Start with the Pal you want, then reverse-search its current parent pairs. Palworld 1.0 changed or reviewed breeding combinations, so many Early Access charts can now return the wrong species. A reliable breeding project uses a current 1.0 calculator or table, verifies the exact pair in your game version, and only then optimizes passives, potentials, skills, and mutations.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Palworld servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
This guide explains the breeding formula, fixed recipes, farm requirements, Cake choices, server settings, and a repeatable workflow for solo and community servers. The figures below reflect current fan-maintained 1.0 data and official server documentation available in September 2026; recheck every route after a game patch.

Palworld breeding is not a simple list of universal combinations. Most different-species pairs use a breeding-power calculation, while same-species pairs and fixed special recipes override that calculation. Version 1.0 also reviewed breeding combinations across the game and introduced mutated eggs. Consequently, a route copied from an Early Access chart may hatch a different Pal than expected.
Current tools illustrate the scale of the problem. PalToolkit’s Palworld 1.0.5 database, updated September 29, 2026, covers 299 Pals, 44,850 parent-pair combinations and 136 special recipes. Another current table lists 44,851 possible parent-pair rows. The one-row difference comes from how the databases count entries, not from a guaranteed in-game discrepancy. Treat those numbers as database scope, and record the tool version beside every recipe shared on a server.

Requirements for a breeding run
Build and unlock the Breeding Farm
Unlock the Breeding Farm at Technology Level 19. PalworldCenter’s version 1.0.4 setup guide lists the construction cost as 10 Wooden Board, 20 Stone and 50 Fiber. Build the farm inside the base where the parents are available.
Assign compatible parents
Assign one male and one female Pal from your base to the farm. Gender normally only determines whether a pair can breed; it does not change the result. There is a documented current exception: Katress plus Wixen can produce Katress Ignis or Wixen Noct depending on which parent is male, so verify gender for that route.

Supply Cake
Put Cake in the Breeding Farm’s chest before starting. Each egg consumes one Cake, and breeding stops when the chest is empty. A farm with a correct pair but no Cake will not continue producing eggs.
- Technology requirement: Level 19.
- Construction materials: 10 Wooden Board, 20 Stone and 50 Fiber.
- Parents: one male and one female assigned from the base.
- Consumable: one Cake per egg.
- Operational check: Cake must be in the farm chest, not merely stored elsewhere in the base.
How the normal breeding formula works
For two different species without a fixed special recipe, use each parent’s breeding-power value. Add the two values, add 1, divide by 2, and round down. The child is the Pal whose breeding-power value is closest to that result. Same-species pairs always hatch that species, and fixed recipes are checked as overrides before relying on the average.
The formula is a way to understand a calculator’s answer, not a substitute for checking the current game table. Equal-distance ties can occur, and a tool that reads the game’s complete data is less error-prone than copying numbers into a spreadsheet.
| Parents | Parent breeding powers | Target calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Depresso + Lifmunk | 3,000 + 3,020 | (3,000 + 3,020 + 1) ÷ 2, rounded down = 3,010 | Sparkit |
| Direhowl + Tanzee | 2,680 + 2,900 | (2,680 + 2,900 + 1) ÷ 2, rounded down = 2,790 | Fuddler |
These worked examples come from PalworldCenter’s version 1.0.4 guide. They demonstrate the arithmetic; they do not replace a current pair lookup when a special recipe or tie is possible.

