Peak Design’s cases are built for people who treat their phone like a daily tool—grab it, go, and only change accessories when it actually helps. With the Peak Design Case for Pixel 7, the headline feature is MagSafe-style magnetic alignment for charging and mounts, paired with the brand’s signature approach to materials and fit.
This review focuses on the stuff you’ll notice within the first week: how the case feels in-hand, how the buttons behave, how well MagSafe alignment holds up, and what breaks (or doesn’t) when you add chargers, wallets, and car mounts.

What Peak Design is selling (and what you should expect)
You’re not just buying “a phone case with magnets.” You’re buying a case engineered to keep your Pixel 7 positioned consistently for magnetic charging accessories and mounts. That means consistent magnet placement, tight tolerances around the phone body, and an overall build that doesn’t shift the phone by a few millimeters.

Compatibility check: Pixel 7 + MagSafe expectations
Which Pixel 7 models this applies to
This review is for the Peak Design Case designed for Google Pixel 7 (6.3-inch class). It’s not the same thing as Pixel 7 Pro, which has a different camera bump and proportions. Make sure you’re using the correct model case—MagSafe alignment and fit depend on it.
What MagSafe does and does not guarantee
MagSafe compatibility in a non-Apple phone context usually means magnetic positioning plus support for standard magnetic charging ecosystems. It doesn’t mean you’ll get Apple-specific iPhone behavior (like certain UI animations), but the physics should work: magnet alignment and stable contact improve charging consistency.

Design and build quality review
Materials, finish, and wear over time
Peak Design cases generally aim for a balance of rigidity and grip—stiffer enough to protect edges, but not so stiff that it fights you during installation. The outer finish typically resists the “instantly looks scuffed” problem common with more slippery plastics.
In day-to-day use, the main wear spots tend to be at corners and along the lip where your phone makes first contact with surfaces. A well-designed case moves that wear away from the glass and camera bar.
Protection coverage: lip height and corners
Look for two areas: the front lip (around the screen) and the camera edge protection. Peak Design’s design goal is usually a case that prevents direct glass contact when placed face-down, while still keeping the camera island clear enough for normal handling.
If your MagSafe accessories press against the back glass area, the case thickness and edge shape matter. Too thin can shift the magnet alignment; too thick can reduce charging contact pressure.
Button feel and tactile alignment
A good case should preserve click feel, not just cover buttons. With Peak Design cases, button cutouts are usually aligned to the phone’s actual button positions, which helps prevent the “mushy” feel you get when the case compresses the button travel.
If you feel resistance immediately after snapping it on, remove the case and re-seat it. Poor alignment can make buttons feel worse than they should.

Wireless charging and cable clearance
MagSafe-style cases still need to work with both magnetic charging and standard wireless charging pads (depending on charger type). Clearance around the bottom edge matters for cable plugs—some cases block low-profile cables; others don’t.
Test it early with the charger and cable you actually use. Don’t rely on “it fits another cable” logic.
MagSafe performance review (the reason to buy)
MagSafe performance is mostly about two things: alignment and repeatability. A killer case holds the phone in a consistent magnetic position every time, even when you’re slightly off-center when attaching a charger or mount.
How alignment feels in daily use
When a case is dialed in, accessories feel like they “click” into place rather than just hover near it. The magnets should provide enough pull that the charger doesn’t slide when you start moving your phone—especially in a car mount.
Practical test: snap the phone onto a MagSafe-style charger, remove it, repeat 10 times, and see whether you have to “hunt” for the sweet spot.
Charging reliability with popular chargers
Your experience will depend on charger power and the contact quality between phone, case, and charger. A good MagSafe setup reduces that problem by improving positioning and contact consistency.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHere are the charger categories worth testing:
- MagSafe-style puck chargers (disc-style, centered coil).
- MagSafe stands (vertical alignment in a dock).
- Car mounts (often use stronger magnets but less rigid contact).
When charging works well, you should see stable charging behavior without repeated “disconnected/reconnected” patterns. If you see frequent drops, it’s usually alignment, case seating, or charger compatibility rather than random failure.
Accessory stability: mounts, wallets, and stands
MagSafe magnets aren’t only for charging. If you use a magnetic wallet, ring stand, or mount, you want the case to keep the accessory centered while you type, walk, or drive.
Accessory stability comes down to:
- Magnet strength (holds position under movement).
- Surface geometry (flat enough for full contact).
- Case thickness uniformity (reduces drift).
If a mount is slightly misaligned, Peak Design-style precision can make the difference between “fine” and “why won’t this stay on?”

In-hand experience: grip, thickness, and pocketability
Grip in dry vs. sweaty conditions
Many MagSafe cases end up being slippery because they prioritize smooth surfaces for magnet placement. Peak Design tends to aim for textured or structured grip so you don’t accidentally drop the phone while taking a call.
In sweaty hands, grip becomes the deciding factor. If your phone is already large, a case that slightly improves hold can feel like upgrading to a smaller phone.
Thickness and pocket test
Every MagSafe case adds a bit of bulk. The right amount protects without turning your pocket into a sweatbox. You should be able to sit down, stand up, and pull the phone without it feeling like a thick brick.
Do a simple pocket check: carry it for one day, then try to remove it one-handed. If it catches on seams or buttons, it’s not just “slightly thicker”—it’s ergonomically annoying.
Magnetic ring visibility and dust
Magnet placement sometimes creates subtle visual cues (a ring pattern or darker area). That’s normal. What you don’t want is a case that constantly attracts lint around the magnet area.

