Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo improve the odds of passing radiated-emissions testing, identify how current is escaping the board, then test a targeted change under a setup that matches the product’s intended use. Common causes include differential-mode current in a loop, common-mode current on a board or cable, and fast switching or data edges that add high-frequency energy. None of the techniques below guarantees a first-pass pass: the applicable limits and the result depend on the product and test configuration.
What makes a PCB radiate?
A board radiates when changing current flows through structures that can couple energy into space. Those structures may be current loops on the PCB or connected conductors such as power and signal cables. Texas Instruments describes common-mode and differential-mode loops around an isolated switching device and notes that large loops and long cables can worsen emissions. Treat these as mechanisms to investigate—not as proof that every large board will fail. TI’s 2021 ISOW7741 brief summarizes one aspect of the problem: “The primary reason for radiations is the formation of antennae on the board.” The practical implication is to find the current path and any conductor acting as an antenna, rather than assume that radiation comes only from the board itself. Differential-mode current
Differential-mode current travels out along one path and returns along another. If the paths are separated or the loop is large, the resulting loop can radiate more effectively. Inspect the switching-current loop, its return path, and the placement of local decoupling; reducing the relevant loop area is a diagnostic direction, not a universal guarantee.
Common-mode current
Common-mode current flows in the same direction on multiple conductors relative to a reference such as chassis or earth. It can turn cables and other connected conductors into efficient radiators. A result that changes substantially when cable routing or grounding changes is a clue to examine common-mode paths and whether the test wiring matches the intended installation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Fast switching and data edges
Faster data rates can increase parasitic charging activity, while fast slew rates contain more high-frequency spectral content. If reducing the rate is not viable, TI identifies layout, strategic impedance, and shielding as possible mitigation directions. The effective choice depends on the signal path and product constraints; the source does not establish a universal ranking. TI’s digital-isolator emissions brief
How to investigate a failing or marginal result
- Freeze and document the test configuration. Record the operating mode, load, enclosure, board orientation, cable lengths and routing, grounding, and planned protective-earth or shield connections. Keep the setup representative of intended final use; otherwise, a measured change may reflect the test wiring rather than the product. TI’s ISOW7741 application brief
- Find repeatable peaks. Note which emissions peaks recur and their frequencies. Compare them with switching frequencies and harmonics, fast data edges, and plausible common-mode paths. A frequency match is a clue for investigation, not by itself proof of the source.
- Trace likely current paths. Inspect loop area, return paths, decoupling placement, high-frequency current routes, and relevant board keep-outs. Use the device data sheet and evaluation-board guidance for exact placement requirements; do not infer a universal layout rule from another part’s example.
- Change one variable and remeasure. A focused change makes the result easier to interpret. There is no universal experiment protocol or guaranteed improvement; keep notes so the before-and-after readings correspond to the same setup.
- Check the whole design after a change. Confirm that a reduction in emissions has not created problems elsewhere, including signal integrity, thermal behavior, isolation, or safety. The cited techniques are options, not substitutes for evaluating the design’s constraints.

Decoupling: follow the specific device guidance
For the ISOW7741, TI’s May 2021 brief specifies a 0.01-µF decoupling capacitor within 1 mm of the device’s relevant supply pins. The brief explains that decoupling helps filter differential noise and provide peak currents, with capacitor values selected for the converter frequency. This value and distance are a recommendation for that device—not a general prescription for every PCB or isolated converter. TI’s ISOW7741 application brief

Keep-outs and copper around an isolation barrier
In the ISOW7741 layout context, TI recommends keep-out zones to limit parasitic coupling between the isolated sides and identifies avoiding planes directly beneath device pins in highlighted regions as a best-case approach. The specific geometry is tied to that design and its isolation context; follow the relevant device documentation rather than applying the figure as a blanket rule for all boards. Ferrites, filters, and common-mode chokes
TI’s June 2026 EMC application note lists decoupling capacitors, ferrite-bead pi-filters, isolated copper islands, common-mode chokes, and Y-capacitors among its PCB techniques. These are candidate approaches, not interchangeable fixes. A ferrite’s impedance across the frequency band of interest, current rating, saturation behavior, placement, and interaction with the circuit all need review. A common-mode choke or Y-capacitor also has to suit the application’s signal, isolation, and safety constraints; the note does not make any one part or topology universally suitable. Cables and measurement wiring
Long power wires and probes can act as antennas and affect a reading. Keep test leads short when that reflects intended use, or reproduce the actual system’s cable lengths and connections when it does not. For long supply connections, TI identifies common-mode chokes near the device and ferrite cable clamps as possible ways to reduce the influence of the wires during measurement. A clamp that improves a bench reading does not establish that the final product, with its real wiring, will comply. TI’s ISOW7741 application brief
