What Paradise of Lucky Blocks is
Paradise of Lucky Blocks is a CurseForge modpack for Minecraft 1.8.9. Its project owner is listed as binkelderg_, and CurseForge categorizes it as a mini-game and exploration pack. The project description presents it as a way to make Lucky Blocks easier to try, with the promise that it is “A Lucky Block Modpack that guaranteed not gonna be boring.” A 2026 CurseForge snapshot reports 446,671 downloads.

The age of the base game matters. This is not a modern Minecraft pack that can be moved to 1.12, 1.16, 1.20, or another loader without rebuilding and testing the entire mod set. The supported target described by the project is Minecraft 1.8.9 with Forge, so treat that combination as a fixed compatibility boundary.
Requirements before you install
- A Minecraft installation that can launch version 1.8.9.
- The Forge 1.8.9 profile selected for the instance.
- The official Paradise of Lucky Blocks files from its CurseForge project page.
- Enough free disk space for the game, libraries, world saves, logs, and backups.
- For multiplayer, a client and server using the same Minecraft, Forge, and mod versions.
Close Minecraft before changing an instance’s files. Make a copy of any existing world before switching mod sets; opening a world with missing or changed content can cause missing-block errors or irreversible world changes.

How to install the modpack on a client
- Open the official CurseForge project page. Use its installation option for the Minecraft launcher or mod-management application you already use. Do not download a similarly named pack intended for another game version.
- Create or select the 1.8.9 instance. Confirm that the instance identifies Minecraft 1.8.9 and Forge, not vanilla 1.8.9 and not a newer Forge release.
- Let the launcher finish downloading. The first launch may take longer while libraries and mod files are installed. Wait for the profile to reach the main menu before adding personal mods.
- Launch once without custom changes. This establishes a clean baseline. If it fails, solve the version or Java issue before changing configuration files.
- Load a test world. Check that Lucky Blocks and the pack’s utility mods appear. Exit normally so the launcher writes its logs and configuration.
Why the exact Forge profile matters
Forge is the mod loader expected by this pack. Selecting a Fabric profile, a different Forge branch, or a current Minecraft release can produce a crash before the title screen, missing recipes, or a world that loads without the intended blocks. “Minecraft 1.8.9” alone is not sufficient; the loader and its build must also match the pack’s files.
What is included in the pack
The project page lists the following content:
| Category | Listed components | What they contribute |
|---|---|---|
| Core gameplay | Lucky Block | The random-event blocks that define the pack’s mini-game experience. |
| World and building tools | WorldEdit | Large-scale selection and editing commands for compatible worlds. |
| Recipe and item reference | Just Enough Items (JEI) | In-game item, recipe, and usage lookup. |
| Trading and progression | Custom Trades Mod, Potion Core, Loot++, UnordinaryExtras | Additional trades, effects, loot behavior, and extra content listed by the project. |
| Performance and maintenance | BetterFps, Fast Leaf Decay, FoamFix | Optimization and quality-of-life changes intended for the older 1.8.9 environment. |
The latest project information also says ArmorPlus, FancyMenu, and Konkrete were removed for compatibility or availability reasons. Do not copy those removed files from an old installation into a current instance unless you are deliberately maintaining a separate, unsupported setup.

