A pointer that works but is not drawn calls for visibility and display-mode checks; one that stops responding or escapes the game window points to a different problem. There is no established universal cause or guaranteed fix.
First, identify what the cursor is doing
Test mouse movement and clicking in a menu or another part of the game where input should be obvious.

- It moves or clicks, but you cannot see it: focus on pointer visibility and the game’s display mode.
- It does not respond: the issue may involve input or game focus, rather than an invisible cursor.
- It leaves the game window: investigate cursor confinement and overlays separately. This is not the same symptom as a pointer that remains in the game but is not visible.
Reports on Microsoft Q&A describe both an invisible yet functional cursor and a cursor that disappears during play. Those community reports do not establish that PC Game Pass itself causes the issue. Microsoft describes the Xbox PC app as a hub for managing and accessing games, including PC Game Pass titles, but that platform context does not identify a Game Pass-specific cursor defect. Microsoft’s overview of PC gaming on Windows 11 provides that context.
Test visibility and display settings
Turn off pointer trails
Windows pointer trails are a low-risk setting to test if the cursor still works but is not visible. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse > Additional mouse settings. In the Mouse Properties window, open Pointer Options, clear Display pointer trails if it is selected, then apply the change. Restart the game and check again.

This suggestion comes from a Microsoft Q&A response accepted on April 11, 2014, so treat it as a historical troubleshooting test—not a confirmed fix for current games. Read the Microsoft Q&A discussion about an invisible cursor in full-screen games.
Compare fullscreen with windowed or borderless mode
If the game offers windowed or borderless fullscreen, switch to one of those modes, relaunch or reload as needed, and see whether the cursor becomes visible. A Microsoft Q&A response suggested windowed fullscreen for a report in which the pointer remained usable but invisible; it does not show that changing modes works for every game. Change one setting at a time and relaunch the affected game before trying another. That makes it easier to tell whether a particular change altered the symptom.

If the cursor escapes the game window
When the pointer is visible but can move outside the game, test whether Game Bar or one of its widgets is involved. One Microsoft Q&A user reported cursor confinement breaking after opening the Xbox Social widget. With the game open, compare behavior with the overlay closed and then with that widget closed.

This is an anecdotal report about cursor confinement, not evidence that Game Bar generally makes cursors invisible. Read the Microsoft Q&A discussion about cursor lock and Xbox Game Bar.
Only account for Xbox mode if you use it
Microsoft says Xbox mode presents apps full screen when possible and notes that “Some apps behave differently in Xbox mode.” The feature applies to Windows 11 version 24H2 or later in supported markets. That documentation is useful context if you are playing through Xbox mode, but Microsoft does not identify the mode as a cause of invisible cursors. If you use it, compare the affected app’s behavior outside Xbox mode rather than assuming it is responsible. Microsoft’s Xbox mode documentation describes the feature and its availability.

What the available evidence can—and cannot—tell you
The suggested checks target different symptoms: pointer trails and display mode address visibility, while isolating Game Bar addresses a reported confinement problem. The settings are reversible, but they are not interchangeable fixes. Microsoft Q&A reports are community anecdotes, and the pointer-trails suggestion dates to 2014; they do not provide comparable success rates or prove a current PC Game Pass-wide defect. No published prevalence or fix-success statistic is established by these sources.