Fixed recipes and same-species exceptions
Current tables list 136 fixed special pairs. A fixed pair ignores the normal average and produces the named result. Check these overrides first when planning an elemental variant or other special Pal.
| Parent 1 | Parent 2 | Fixed child | Route type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kitsun | Nyafia | Kitsun Noct | Special recipe |
| Incineram | Maraith | Incineram Noct | Special recipe |
| Mau | Pengullet | Mau Cryst | Special recipe |
| Caprity | Tarantriss | Caprity Noct | Special recipe |
| Vanwyrm | Foxcicle | Vanwyrm Cryst | Special recipe |
Legendary and powerful Pals that require two of the same species
PalworldCenter’s current 1.0.4 table identifies Grizzbolt, Orserk and Faleris as examples of Pals that are same-species-only in that dataset. To breed one, obtain both a male and a female of the species first; crossing two unrelated species will not shortcut that requirement.
How to find the best combo for a target Pal
There is no single best pair independent of your goal. The best route is the one that produces the target reliably while fitting your available parents, trait quality, Cake budget and server rules.
- Name the finished job. Decide whether the child is for combat, movement, ranch production, base work or an intermediate step in a longer chain. A pair that reaches the right species quickly may be poor for a combat build if both parents carry unwanted traits.
- Reverse-search the target child. Enter the desired Pal in a current 1.0 calculator and list every parent pair. Do not start from two Pals you happen to own and assume the result is useful.
- Classify each route. Mark it as a fixed recipe, same-species result or normal rank-formula result. Confirm whether gender matters, especially for Katress and Wixen.
- Check parent access. Note whether each parent is already in the base, an early catch, a raid or legendary acquisition, or the endpoint of another breeding chain.
- Verify the pair in the direct calculator. Confirm the game/database version, parent order, species names and any special exception immediately before assigning the Pals.
- Choose the Cake for the current bottleneck. Use an ordinary production approach while proving the species, then switch to a mutation, passive or potential-focused Cake when the species is established.
- Hatch a useful sample. Keep enough eggs to compare passives, potentials and active skills rather than stopping at the first technically correct child.
- Use the best child in the next generation. Record its traits and potential values, remove inferior parents from the breeding line, and repeat until the finished role is met.
Comparing route types on a shared server
When players propose a recipe in Discord or a shared spreadsheet, compare routes on the same five axes. This prevents a theoretically short chain from becoming the slowest option in practice.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fixed special recipe | Highest when the pair is verified | May require two specific or rare species | One Cake per egg; parent traits still matter | Good for coordinated groups that can source both parents |
| Same-species pair | Species is guaranteed | Requires male and female of the target | Best for refining traits and potentials already present | Practical when the species has been caught or traded |
| Normal rank-formula pair | Calculator-dependent; ties are possible | Often offers several accessible alternatives | Choose parents with clean passive pools | Flexible for early or resource-limited servers |
| Multi-step chain | Each generation must be checked | Can avoid a rare direct parent, but adds stages | More eggs and more opportunities for trait dilution | Best when several players can split generations and materials |
Choosing Cake for the job
Cake effects in the cited current sources are qualitative. Official descriptions and pinned data do not publish exact mutation or inheritance percentages, so do not promise a numerical improvement or calculate an exact number of eggs from a Cake type.
| Cake | Reported use | When to use it | What is not established |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mushroom Cake | Slightly raises the chance of higher-stat newborns | When newborn stat quality is the immediate bottleneck | No official percentage in the cited sources |
| Vegetable Cake | Produces two eggs | When egg volume matters more than specialized quality | No guaranteed trait or mutation rate |
| Deluxe Vegetable Cake | Improves mutation likelihood and stat growth | When pursuing mutated eggs or stronger newborn statistics | Exact mutation and growth percentages are unpublished |
| Special Cake | Improves the chance of inheriting several parent passives | When the species is proven and passive inheritance is the bottleneck | No official multi-passive percentage in the cited sources |
Use a Cake that matches the current problem rather than applying the most specialized item from the first egg. More eggs can be valuable while you are testing a species route; passive-focused or mutation-focused options make more sense after the parents and target are confirmed.
Rank #3
Breeding passives without diluting the pool
A child can carry up to four passives drawn from both parents. The PalCalc model cited by PalworldCenter estimates a 40% chance of inheriting one parent passive, 30% for two, 20% for three and 10% for four. Those are modeled odds, not an official Pocketpair guarantee.
Clean the parents before serious production
- Remove unwanted passives from both parents whenever possible. Every extra trait can dilute the pool you are trying to pass on.
- Keep a parent that carries a desired passive without several competing negatives.
- Do not discard an apparently imperfect child until you have recorded its useful combination; it may be the best bridge to the next generation.
- Breed for species first, then select the cleanest child for passive work. Trying to solve species, passives and mutations in one uncertain generation makes failures difficult to diagnose.
For a four-passive build, expect selection rather than a guaranteed first hatch. Hatch multiple eggs, compare the complete trait lists, and keep the strongest candidate as the parent for the next generation.

