that the trial is still open or that Pro is currently the only eligible tier. A September 2025 connector announcement named Pro and Max for Gmail, Google Calendar and Outlook connections, but it does not establish present-day Email Assistant eligibility. The current Help Center entry documents Email as a supported Assistant app but does not, in the cited wording, specify eligible subscription tiers, regional availability or trial terms. Perplexity’s plan guide, last updated September 2, 2026, outlines Free, Pro, Education Pro, Max, Enterprise Pro, Enterprise Max and API plans; that general plan overview is not an Email Assistant access policy. Check the feature list and terms shown in your own Perplexity account before upgrading specifically for Email Assistant. The sources cited here do not establish current access for new users, regions or plans.
What is known about email privacy?
Perplexity’s October 24, 2025 changelog said that drafting and labeling did not log email content and that emails sent or received by Assistant were deleted after two weeks. Those are historical company statements, not verified current retention terms. The current Help Center scope listing does not confirm that the 2025 logging or deletion terms still apply, so do not rely on that announcement alone when deciding whether to connect a sensitive mailbox. The plan guide updated September 2, 2026 says Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max data is never used for model training, while individual Pro, Education Pro and Max users can opt out of data collection in settings. These are broad plan-level statements; they do not replace current Email Assistant-specific details about message access, storage, deletion or processing.
- Review the current in-product connection and privacy disclosures before linking an account.
- For work or regulated email, confirm your organization’s rules and applicable Perplexity terms rather than treating an older launch notice as a current guarantee.
- Use the narrowest access and sharing settings available for the account you connect.
How to evaluate it against another email workflow

- Access: verify current plan eligibility and any trial in the account interface instead of assuming the historical 14-day Pro offer remains active.
- Data handling: read current email-specific terms, particularly if message content is sensitive; the two-week deletion and no-logging statements are from October 2025.