- Learn your way around one block at atime in the new tutorial mode
- Craft all sorts of items from boats todiamond armor and create enormousstructures
- Team up with friends in eight-playeronline multiplayer and four-player splitscreen modes
- Download the matching server pack. Obtain the Paradise of Lucky Blocks Server Pack ZIP identified by CurseForge as a Minecraft 1.8.9 Forge server pack. Do not use a client profile ZIP as a server distribution.
- Create a new server directory. Use a dedicated folder rather than placing the files in your client’s
.minecraftdirectory. This keeps server worlds and logs separate from local saves. - Extract the ZIP without an extra nesting level. The Forge files, libraries, scripts, and configuration folders should be directly inside the server directory. A common mistake is ending up with
server/Paradise-of-Lucky-Blocks-server/and running the script from the wrong level. - Install a Java runtime compatible with Forge 1.8.9. Follow the runtime requirement shown by the server pack or launcher. If the script reports that Java is missing, point the startup script to the full Java executable path rather than installing a newer game version.
- Run the Forge server once. Allow it to generate configuration files and the EULA file. Read the EULA, accept it only if you agree, and then restart the server.
- Set an explicit server name and gameplay options. Edit
server.propertiesfor the port, view distance, difficulty, whitelist, and other settings. Keep view distance conservative while testing performance. - Start with a fresh test world. Join locally or from a second client, break several Lucky Blocks, inspect JEI, and test any commands you plan to give players.
- Back up before inviting players. Stop the server cleanly, copy the world and configuration directories, and retain dated backups outside the live server folder.
Network and access checklist
- Give players the server address and port shown in
server.properties; the default port should not be assumed if you changed it. - Allow the Java process through the host firewall.
- If the server is behind a home router, forward the chosen TCP port to the server computer and verify that your internet provider permits inbound connections.
- Use a whitelist for a private group and grant operator status only to trusted administrators.
- Never expose a test server with unrestricted operator access while you are still changing mods.
Choosing the right server pack
| Path | Best for | Advantages | Responsibilities or limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Paradise of Lucky Blocks server pack | Administrators who want maximum control | Direct access to Forge, configs, worlds, scripts, backups, and permissions. | You install Java and Forge, extract files correctly, maintain backups, and resolve mod mismatches. |
| Performance Update Serverpack | Servers or clients under noticeable frame-rate or entity pressure | Its listed optimization set includes Better FPS, Entity Culling, Fast Leaf Decay, FoamFix, and Patcher. | It is a separate variant. Everyone joining should use the corresponding client and server content rather than mixing packs casually. |
| Managed hosting | Groups that prefer a control panel and guided deployment | WinterNode advertises one-click installation and preinstalled Forge mods; Modpacks.ch advertises dedicated setup matched to the pack. | Features, pricing, backups, locations, and support policies depend on the provider. A provider’s RAM guidance is not an official pack specification. |
For a home server, start with the standard pack if you are comfortable maintaining Java, firewall rules, and backups. Choose the performance variant when the optimization mods address a problem you can observe, not simply because more mods sound faster. Managed hosting reduces setup work but gives the provider control over the underlying machine and billing terms.
Client and server parity: the rule that prevents most joins from failing
The joining client and the server must agree on Minecraft 1.8.9, Forge, and the active mod set. A client can sometimes open a world with an extra client-only utility, but a server-side content mismatch commonly produces a missing-mod screen, registry errors, immediate disconnects, or a crash.
- Install the same standard or performance variant on every player’s client.
- Keep the server’s
modsdirectory and each client’smodsdirectory aligned. - Do not update one mod on only one side.
- When replacing a pack, shut down the server and have all players update before reconnecting.
- Record the working ZIP and configuration files so you can restore a known-good state.
Fixing the duplicated Lucky Block JAR error
The project page documents a historical error in which two copies of lucky-block-forge-1.8.9-2.0.jar appeared in the mods folder. Forge treats duplicate copies as conflicting files rather than harmless backups.

- Stop Minecraft or the server completely.
- Open the relevant instance or server
modsfolder. - Search for every file named
lucky-block-forge-1.8.9-2.0.jar, including copies in a nested folder. - Keep one copy and remove the duplicate. Do not delete unrelated Lucky Block add-ons unless the error identifies them.
- Start the same Forge 1.8.9 profile again and confirm that the main menu or server console completes loading.
If the duplicate returns, inspect the launcher’s mod-management settings and any automatic import process. Reinstalling without removing the source duplicate can simply recreate the same failure.
How much RAM does the server need?
No authoritative minimum RAM specification from the pack author is published. The only concrete figure in the available hosting guidance is WinterNode’s recommendation of 4 GB for a small group. That is a provider recommendation for its service, not a guaranteed minimum, benchmark, or official requirement for every installation.
Use the number as a starting point when choosing a managed plan, then observe the actual server. RAM demand changes with player count, loaded chunks, view distance, entity-heavy Lucky Block events, Java overhead, and other processes on the machine. A server that starts successfully can still suffer pauses if the operating system is forced to swap or if the Java heap is repeatedly exhausted.

