Paramount+ also recommends setting the device’s network settings to Automatic or restoring their defaults. If you never enabled a VPN or proxy, ask your internet service provider (ISP) to verify the IP address it assigns to you.
First, identify which problem you have
Paramount+ separates VPN/proxy warnings from general streaming errors and questions about watching while traveling. Follow the steps for the message or symptom you actually see; a playback fault is not proof that your connection has been flagged, and a VPN warning is not simply a buffering issue. Its VPN/proxy support page says the warning means it detected a VPN, proxy, or other service that may reroute traffic outside your current region.

- VPN/proxy warning: Follow the disable-and-reset steps below.
- Black screen, loading image, frozen app, or streaming error without that warning: Use the general playback checklist.
- Question about a show’s availability in another country: Check Paramount+’s current streaming and travel-availability guidance. The catalogue can depend on territory; these troubleshooting steps do not establish that a particular title is available where you are.
Fix a Paramount+ VPN or proxy warning
- Turn off the VPN, proxy, or other traffic-rerouting service on the device. Paramount+’s instruction is to disable these services to stream. Once disabled, reopen Paramount+ and try the stream again.
- Set the device’s network settings to Automatic or restore the defaults. The exact menu varies by device, so use the device maker’s instructions if you cannot find the setting. Paramount+ advises contacting the device maker or your ISP if the change does not resolve the warning.
- If you did not set up a VPN or proxy, contact your ISP. Ask it to verify the IP address associated with your connection. Paramount+ specifically recommends this when the viewer does not believe they are using a VPN or proxy.
Paramount+ does not document its precise detection method or guarantee that any particular setting change will clear the warning. Switching VPN servers or using another location-spoofing service is not the fix its support guidance recommends.
If Paramount+ has a playback problem but no VPN warning

- Update the browser and confirm that it is supported.
- Clear browser cache, cookies, and history.
- Reload the page or close and reopen the browser.
- Try another browser.
- Temporarily disable ad blocking.
If the playback fault continues, check your internet connection, restart the modem and router, then relaunch Paramount+. These general checks address playback trouble; they do not replace the VPN/proxy steps when that specific warning appears.
When to ask for help
If disabling the service and restoring automatic or default network settings do not clear the VPN/proxy warning, Paramount+ points viewers to the device maker or ISP. If you never configured a VPN or proxy, specifically ask the ISP to verify your IP address. Paramount+’s support index lists its VPN/proxy FAQ as dated September 9, 2025, alongside separate guidance for streaming errors and availability while traveling. Its instructions do not provide a territory-by-territory catalogue or promise access to a show in a particular country.