Potentials (often called IVs)
The cited guide treats HP, Attack and Defense potentials as inherited values with modeled chances of 50% for one, 33% for two and 17% for all three; remaining values are rolled. These figures are model estimates. If high potentials matter, hatch a batch and compare values instead of assuming the first child reflects the parents perfectly.
Active skills
Active skills are a separate optimization target from passives. Once the species and passive line are stable, compare children for the moves required by the Pal’s role. Keep the best child for the next generation rather than restarting the entire route because one egg lacks a preferred skill.
Mutated eggs added in version 1.0
Version 1.0 added mutated eggs. Mutation-focused Cake can improve the likelihood, but no exact, source-backed mutation percentage is available in the cited descriptions or pinned data. Treat mutation as a chance-based outcome, document the Cake and server settings used, and avoid claiming that a particular number of eggs should produce one.
Server settings that affect breeding projects
Pocketpair’s official server guide states that the configuration directory is created only after the server has started. Operators should start the server, copy the default settings file, and edit PalWorldSettings.ini. Editing DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini does not apply gameplay changes.

Breeding-related controls
The documented parameters include PalEggDefaultHatchingTime, which controls egg hatching time, along with broader settings such as BaseCampWorkerMaxNum and GuildPlayerMaxNum. The first directly changes how quickly a breeding queue becomes playable; the latter two affect how many workers and players a shared project can support. Record the server platform, game version and non-default values beside every recipe list.
- Start the server once so its configuration directory and default files exist.
- Copy the supplied default settings into the server’s active configuration as directed by the official documentation.
- Edit
PalWorldSettings.ini, notDefaultPalWorldSettings.ini. - Set the egg-hatching value and any other agreed progression controls.
- Restart the server and verify the setting with a test egg before committing rare parents or expensive Cake.
- Publish the platform, version, hatching setting and date with the community’s breeding recipes.
Faster hatching changes the time cost, not the parent-child recipe. A server with accelerated eggs still needs a current 1.0 pair lookup, and a recipe discovered under one game version should not be assumed valid after an update.
A practical record for community breeding
Use one shared row per target and generation. Include the target Pal, parent species and genders, calculator/database version, fixed-recipe or formula classification, parent traits, potential notes, Cake type, server platform, hatching setting and the date checked.
For a multi-player project, add an owner and a status such as parents needed, species confirmed, trait breeding or complete. This stops players from repeating an obsolete route or consuming rare parents before the species result has been verified. Attach the exact calculator result or table entry used, but do not treat a fan database as permanent: update the row after every Palworld patch.
Troubleshooting incorrect results
The egg is the wrong species
- Check the game version and calculator/database date.
- Search the child backward again; an Early Access route may have changed in 1.0.
- Check for a fixed special recipe that overrides the average.
- Confirm that you did not confuse a similarly named elemental variant.
- Recalculate ties with a current tool rather than rounding manually.
No egg appears
- Confirm that one male and one female are assigned to the Breeding Farm.
- Verify both Pals are from the current base and are not assigned to another task.
- Put Cake in the farm chest and check that at least one remains.
- Confirm the farm is built and unlocked at Technology Level 19.
Children have too many unwanted traits
Clean both parents before continuing. The inheritance model draws from both passive pools, so carrying unwanted traits forward makes the desired combination less likely. Keep the best clean child and use it as the next-generation parent.
Hatching does not match the advertised server rate
Verify that the active file is PalWorldSettings.ini, that the server was restarted after editing, and that the configuration directory was created after the first server start. Check the platform and version as well; a local or hosted configuration may not use the same file layout.
Bottom line for choosing a combo
Use a current reverse lookup, verify special and gender exceptions, and prove the species before optimizing the child. Then improve passives, potentials, active skills and mutations in separate stages, using a Cake suited to the current bottleneck. On a shared server, publish the exact parents, version, Cake and hatching settings so another player can reproduce the result. This process is slower than trusting an old chart for one attempt, but it prevents entire generations of eggs from being built on an obsolete recipe.
