Oppo F5: Specifications, Variants and Whether It’s Worth Buying in 2026

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Oppo F5 is a 2017 selfie-focused Android phone with a 6-inch Full HD+ screen, a 20MP front camera and a MediaTek Helio P23 processor. It remains recognizable as an inexpensive older handset, but in 2026 its Android 7.1-era software, aging hardware and uncertain battery condition make it a poor choice as a main phone. Check the exact variant before comparing specifications: the F5, F5 6GB, F5 Youth and Sidharth Limited Edition are related but not interchangeable models.

What the Oppo F5 is

Oppo introduced the F5 in late 2017 as a selfie-oriented member of its F-series. It was announced in the Philippines in October and launched in India later that month, with sales beginning November 9. Oppo described it as its first F-series phone in India with an 18:9 “full-screen” display; that meant a taller screen than the common 16:9 format of the time, not a bezel-free design. Its headline features were a 20MP front camera, AI Beauty processing and a 6-inch 2160 × 1080 display. Oppo’s India launch announcement gives the company’s original positioning and specifications.

“Oppo F5” can mean the product family generally or, in many listings, the standard 4GB RAM/32GB storage configuration. Verify the RAM, storage and regional model rather than relying on a listing title alone.

Oppo F5 specifications

These are the commonly listed specifications for the standard F5. Storage, colors, network bands, NFC and bundled accessories can vary by market.

The specifications are summarized in Oppo’s launch material and contemporary coverage. For a particular used phone, confirm its model and regional configuration in Settings; a spec sheet for another market may not describe that unit.

F5 variants: standard, 6GB, Youth and Sidharth Edition

Version RAM and storage What distinguishes it
Oppo F5 standard 4GB RAM, 32GB storage in the Indian launch configuration Base model and most common reference for “Oppo F5.”
Oppo F5 6GB 6GB RAM; 32GB or 64GB storage, depending on market and listing Higher-memory version. Oppo announced it in India at ₹24,990 in November 2017. See the F5 6GB announcement.
Oppo F5 Youth Market-dependent; verify the specific unit A separate lower-cost derivative, not another name for the standard F5. Do not apply the standard F5’s specifications to it without checking its regional model.
Oppo F5 Sidharth Limited Edition Generally based on the standard F5; storage depends on market A limited blue-finish edition announced in India at ₹19,990 in February 2018. Oppo cited the same 20MP front and 16MP rear camera specifications. See the edition announcement.

Listings for the 6GB model are not consistent about storage because 32GB and 64GB configurations were both reported. Compare the exact configuration, not just the “6GB” label; one listing identifies a 6GB/32GB version, while another identifies a 6GB/64GB version.

Display and design

The 6-inch 2160 × 1080 LCD was a useful feature for a mid-range phone in 2017: it offered a sharper, taller viewing area than many contemporaries with 16:9 screens. The 18:9 “full-screen” description refers to the aspect ratio. The F5 still has visible bezels and uses an LCD/TFT-type panel, not OLED. It should not be judged by current expectations for high refresh rates, HDR or edge-to-edge construction.

Performance in everyday use

The Helio P23 was a mid-range 2017 processor. It was suited to messaging, web browsing, social apps, video playback and casual games at the time, but demanding current games and heavy multitasking are a poor fit for its age. The 6GB variant can keep more apps in memory than the 4GB version, but additional RAM does not make the chipset or graphics hardware modern.

A contemporary Android Authority review characterized the F5 as prioritizing camera appeal over top-tier specifications for its price and criticized its charging hardware. A used phone’s actual responsiveness will also depend on its condition, storage load and software state.

Camera: selfie features first

20MP front camera and AI Beauty

The front camera is 20MP with an f/2.0 aperture. Oppo marketed its AI Beauty feature as analyzing facial shape and structure to tailor beautification, with different treatment intended for men, women, children and babies. Those are Oppo’s launch claims, not evidence of modern generative or advanced multi-frame imaging. The feature is best understood as face enhancement: depending on settings, it can smooth or alter a selfie enough to look less natural.

OPPO Reno14 F Dual-SIM 256GB ROM + 8GB RAM (GSM Only | No CDMA) Factory Unlocked 5G Smartphone (Luminous Green) - International Version
  • 6.57 inches, AMOLED, 1B colors, 1080 x 2372 pixels
  • 256GB Storage, 8GB RAM, microSDXC
  • Android 15, ColorOS 15, Qualcomm SM6450 Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 (4 nm), Octa-core (4x2.2 GHz Cortex-A78 & 4x1.8 GHz Cortex-A55)

  • 158.1 x 75 x 7.7 mm (6.22 x 2.95 x 0.30 in)

Megapixels describe image resolution, not overall image quality. The F5’s front-camera portrait mode creates software-based background blur; it is not the result of a modern depth-sensing system. A contemporary specification overview also describes the phone’s selfie-focused launch positioning.