Practical memory checks
- Leave operating-system headroom instead of assigning all physical memory to Java.
- Watch the server console and host control panel for out-of-memory messages, long garbage-collection pauses, or steadily rising usage.
- Lower view distance and reduce unnecessary entities before adding unrelated optimization software.
- Increase the allocation only after confirming that the problem is memory pressure rather than CPU load, a bad mod, or a duplicate file.
- For a managed plan, ask the provider whether its advertised RAM is dedicated, shared, or burstable; the pack itself does not define those hosting terms.
Performance tuning for an older 1.8.9 pack
The author warns that the older base version and the large collection of Lucky Blocks can reduce performance, particularly on older PCs. Performance work should proceed from the least disruptive checks to the most invasive changes.

- Remove duplicates. Resolve duplicate Lucky Block JARs and any other repeated files before changing settings.
- Use the Performance Update Serverpack when appropriate. Its listed components—Better FPS, Entity Culling, Fast Leaf Decay, FoamFix, and Patcher—show that it is designed for optimization within this pack’s environment.
- Reduce view distance. Lower the server and client values while testing crowded areas or repeated Lucky Block events.
- Control entity load. Clear abandoned drops and mobs created by chaotic events, and avoid repeatedly triggering large numbers of blocks in one loaded area.
- Check RAM allocation. Compare actual usage and pauses with the host’s available memory rather than assuming that a larger allocation fixes every lag symptom.
- Change one variable at a time. Keep a note of each setting so you can revert a change that worsens stability.
Do not add modern optimization mods built for a different Minecraft version or loader. A mod that is excellent for a current release may fail to load, silently do nothing, or introduce another compatibility problem in 1.8.9.

The launcher opens the wrong Minecraft version
Inspect the instance profile before reinstalling. Select Minecraft 1.8.9 with Forge, remove a newly selected modern profile, and launch the clean pack once. A version mismatch is more likely than a corrupted world when the failure happens before the title screen.

Players receive a missing-mod or registry error
Compare the client and server mod folders and confirm that every player installed the same standard or performance variant. Remove personal additions temporarily, restart both sides, and test with a clean client.
The game launches but runs poorly
Confirm the correct Forge instance, lower view distance, reduce entity-heavy activity, and evaluate the performance server pack. Check RAM and CPU behavior before installing unrelated third-party software. The pack’s older version and many Lucky Block effects can make short-lived spikes look like a permanent memory problem.
A world loses blocks or recipes after a change
Stop using the affected world and restore the pre-change backup. Recheck the mod list and version, then test the replacement configuration in a disposable world before attempting recovery of the original save.
Maintenance and update expectations
The author’s update notice says the pack will no longer receive frequent updates because it is based on an older Minecraft version and already contains many Lucky Blocks. The notice describes the pack as complete and fully playable. That means administrators should favor stability over chasing modern versions.
- Keep an untouched copy of the original server ZIP.
- Back up worlds before changing Forge, mods, or configuration files.
- Document the exact working files and Java launch command.
- Test changes on a copy of the world first.
- Tell players when the server is changing variants so they do not join with stale files.
Self-hosting or managed hosting: a decision guide
Choose self-hosting when
- You need full control over files, permissions, ports, backups, and Java settings.
- You can troubleshoot Forge 1.8.9 startup logs and maintain a secure network.
- You are willing to monitor the machine while players are online.
Choose managed hosting when
- You want a control panel or one-click deployment instead of manual ZIP extraction.
- You prefer the host to handle machine maintenance and basic support.
- You accept recurring service costs and provider-specific limits on files, locations, and backups.
Before ordering, verify that the plan supports Forge 1.8.9, permits custom modpacks, provides the memory you need, and lets you download your world and configuration backups. Treat the advertised 4 GB figure as a small-group starting recommendation, not proof that every group size or event pattern will perform identically.
Quick Recap
A reliable first-session checklist
- Launch the client with Minecraft 1.8.9 and Forge.
- Open a test world and verify Lucky Block behavior, JEI, and the expected utilities.
