OrcFlows is a workflow automation and AI-agent platform that uses Temporal for durable execution. Its documentation describes persisted workflow history, retries, and recovery after worker failures—but that does not guarantee an external payment, message, or API call happens exactly once. For overnight reliability, the workflow must be designed so repeated side effects are safe.
What OrcFlows does
OrcFlows presents itself as a visual workflow platform and AI agent runtime, with hosted plans and a self-hostable Community Edition. A workflow is a directed graph of steps represented internally as a JSON-based DSL. Users can build with a visual canvas, use the API, import or export workflows, or generate them from natural-language instructions. OrcFlows’ homepage and workflow documentation describe those options.

OrcFlows identifies Temporal as its durable execution engine. Temporal records workflow event history so the workflow can be reconstructed after a worker crash. As Temporal’s official workflow documentation puts it: “This replay mechanism makes Temporal Workflows durable and fault-tolerant.” That describes recovery of orchestration state; it does not, by itself, make every operation performed by an outside service happen once.

What “doesn’t break at 3 a.m.” means in practice
A durable workflow can resume from its recorded history rather than losing all progress when a worker stops. OrcFlows documents retries and recovery, and its workflow DSL exposes an overall timeout, a default retry count, per-step retry and delay settings, an optional error workflow, and a continue-on-error mode. The OrcFlows workflow documentation describes these controls.

They help manage failures, but they do not eliminate them. A network timeout can leave a workflow uncertain whether an external system completed an action. A retry may then call that system again. Temporal’s task documentation explains that an Activity Task is one attempt and can have multiple executions; completed results can be reconstructed from event history, while retryable work may run again. Its Activity execution documentation and Nexus documentation describe the retry and at-least-once invocation model and recommend idempotent handlers.
Durable progress is not exactly-once delivery
For workflow state, replay lets Temporal recover what the workflow had recorded. For a side effect in another system, such as charging a card or sending a message, a retry can invoke the operation more than once unless the receiving system or workflow prevents duplicates. “Exactly once” is therefore meaningful only when the system boundary and safeguards are specified; durable orchestration alone is not that safeguard.

Design retries around the action
- Identify transient failures. Retry errors that may clear, such as temporary unavailability, rather than treating every error as retryable.
- Set limits and delays. Use bounded retries and deliberate delays so a persistent outage does not trigger an unbounded stream of attempts.
- Protect side effects. Use an idempotency key or deduplication mechanism supported by the destination for payments, messages, and other actions where duplicates matter.
- Handle persistent failure. Configure an error workflow or alerting path and decide explicitly whether continuing after a failed step is safe.
- Test interruption points. Check what happens if a worker stops before an action, during a request, or after the destination accepts it but before the workflow records success.
Integrations: published totals do not match
OrcFlows’ connector overview says it documents 66 built-in connectors and gives examples including Datadog, PagerDuty, Grafana, and GitHub Actions. The homepage instead advertises “120+” connectors. Both are OrcFlows pages, and neither explains the difference, so the figures should not be treated as interchangeable. Check that the specific connector and operations your workflow needs are available before choosing the platform. Connector overview.

As accessed on October 4, 2026, OrcFlows’ undated homepage reported a test of 216,474 requests with zero failures, using 200 concurrent Locust users over eight minutes. The company described it as a live five-step Temporal workflow test with PostgreSQL persistence. This is a vendor-published benchmark, not an independently reproduced reliability study, and it does not establish how a different workflow or production environment will perform. OrcFlows homepage.

- Deployment: decide whether hosted service or self-hosting through the Community Edition fits your operational and security requirements.
- Connector coverage: verify each required integration and the particular actions it supports, rather than relying on a headline connector total.
- Retry safety: inspect retry counts, delays, timeouts, and failure handling step by step; confirm that repeated external actions are idempotent or deduplicated.
- Operations: determine whether the execution visibility and approval controls available meet your team’s needs, and define how persistent failures reach an on-call person.
- Plan fit: verify current limits, features, and pricing against the workflow’s expected use.
OrcFlows’ pages describe a platform designed for persistent, recoverable workflow execution. Whether a particular automation is safe to leave running unattended depends on its integrations, its retry policy, and the protections around every consequential external action.