Installation and day-1 setup
What to do before you snap it on
- Clean your Pixel 7 back with a microfiber cloth. Remove dust around the camera bar and edges.
- Check the case interior for manufacturing dust. If present, wipe it.
- Inspect button cutouts and speaker/mic openings to confirm they align visually.
Then install: align the top, press corners evenly, and let the case seat across the frame rather than forcing one side first.
Getting perfect MagSafe alignment
After the case is on, do a charger seating test before leaving home:
- Attach your MagSafe charger and check that it doesn’t slide.
- Unplug, reattach, and repeat at least 5 times.
- Move the phone slightly to simulate movement in a car mount.
If it behaves consistently, you’re set for everyday use.

Cleaning the magnets and case edges
To keep MagSafe accessories snapping reliably:
- Use a dry microfiber to remove lint on the back.
- Avoid metal tools near the magnet area.
- If needed, use a barely damp cloth on the case exterior, then fully dry before charging.
Common issues and troubleshooting
MagSafe charger won’t hold a charge
Try these fixes in order:
- Re-seat the case: remove and reinstall to ensure it’s fully seated around the Pixel 7 frame.
- Clean the back: lint under the magnet area can shift contact and position.
- Test another charger: swap to a different MagSafe puck/stand to separate charger issues from case issues.
- Try standard wireless charging on a pad. If it charges fine but MagSafe doesn’t, it’s alignment/contact behavior.
If you’re using a thick third-party cable with a MagSafe power adapter, also check that the adapter delivers the expected power to the charger.
MagSafe accessory slips or won’t latch
Most “won’t latch” problems are either misfit (wrong model case) or debris on the magnet face. Wipe both magnet surfaces, then reattach slowly—don’t just drop it onto the case.
If it latches but falls under motion, try cleaning and ensure the accessory isn’t designed for a different phone thickness class.
Case feels tight or buttons feel stiff
Stiff buttons usually mean the case isn’t fully seated. Remove it, align the top properly, then press around the frame evenly. If the case is brand new, a short break-in period can happen, but sustained mushy behavior usually indicates misalignment.
Wireless charging works but MagSafe notifications are flaky
This is often a software-side behavior plus positioning. Verify two things:
- Restart the phone after installing the case (a quick restart can refresh charging detection behavior).
- Test with the same charger for 2–3 cycles to confirm it’s not random cable/adapter behavior.
If flakes persist across multiple MagSafe accessories, the case model or magnet placement might not match your phone version.

What you’ll love
- Strong daily MagSafe practicality for charging and common magnetic accessories.
- Thoughtful fit that keeps buttons usable and protection where it matters.
- Premium feel compared with average “magnetic case” options.
What might annoy you
- Added bulk versus thin cases (MagSafe alignment usually costs some thickness).
- Magnet area cleaning may become a habit if you’re in dusty environments.
- Third-party accessory variance: not all MagSafe-style items are made with the same magnet geometry.
Alternatives if you want a different vibe
Budget MagSafe-style cases
Cheaper cases can be tempting, but magnet placement tolerances vary. If you want “snap-on and stay put,” spending a bit more often reduces the annoyance of chasing the charging sweet spot.
If you go budget, test early: attach/detach 10 times, then verify charging stability for a full session.

Rugged cases with stronger drop claims
Rugged cases may offer more corner shielding, but MagSafe performance can be inconsistent due to thicker layers and less precise magnet alignment. If you’re drop-prone and want MagSafe, look for rugged cases that explicitly target magnetic charging positioning.
Best Value
- Premium protection from drops and scratches
- Compact profile allows easy grip and happy pockets
- Tactile buttons provide a crisp and distinct press
- All Crave cases have a lifetime warranty
- Designed for Google Pixel 7
Thin cases that keep magnets but reduce bulk
Thin cases can improve pocket feel, but MagSafe accessories may sit slightly off-center if the magnet stack-up is different. If you care more about pocketability than rugged edges, prioritize magnet alignment reviews over pure thickness claims.
Who should buy this case
Buy the Peak Design Case for Pixel 7 if you use magnetic charging, car mounts, or magnetic accessories regularly and you want repeatable alignment rather than occasional success.
It’s also a strong pick if you care about how the case feels in-hand—grip, button behavior, and protection that doesn’t feel awkward.
Who should skip it
Skip it if you’re strictly budget-focused and okay with frequent repositioning. Also skip if you need extreme ruggedness and are willing to sacrifice MagSafe precision for thicker armor.
If you mainly charge with wired power and never use magnetic accessories, a thinner non-MagSafe case could make more sense.
FAQs
Will MagSafe accessories work with Pixel 7 in this case?
Most MagSafe-style accessories that rely on magnetic alignment should work. The key is correct magnet placement and a fully seated case. Test your specific charger/mount early to confirm reliability.
Does the case interfere with wireless charging?
Wireless charging should still work as long as your charger and phone positioning are compatible. If wireless charging works but magnetic charging is flaky, the issue is usually alignment/contact rather than the phone.

Is this case compatible with Pixel 7 Pro accessories?
No. Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are different hardware dimensions, especially around the camera bump. A case made for one model shouldn’t be assumed compatible with accessories designed for the other.
How do I clean the back without damaging the case?
Use a microfiber cloth. If you need moisture, use a barely damp cloth on the case exterior only, avoid soaking, then fully dry before charging.
Why does my MagSafe charger sometimes disconnect?
Common causes are case not fully seated, lint on the magnet area, using a charger with inconsistent output, or accessory geometry differences. Re-seat and clean first; then test a different charger.
Bottom Line
The Peak Design Case for Pixel 7 earns its keep when you actually use MagSafe-style charging and magnetic accessories every day. When the case is seated correctly, the magnetic experience feels consistent—snap, attach, and forget.
