Customize a PC by starting with the problem you want to solve: appearance, heat or noise, a particular workload, or an uncomfortable desk setup. Then check what your existing case, motherboard, graphics card, cooling hardware, and software support before changing anything. A lighting effect changes appearance; it does not automatically improve speed, and a new component is useful only if it fits and suits the way you use the computer.
Start with your goals and the PC you have
Decide which outcome matters most before shopping or changing settings. A visual refresh, quieter operation, gaming, creative work, and a more comfortable desk setup call for different choices. One change may help more than one goal, but there is no universal upgrade that improves every PC.

Identify your current case, motherboard, graphics card, cooling arrangement, monitor, and the software that supports your hardware. These details determine which cases, fans, lighting devices, and settings are available to you. ASUS’s PC DIY guidance also explains the core components and notes that productivity needs can influence component choices.

Appearance changes can include a different case color or window, coordinated lighting, visible components, and tidier cable routing. Treat case design and cooling support as a combined decision: a case has to accommodate the motherboard and installed components, with enough clearance and support for the cooling arrangement you intend to use.

Choose a case for the components inside it
Before replacing a case, confirm its supported motherboard format and check clearance for your graphics card and other components. Also verify fan and radiator capacity and consider how air moves through the case. MSI’s case-selection guide and compatibility guide cover these fit and cooling considerations. Style is a reasonable priority once the case can house the build and meet its cooling needs.
Choose lighting control based on device support
Windows Dynamic Lighting provides centralized control for supported RGB and LED devices, including devices that support the HID LampArray standard. Which settings are available depends on the device; consult Microsoft’s Dynamic Lighting guide to check how the feature works. Vendor utilities can provide additional controls for compatible hardware. For example, ASUS describes synchronizing supported devices through Aura Sync and connecting an addressable strip to a compatible motherboard in its Aura Sync guide.

- 【Silent Fan Size】 Model: TL-C12C-S X5, Size: 120*120*25mm, Speed: 1550RPM±10%, Noise ≤ 25.6dBA Connector: 4pin pwm, Current: 0.20A, Air Pressure: 1.53mm H2O, Air Flow: 66.17CFM, Higher air flow for improved cooling performance.
- 【Perfect Match】The PC fan can be used not only as a case fan, but is also suitable for use with a cpu cooler to create a cooling effect together, which can take away the dry heat from the case and the high temperature generated by the CPU in operation, allowing for maximum cooling; Ideal for cases, radiators and CPU coolers.
Do not connect an RGB device based on the connector’s appearance alone. A 12V 4-pin RGB connection and a 5V 3-pin addressable RGB connection are different standards. Check the device’s voltage and connector against the motherboard header or controller before connecting it; MSI’s compatibility guide explains the distinction. If the device is not recognized by Windows or the vendor utility, confirm that it is compatible and connected to the right header or controller.
Improve cooling and airflow deliberately
Processors, graphics cards, and other components generate heat under load. Thermal management helps keep temperatures from adversely affecting the system; in gaming, inadequate cooling can contribute to thermal throttling. Microsoft discusses these issues in its thermal-management design guide and Windows gaming PC guidance.

- [Quality Bearing and Low Noise] The carefully developed quality hydro bearing addresses the issue of PC cooling fan blade vibration in lifting mode, keeping fan noise to a minimum of 31.6 dBA. This ensures peak cooling performance and extends the life of the fan.
- [Fit CPU and Radiator] Ideal for both CPU and radiator use, these PC fans ensure excellent cooling performance, and enjoy superior cooling with our efficient and compatible ARGB computer magnetic fans.
- Check temperatures during the workload that causes concern, then compare them with the limits specified by the component maker.
- Look for obstructed airflow, such as blocked vents or cables in the path of intake and exhaust.
- Before adding fans or changing cooling hardware, verify that the case supports their size and that the motherboard or controller has the necessary connections.
- Choose a fan or cooling change to address an observed need, not an assumed temperature or performance gain.
Case and fan layouts vary, so do not assume one fan count or orientation suits every build. Check the case’s supported fan and radiator locations alongside the specific components you need to cool.
Tune performance with care
Some hardware utilities offer modes for cooling, noise, energy use, lighting, and overclocking. ASUS’s Armoury Crate documentation describes these kinds of controls for supported systems. Their effects depend on the hardware and workload, so choose a mode based on whether you value quieter operation, lower power use, or performance under load.

- High Performance Cooling Fan: The design of nine fan blades, the maximum speed reaches 1200 RPM, and it is connected to the motherboard through the 3 PIN interface, providing a good cooling effect for the case
- Low Noise: Every fans is equipped with four soft silicone cushions that can absorb vibration at high speeds. The maximum noise is only 32.1 dBA. Keep the case in a relatively quiet environment when working
- Hydraulic Bearing Design: High-quality bearings can make the fan rotate more stably, reduce noise, and prolong its service life. Each fan can work an average of 30,000 hours
- Simple Installation: This computer fan's size is 120 mm and is compatible with all types of cases, making it easy to install. You can do it even if you have no installation experience
- Good Insulation and Heat Resistance: Case fan uses PBT environmental protection material, with good insulation and heat resistance, tough and durable quality
Manual fan-curve changes and CPU or GPU overclocking are optional, not prerequisites for customizing a PC. ASUS warns that manual changes can carry hardware risk and provides recovery guidance in its documentation. If you adjust settings, change them conservatively and use the vendor’s instructions to restore defaults if the system becomes unstable. No particular performance gain can be assumed without evidence from your own system.

Make the setup suit your work
For a desk setup, match the monitor’s capabilities to both the PC and the work you do, while keeping budget in view. A monitor choice that suits gaming may differ from one that suits office work or creative tasks; the graphics hardware must also be able to support the display capability you want. Microsoft’s PC setup guidance discusses monitor capability, budget, and cable management.

Route cables to reduce clutter and avoid blocking case vents. Choose a keyboard, mouse, or other peripheral when it solves a real comfort or workflow problem. Those changes may make a setup more suitable for an individual, but a specific device or lighting effect is not established to improve productivity for everyone.
Compatibility checklist before you buy
Use this checklist before choosing an airflow case, fan, or lighting strip. The exact requirements depend on your existing components and the product you are considering.
- Case: Does it support your motherboard format and leave enough clearance for the graphics card and other components?
- Cooling: Does it support the fan or radiator size and locations you need? Does the motherboard or controller have the right connections?
- Airflow: Can air reach the components that need cooling, without vents being blocked by the case layout or cable routing?
- Lighting: Does the motherboard header or controller match the device’s connector type and voltage, including the difference between 12V 4-pin RGB and 5V 3-pin addressable RGB?
- Software: Is the device supported by Windows Dynamic Lighting, the relevant vendor utility, or both? Available controls vary by device.
- Workload: Does the monitor or peripheral address a specific need, and can the PC support the monitor capability you want?
For case and component fit, consult MSI’s case guide and compatibility guide. For lighting support, check the Windows Dynamic Lighting information and the device or motherboard maker’s documentation.
