Discovery, assigning him day-to-day management and integration when the deal closes. The merger could eventually reshape Paramount+, HBO Max and Pluto, but Paramount has announced no combined app, subscription changes or migration plan. As of October 3, 2026, the deal was still pending; the companies expected to close it on October 6.
Why Paramount appointed a co-CEO
Paramount announced on September 30, 2026, that Ynon Kreiz would become co-CEO of the anticipated combined company, with the appointment taking effect at closing. The appointment is an operating and integration decision tied to the pending acquisition—not an announcement that the streaming services are already being combined.

Paramount chairman and CEO David Ellison will focus on long-term strategy, creative direction, talent relationships, strategic partnerships, technology and capital allocation. Kreiz is to oversee “the Company’s day-to-day operations and integration of the combined businesses,” according to Paramount’s announcement.

Ellison called bringing the companies together “a transformational moment for our industry.” Kreiz said he was excited to partner with Ellison to build a next-generation media and entertainment company serving global audiences across entertainment and distribution. These are the executives’ descriptions of their plans, not proof of what the combined company will deliver.

Will HBO Max and Paramount+ merge?
Paramount’s merger announcement proposed building a direct-to-consumer business around Paramount+, HBO Max and Pluto, with the aim of increasing reach and engagement. That is the strategic direction the company has described; it is not a consumer product announcement.
| Service | Proposed role in the announced strategy | What has been confirmed for subscribers |
|---|---|---|
| Paramount+ | One of the services around which Paramount proposed building its direct-to-consumer business | No combined-app plan, account transition or service change has been announced in the cited material. |
| HBO Max | One of the services named in the proposed direct-to-consumer business | No combined-app plan, account transition or service change has been announced in the cited material. |
| Pluto | Also named as part of the proposed direct-to-consumer strategy | No combined-app plan, account transition or service change has been announced in the cited material. |
Paramount has not announced a launch date for a combined service, whether any app will close, new prices, automatic account migration, or which individual titles will appear on which service. The proposal does not establish that all three services will become one app. For now, the eventual relationship among the services, their libraries and their distribution remains an open question.

Will a streaming subscription get more expensive?
No subscriber pricing change is established by the merger announcement. It does not say whether prices will rise or fall, whether plans will be bundled, or whether subscribers will need to take any action. Any claim about a specific future price or a required account change would go beyond what the companies have announced in the material available as of October 3.

The merger could give the combined owner choices about how to package and distribute its services and content, but an owner’s strategic options are not the same as a decision affecting customers. Until the companies publish consumer-facing terms, subscribers should not treat app consolidation, a price change or an automatic move as confirmed.

Is the Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery deal closed?
No, not as of October 3, 2026. A federal judge approved a settlement with 12 states on September 30. The Associated Press reported that the companies expected the merger to close on October 6, which was still a future expected date at the October 3 reporting point—not confirmation of a completed acquisition.
The UK Competition and Markets Authority cleared the proposed acquisition on August 6, 2026; its case record lists the inquiry as closed on August 17. The U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division said its investigation concluded that the transaction was not likely to harm competition or American consumers in streaming video on demand, linear television, or theatrical film studio activity. Those are the agencies’ conclusions, not a guarantee of particular prices, programming choices or app arrangements.

The DOJ said its eight-month investigation involved more than two million documents from over 80 custodians. Paramount Skydance Corporation separately reported that regulatory clearances involved 68 countries worldwide. These figures describe the agencies’ and company’s accounts of the review process; they do not resolve what subscribers will experience.

The SEC filing describing the state consent decree sets commitments for covered U.S. theatrical film releases during a five-year period: at least 30 films annually in each of the first two commitment years, followed by at least 32 annually in each of years three through five. The decree also specifies minimum counts for wide releases and independent films, as well as a theatrical window.

Those commitments concern covered theatrical films. They do not specify where every title in either company’s existing library will stream, or establish that a particular film will be available on a particular app.
What the reported “Skydance” name means
Axios reported on October 2 that the combined company would be called Skydance. The report said Ellison described the name as giving the combined company an identity while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. to remain prominent brands. That reported corporate name does not, by itself, announce a new streaming-service name or a change to existing apps.