16MP rear camera

The rear camera is 16MP with an f/1.8 aperture and LED flash. The aperture can help admit light, but it does not by itself guarantee good low-light images. The F5 lacks the newer sensors, stabilization and processing found in recent phones, so daylight is a more realistic use case than expecting dependable night photography.

Battery, charging and connections

The original battery rating is 3,200mAh and the battery is non-removable. Contemporary coverage described its battery life favorably, but that observation does not predict how long a surviving unit will last: a battery from a 2017 phone may have degraded substantially. Replacement availability and quality vary by location and repair provider.

Android Authority’s review criticized the lack of USB-C and fast charging. A buyer should therefore inspect the charging port and confirm the cable connection is stable instead of assuming the phone offers current charging convenience. Check the exact regional model’s network specifications against the intended carrier; a complete region-specific LTE band list is not established here, so compatibility should not be assumed from the F5 name alone.

Software and app support in 2026

The F5 launched with Android 7.1 Nougat and ColorOS 3.2. Current listings still identify Android 7.1, but a specific later upgrade should not be assumed without a regional update record. Gadgets 360’s F5 listing includes the listed operating system and current configuration information.

In 2026, Android 7.1 is a serious drawback for a connected primary phone: security patches are old, and some current apps, banking or payment services, work tools, websites and authentication flows may not support the device reliably. That does not mean every app will fail, but compatibility cannot be taken for granted. Avoid using an unsupported handset for sensitive accounts if a supported alternative is available. After a factory reset, setup can also be difficult if the previous owner’s Google account or screen lock remains attached.

Oppo’s current model-comparison page does not list the F5 among current smartphones, which supports treating it as an older, non-current retail product rather than an officially priced current model. It is not an explicit discontinuation notice. A marketplace price for an old phone may refer to used or refurbished stock, old inventory, missing accessories or an unavailable listing.

Should you buy an Oppo F5 in 2026?

Your situation Practical assessment
You already own one and it works It can still handle basic tasks or serve as an offline camera or media player, provided its battery and essential apps remain usable.
You need a very cheap backup phone Consider it only if the price is very low, the device passes inspection and you do not depend on current security or app support.
You need a primary phone for banking, payments or work Choose a supported device instead; Android 7.1 and uncertain app compatibility are material risks.
You want a selfie camera The 20MP camera and beautification features were central to its 2017 appeal, but they do not replace the image processing of newer phones.
You want modern games, 5G or current charging The F5 is a poor match for those needs. Verify the exact model and network bands before any carrier-dependent purchase.

Judge a used F5 by condition, battery health, network compatibility, essential-app compatibility and price—not by its original camera resolution alone. The 6GB version is worth choosing over the 4GB model only when the price difference is small and the unit is in at least as good a condition. For most buyers, a newer entry-level Android phone or a newer-generation used/refurbished model with documented support, USB-C and a warranty is the safer value. Compare exact models and regional update policies rather than assuming a newer Oppo F-series handset is automatically better in every respect.

Used Oppo F5 inspection checklist

Check before paying

  • Open Settings to confirm the exact model, RAM and storage; distinguish 4GB/32GB, 6GB/32GB and 6GB/64GB configurations.
  • Where applicable, compare the IMEI in Settings with the device label and purchase documentation. Check that the phone is not carrier-locked or blacklisted.
  • Test both SIM slots if the unit has two, plus mobile data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and hotspot.
  • Test the rear fingerprint reader and facial unlock, as well as the front and rear cameras, flash, microphones, earpiece, loudspeaker and vibration motor.
  • Inspect the screen for cracks, dead pixels, discoloration and ghost touches. Check the rear cover for separation or signs of a swollen battery.
  • Connect a charger and check that charging continues without holding the cable at an angle or moving it.
  • Confirm the essential apps you need can be installed and run before you commit.
  • Have the seller remove their screen lock and Google account, then witness a factory reset before completing the sale. A reset does not remove an account lock by itself.

Walk away if

  • The seller refuses a reset, or the phone remains locked to someone else’s account.
  • The battery becomes unusually hot, appears swollen or drains rapidly, and there is no trustworthy repair option.
  • The screen registers phantom touches or the charging port is loose or intermittent.
  • The seller cannot establish the exact variant or regional model and your carrier compatibility depends on it.
  • The price approaches that of a newer supported phone, or the device cannot run your essential applications.
