OPSWAT lists cloud, AWS-account, and on-premises deployment options, but the right fit depends on the exact formats and sanitization controls your organization needs. Its coverage and test figures are vendor-published claims, not a guarantee for your environment.
What OPSWAT Deep CDR does
Content Disarm and Reconstruction (CDR) is a file-sanitization approach. Rather than relying only on detecting known malware, it processes a file to remove or handle potentially harmful objects and creates a reconstructed version intended to remain usable. OPSWAT describes the aim as reducing risk while retaining a usable file; that does not mean every feature or behavior of every original file will be preserved.

OPSWAT describes this five-stage workflow on its Deep CDR product page:
- Evaluate and verify: identify the file type and check its consistency.
- Create a placeholder: prepare a structure to hold approved content.
- Disarm and rebuild: process the file and reconstruct it using approved objects.
- Test and validate: check the regenerated file.
- Quarantine the original: separate the source file from the reconstructed output.
This is a description of the vendor’s process, not an independent assessment of implementation or results.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
File coverage: what the numbers establish
OPSWAT’s current product page advertises support for 200+ file types. That is the vendor’s current headline, not an independently audited measure of how many formats, versions, or file variants can be sanitized in a particular deployment. The page directs readers to inspect supported versions, sample files, and performance data.
An older OPSWAT CDR Selection Guide, published around 2020, says the system identifies over 4,500 file types and sanitizes over 100 common types. Those figures describe different scopes from the current 200+ headline and should not be combined into a single coverage claim.

- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Before selecting the product, verify the specific extension and version in your environment, the sanitization actions applied to it, and how the system handles files it cannot process. A broad file-type count alone does not establish that a required document variant will be sanitized as needed.

Deployment options and buyer trade-offs
OPSWAT lists three deployment choices: MetaDefender Cloud, MetaDefender AMI deployed in a customer’s AWS account, and MetaDefender Core for on-premises environments. The deployment name alone does not establish which file-handling controls or integrations are available; confirm those details for the configuration being quoted.

The reviewed materials do not establish current prices, licensing metrics, service-level commitments, or performance guarantees for an individual buyer. Ask OPSWAT to document those terms and validate capacity against your own workloads.
Cloud configuration and file preservation
OPSWAT’s MetaDefender Cloud data-sanitization documentation says Deep CDR uses a standard configuration for all users that cannot be adapted to individual user needs. It describes format-specific actions, including macro or embedded-object handling for Office files and script handling for HTML and SVG. If your policy requires choosing or tuning specific sanitization actions, confirm whether that is possible in the product and deployment you plan to use.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The same documentation says sanitized files retain their original format rather than being converted to another format. Keeping the format does not prove that all document features, metadata, application behavior, or workflows remain unchanged: the documented actions themselves can remove or alter content.

Unsupported files and sanitization failures
OPSWAT’s MetaDefender Storage Security Deep CDR documentation describes configuration-dependent handling:
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Unsupported file types: Deep CDR cannot sanitize them. They remain in their original state and follow the configured unsupported-file branch.
- Sanitization failures: when block-on-failure is configured, a failed file can be routed to blocked handling. Without that setting, the original verdict may be preserved and the original file left where it is.
- Empty non-text files: the documentation identifies these as a failure case.
These behaviors make policy configuration part of the security decision. Test unsupported formats and failure cases using representative files, then verify the actual destination or disposition under your configured rules. Do not assume that a file was sanitized merely because it passed through a workflow that includes Deep CDR.
How to read the effectiveness claims
OPSWAT’s product page, accessed in 2026, advertises a 100% sanitization rate in an AV-Comparatives review, a 100% total accuracy rating from SE Labs, and a 100% rating in a SecureIQ Lab CDR test. These are claims made by OPSWAT about named reports. The underlying reports were not available for scope review here, so the figures should not be treated as universal results or as a guarantee for a buyer’s files, policies, and integrations.
OPSWAT’s Deep CDR Technology Report displays examples of files and before-and-after multi-engine detection counts. OPSWAT says those samples were uploaded by customers and community members. They illustrate individual cases; they are not a representative independent benchmark.

That is a customer quotation published by the vendor, not a test result or a performance measurement for other environments.
Quick Recap
What to validate before choosing it
- List the file extensions, versions, and representative samples your users actually exchange.
- For each format, confirm the supported sanitization actions and whether the resulting files retain the functions your workflows require.
- Choose the deployment only after checking data residency, control requirements, integrations, and who operates and maintains each component.
- Determine how unsupported files and sanitization failures are routed, including whether block-on-failure is enabled.
- Run acceptance tests against your own files and policies, including empty non-text files and unsupported formats.
- Request the underlying test reports and review their scope before using headline percentages to inform a risk decision.
