Paymo is worth considering if you want project and task management, billable time tracking, and client invoicing in one service. Its main trade-offs are that the Free and Solo plans are restricted to one user, several important team-planning tools require Pro, and reviewers have reported limitations in the mobile experience. This review uses Paymo’s published feature and pricing information and attributed user feedback; it is not based on hands-on testing.
What Paymo does
Paymo positions itself as a work-management service for independent professionals, freelancers, agencies, and small teams handling client work. The appeal is the connection between project tasks, tracked time, and billing rather than a standalone task list. Paymo’s feature page also advertises estimates, expenses, collaboration, and project and client profitability tools.

According to the vendor, users can track time in a browser, desktop app, or mobile app, review timesheet reports, and use Paymo Track for automatic tracking. Task views include list, Kanban, spreadsheet, and calendar formats, with subtasks and comments. Other advertised capabilities include team scheduling, Gantt charts, client and guest collaboration, proofing and file sharing, invoicing, online payments, and profitability analysis. These are vendor-described features, not independently verified performance findings.
Paymo says it is used by “100,000+ independent professionals and small teams across the globe.” That is a company-published adoption figure, not an independently confirmed count.

Paymo pricing and plan differences
Paymo’s pricing page, accessed October 7, 2026, listed a 15-day free trial and USD prices. At that time, the page displayed a limited-time promotion for new customers or accounts created after September 25, 2026. Promotional prices may expire; check the current pricing page before subscribing. The page also advertises annual-billing discounts of up to 40%, depending on plan.

Free and Solo are single-user plans, so a team that needs multiple seats must consider Plus or Pro. Compare the per-user cost at the number of seats you actually need, using the non-promotional rate as the safer basis for an ongoing budget.

What the tiers mean in practice
- Free: A constrained way for one person to try the basic workflow, but the single-client and two-project caps limit ongoing use for many client-service businesses.
- Solo: Adds more room for an individual’s client work and calendar or Kanban views, but remains a one-user plan.
- Plus: The meaningful step up for teams and for users who need reporting, profitability, proofing, recurring billing, estimates, expenses, or integrations.
- Pro: Adds deeper planning and team controls, including dependencies, portfolio Gantt, workload scheduling, approvals, and leave management.
Paymo pros and cons
Pros
- Connected client-work workflow: Projects and tasks, time entries, and invoices are part of the same product, reducing the need to treat tracking and billing as entirely separate workflows.
- Free entry point: A solo user can start at no monthly charge, provided the one-client and two-project limits are adequate.
- Tiered capability: Paid plans progress from task views and time reports to profitability, proofing, invoicing tools, integrations, Gantt planning, scheduling, and approvals.
Cons and cautions
- Team seats cost extra: Free and Solo allow one user only; a growing team needs Plus or Pro, where pricing is per user.
- Advanced planning is in Pro: Dependencies, portfolio Gantt, workload scheduling, and timesheet approvals are not listed as Plus features.
- Mobile concerns have been reported: The Digital Project Manager’s review, listed as updated August 31, 2026, describes mobile functionality as less robust. G2 snippets also surface limited mobile functionality and integration concerns. These are reported user and reviewer concerns, not evidence that all customers encounter the same problems.
Who should use Paymo?
Paymo is a plausible fit for a freelancer or small client-service business that wants to connect billable hours and invoicing to project work. It is especially worth evaluating if the one-person Free or Solo plan is enough, or if the team needs Plus or Pro capabilities such as project profitability, estimates, expenses, approvals, or workload planning.
It may be a weaker fit if mobile project management is central to your daily work, given the reported mobile concerns, or if you need only a narrow project-tracking feature and would not use Paymo’s time-and-billing workflow. Those are fit judgments based on the advertised bundle and surfaced feedback, not the result of a controlled comparison.

How to decide whether Paymo is worth it
Before choosing a tier, map your actual workflow to the plan rather than comparing feature counts alone:
- Count users, clients, and active projects. Check whether the Free or Solo limits work, or whether your team needs a per-user Plus or Pro subscription.
- Identify the project views you need. Confirm whether calendar, Kanban, or spreadsheet views suffice, or whether task and portfolio Gantt charts and dependencies are necessary.
- Check time and approval requirements. Determine whether timesheet reports meet your needs or whether you require Pro’s timesheet approvals.
- List your billing workflow. Verify which tier provides the invoicing, recurring invoices, estimates, expenses, and profitability capabilities you plan to use.
- Confirm integrations and API access. Plus lists these features; check the current plan details for any changes that affect your setup.
- Test the mobile workflow and budget beyond the promotion. Use the trial to assess your own mobile tasks, time tracking, and client work, and price the plan at its regular rate for the number of users you expect.
Verdict
Paymo’s strongest case is an integrated project-to-invoice workflow for freelancers and small client-service teams. Its Free plan is useful only within tight individual limits; Plus is the team-oriented step that adds reporting, profitability, and billing depth, while Pro is necessary for several advanced planning and approval tools. The main reasons to hesitate are per-user costs for teams, Pro-gated planning features, and reported mobile limitations. Since this assessment is based on published product information and attributed feedback rather than hands-on testing, use the trial to validate your specific workflow.
